I've been following the redistribution threads, and I've used the feature successfully a couple of times. Great option, and thanks to all involved!

For reasons of habit (plus: I haven't yet made sense out of all the settings in newer betas of RB-Opt), I use DVD RB v1.26.1 3 click, CCE 2.70, and RB-Opt 0.23. I have one question, though: is it possible (and does it make sense) to

1. enable bitrate redistribution
2. run a prepare fase
3. tweak the ecl in RB-Opt 0.23
4. save settings
5. switch to 3 click (as I would normally do at this stage)
6. save project + close DVD RB
7. Open DVD RB + run a batch encode of the saved project
8. retain the benefits of bitrate distribution?

This would be perfect for me, but I'm wondering if this method would screw up DVD RB's bitrate distribution and/or the tweakings of RB-Opt 0.23?

Anyone? Thanks!

I guess it depends what is being done when you "tweak the ecl".

In this case tweaking (usually) means

1. adjusting bitrates (more to feature, less to extras)
2. changing matrix, depending on the new bitrates
3. changing VBR_Bias and Quality_Prec

1. If you adjust bitrates from extras to feature and they are applied in a way consistent with the original allocation, it should be ok.

2. Changing matrix will probably make the redistribution invalid.

3. Changing VBR_Bias and Quality_Prec should be ok.

OK, thanks. Though, I'm not completely sure what you mean by "in a way consistent with the original allocation"

When the redistribution is done, it allocates space to each segment based upon the result of it's constant Q encode. That is its main purpose. If you then go back and reallocate again (across main feature segments) and don't keep the original allocation ratio (per segment) -- you've essentially overridden the redistribution.

I would not recommend to use such an old version of RB-Opt.
Try the new one: new options can be ignored, and you can use it as you did with 0.23.

OK thanks, both of you. I'll give the newest beta a try, but I'd also like to use the above method.
