Fresh install of Win 10 Pro, new download of RipBot264 (v1.22.0).

At first run of Ripbot: complains over missing Haali Media Splitter so I download and install it.

At second run: starts fine, I add a file for conversion and click OK. In the bottom of the app window progress info flashes by. Last text I see is "Gathering information.." then a more-or-less empty window opens saying "Decoding Error".

I've tried updating to v1.22.1 but the issue persists. What am I doing wrong?

In the file "test.log" the last line is "C:\Temp\RipBot264temp\job1\getinfo.avs: Unknown error occurred"

BTW, thanks for a great app!

Try using an image service as attached photos don't tend to get approved. Sounds like AVISynth might not be installed correctly. If you go the job (click on it) and click Edit > AviSynth > Preview Script does it work or do you get an error (might need to click play to see if you have an error).

Is it possible to have a manual option for the crop settings in the batch mode rather than only auto crop?

Cropping manually in batch mode may be dangerous! You may easily crop to much!

I completely agree, but when I'm working with a batch of file with all the same crop it is nice to have them uniform. Sometimes the auto crop decides to under crop as well.
Currently, I'm working with some old DVDs and I'd rather over crop by 2px then under...trying for a simple 4px on the left and the right.

Another question,
I've been generating time codes for variable frame rate files manually for a while then importing them back into the encoded file afterwards. I've seen at least one other application do this automatically but it isn't as awesome as RipBot. This comes up with cartoons generally older ones, and/or on DVD. Often they are trying to save work by having 1 frame stay for longer or slow frame rate in spots, etc...

A batch to add timecodes looks like:
FOR %%A IN (*.mkv) DO "..\mkvtoolnix\mkvmerge.exe" -o "..\output\%%A" --timecodes "0:%%~dpnA.mkv.avs_timecodes.txt" "%%~A"
AVISynth Script for exporting timecodes from a file looks like:
video0 = FFVideoSource("C:\FileName.mkv", timecodes="C:\FileName.mkv_timecodes.txt")

Don't know if you can export timecodes from the source from MKVMerge directly? Just thought about it for the first time lol.

Create custom script and save it in Tools\AviSynth plugins\Scripts\Custom

CropDVD.avs (left,top,right,bottom)
#Crop
video=Crop(video,2,2,-2,-2)

Do not forget to select this script in batch mode!

And merge dfsc64.reg to the registry.

One minor QoL suggestion: Add "HDR to SDR conversion" option to the New Job dialog. I like to queue up 4k and 1080p rips of the same content. Having to manually switch the option off after RipBot is done processing the 1080p versions limits how many jobs I can set and forget.

That only happen to me when FFMpeg crashed in DE mode, then it missed to encode the last few frames and that makes the audio out of sync. So if you use DE mode, then make sure all the parts have been encoded properly by checking the 1.txt, 2.txt.... in the chunks folder see if the among of encoded frames match the expected input frames.

I had 4 jobs give me this error over the weekend. This is during the muxing at the end. Not sure why because other files of the same audio/video specifications didn't error out.
I am taking EAC3 5.1 (for 3 of the files) and AC3 5.1 and encoding them down to 2.0 OPUS 64bit....just a fast encode since I can't easily have "no-audio" as an option when batching and "copy audio" takes up too much space for some DTS files when I let the computer run for weeks without deleting files. I know that I'm using EAC3 here and not DTS but it is more of a default setting in this case.

byteshare is having the same problem as me (and wishbringer I believe). The muxing fails with that message because the audio job hasn't run (or wasn't successful for some reason) so the audio file doesn't exist. I am also downmixing to 2.0 if that helps.

It is really choppy but I can hear audio...my filters are giving me a slow FPS.

Update: hasn't happened again with the last few encodes. I'd just like an option to not have audio selected by default when running a batch job, but that is because I'm used to having my audio done separately with a different program.

The demuxed *.thd file is fine, but the FFindex file is only 73 byte.

1_audio_English.thd 3.760.647.946
1_audio_English.thd.ffindex 73

With a previous movie I removed the audio from the input mkv file and then manual muxed it afterwards. But is there anyway to fix this ?

Many thanks for the job on ripbot264.

Ripbot264 works fine to recode UHD files keeping HDR.

But there is plan to add UHD Bluray output ?
Because I want to re-create UHD BD from 4K HDR files.

Also Cuda or AMD App will be supported for 4K HEVC encoding ?

I think CloneBD is perhaps what you are looking for. I don't think RipBot264 ever output Blu-ray disc structure (or DVD for that mater) format.

I think you will need some kind of Blu-ray UHD authoring software.

manson.reznor

CloneBD like DVDFab can only output 4K UHD structure from original structure - not from a MKV.

An I want to play recoded discs on any UHD players. I don't want MKV because compatibility on almost all UHD players...

Try to uncheck "Limit to the following filter" in settings and make sure "Use multiple processing threads" is set to 0 if not already.

If that dosnt improve speed, then try activate the Distrubted Encoding (DE) and start a second Client Server (you find the exe in ripboots folder), then it will run 2 instance of the encoder which should help you to max out your CPU.

Are you recompressing audio? Is source audio True-HD?
Atak:
Sorry for the late response. Work has been quite overwhelming lately.
I am not re-compressing. I am using the core audio file as I want to keep the Dolby, DTS, or Atmos coding. See settings below:

That only happen to me when FFMpeg crashed in DE mode, then it missed to encode the last few frames and that makes the audio out of sync. So if you use DE mode, then make sure all the parts have been encoded properly by checking the 1.txt, 2.txt.... in the chunks folder see if the among of encoded frames match the expected input frames.

GZZ:
I must apologize first as I am a noob when it comes to in-depth encoding details. I do not use DE mode (I think this means Denoise). I am able to find the .txt files, but where can I find the "expected input frames" count to see if it matches?

Ahh!! Okay I do use Distributed Encoding (DE). So I looked at the file "DE_log_pass1.txt and found the following

Node Address : 192.168.1.5:1000
Encoded Chunks : 21 of 125 (17%)
Encoded Frames : 30244
Encoding Speed : 9.84 fps
Node Work Time : 00:51:12

Node Address : 192.168.1.5:2000

Node Address : 192.168.1.6:2000

Encoded Chunks : 31 of 125 (25%)
Encoded Frames : 44623
Encoding Speed : 15.88 fps
Node Work Time : 00:46:50
-----------------------------------

So if I add the chunks encoded by each machine I get 125. When looking in the "Chunks" folder, it starts from 1 and continues sequentially to 125. All of the chuck numbered files "###.264" range from 19,699 through 180,271.
So I guess this is good as it does not show any missing chunks.

The problem before the FFMpeg fix, was incomplete chuncks. Lets say you have chunck 4 and it crash midway, then it would only have encoded like 40% of the expected frames in the chunck, but before version 1.22.1 it would assume the chunck was completed and when it merge them all together the audio would go out of sync after this incomplete chunck. I normally just check the complete file and see if audio is in sync for the last part of the movie and if so, then everything should be fine.

Hi Atak,

A substantial update :)

Noticed that you have now included Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2017 x86 & x64 (in the AviSynth folder, under Tools).

So running "Install.cmd" now installs both AviSynth & VC. Does this have to be done manually ??? (mainly referring to a fresh setup)

Also interested in your reply to Viper714's question about demuxing...

Cheers

Guessing it is the codec?

Update: also same error with a MPEG-4 Visual (DIV3) file.
Both worked after encoding them to H.264 RF0 in HandBrake

Side note: moving an encode up 400 positions (not wanting to turn everything else off) is a lot of work. Some better queue management would be the last thing I think RipBot is missing IMO.

Lower value is required for AVC-INTRA mode ! Default CRF20 is not enough for this intermediate format (each frame is a keyframe. Like motion-jpeg).

Adding the ability to manually enter "name" information for video, audio and subtitle tracks within RipBot264 (RB) would be an asset.
This feature could be further enhanced by adding combo boxes with user-definable text strings for track names. This user-definable content should remain intact when RB is updated.

Removing limitations on the quantity of demuxable audio tracks from BD structure sources as well as the quantity of selectable audio tracks to be contained in the output file would be an asset.

Enabling output file names with periods (.) would be an asset.

RB’s “Automatically” setting for video cropping is capable of detecting the difference between pixels with desired video vs black. Could similar capability be implemented for RB’s “new frame” selector?

RB's default pixel height for 720 video in 1.85:1 ratio is "692". The exact height, by my calculations, should be 693.333. I manually change the number to 694, because it seems closer to the correct height. Could you/should you correct this?

1920/1040 = 1,846

Atak_Snajpera

How do you know that original frame is not streched from perfect 1,85:1 to 1920x1040? Most likely they use 1040 instead of 1038 because 1038 is not divisible by 16 (magic number in video world)

For resolution reducing encodes of non-standard crop ratio videos, like the BD vers of the movie "The Hateful Eight" @1920x700, RB doesn't offer a precise ratio-maintaining option. Users have to calculate it. Some might not know how. Especially considering the reduction factor determinate varies from width for most videos to height for others. Examples: 1920x1080 cropped to 1920x1016 requires 1280/1920 x 1016 to calc the height for 1280x678 (1280x677.333) or 1440x1080 cropped to 1436x1064 requires 720/1064 x 1436 to calc the width for 972x720 (971.729x720). In my 1st example, (1920x1016) the width determines the res reduction factor. In my 2nd example, the height determines the res reduction factor. In both examples I maintained the cropped source ratio while reducing the res to 720. RB should have an option for auto step-down to any standard res (1080, 720, 576, 480 etc.) while maintaining precise ratio of cropped source. Like my examples, RB would have to identify whether the width or height determines the reduction factor.

If you implemented this, users wouldn't need to calculate the pixel height or width for any res step-down while maintaining cropped source ratio.

slalom
1st March 2018, 19:11
Reducing a 1080 source in 1.85:1 ratio to 720 gives you 1280/1920 X 1040 = 693.333333
1.85 is not accurate enough for 4 digit pixel calculations.
So, let me understand, you're talking about a difference of 693.3-691.9=1.4 pixels in height?
Who can see that??

On the other hand, comments about audio tracks and subs is a nice feature even if I have to edit the info manually

Hello Atak

about 3-4 days ago I started getting this message, all the time...

when I start ripbot and press start it, it works for first job, just fine
job is finished, it combines chunks, it muxes it together and done

second job starts, it copies video track, it indexes, then it starts preparing chunks, and that message pops up, it pops up ALL the time on second job, never on the first.

I have to click abort, kill the encoding client in task manager, and click start again, and then it works just fine again, until the next (second job) starts, and bam the error happens again.

I use photobucket (http://www.http://photobucket.com/). You can create a FREE account and then upload your images to this repository. After uploading you can copy the "Direct Link" and paste that "link" in your post or you can copy the IMG code and paste directly. So to help explain this a little better, here is a YouTube LINK (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xRXezQkV4w)for a quick tutorial. Running RipBot will disable (revert?) avisynth 2.60 used in BD-RB.
So to be able to use BD-RB a new install of avisynth is needed.
Disabling RipBot autoupdate doesn't help.

Hi Atak,

Um, trying to do some "Married With Children" episodes in batch lots.

Seems to be OK when doing them singularly, but not in batch using DE.

I get errors every time, at the end of the process before muxing, I guess.

This is the Job log (if that helps) :-

Fix available via auto-update.

Hi Atak,

Thanks so much for looking into this, I guess it was a "bug" of some sort.

So I have just finished doing a test after the new update, and I still had the original 13 job queue in place, as I had only done 3 before stopping due to the error.

So I didn't re load a new queue, instead I tested job 5, and it still errored, I had to re load job 1, as I deleted a few files from that when I rar'ed it up to send to you, and it worked to completion.

So I will reload the whole queue again, and it should be fine.

I'm still running Windows Server 2016, haven't quite finalized my Windows 7 situation, yet, but your Image Tool is doing a good job :)

Another thing I would like to mention again (referring to some PM's I sent you), I still don't think the Abort function works as well as it used to, when you could abort from the DE window.

Sure it abort's, after a short "think", but I don't have any luck with the job resuming from where it left off. :(

Anyway, it might work properly under W7.

Cheers

And thanks for your constant support of this great program you've created :)

I can confirm that the Abort not always work as it should. Some time you press Abort and nothing happen, DE window keep running. Killing it in task manager makes the application to abort.

Pressing abort doing initialization (copy Video file in DE window) also dosnt work as it should.

--qp0?

Thank you in advance!

It's --qp 0

But is this not possible with the current version? Instead of --qp 0 you can also use --crf 0 (8 bit encoding) or --crf -12 (10 bit encoding), I believe RipBot calls it "CQ".

I just wanted to write again about the bug that replaces a job if your editing or setting options for a newly demuxed job during the combining/muxing phase. The job that is being muxed will have it's job number and title changed to the job that is being edited. Stopping Ripbot264, editing jobs.list and manually fixing the replaced line with the correct job number and the name brings the job back after starting Ripbot264 back up.

Sorry if this is the wrong place Atak and everyone else, Your program has worked very well for years, thank you for your effort in creating it.

Would you be able to recommend or create an easy to use program that would edit mp4 metadata, specifically adding the cover images to existing files?

Ripbot works for new encodings of course. But I have about 10,000 mp4s I've made that I would like to add this data to. All tv seasons so they would only need the same cover for each season. (I travel where there is no streaming for weeks at a time)

I'd pay good money for a program that can do this :-)

Thanks in advance, Have a good one.

Just in case anyone is asking how am I bringing this data around, Its easy, Run twonky on a tall Intel NUC with 2.5tb internal storage and two tiny 4tb WD drives :-). VLC on tablet/phone for playback.

Normally RipBot 1.22.0 generates me a file job9.avs which contains a line:

video=Import("P:\photo\Scans\Edited sRGB\PhotoDirList.xml.smil.avs").ConvertToYV12(matrix="rec709")

Today there was an auto update and afterwards the generated line is:

video=Import("P:\photo\Scans\Edited sRGB\PhotoDirList.xml.smil.avs")

which causes the encode to fail.

My solution is to disable Auto Update and do a reinstall of RipBot and everything works again.

Hmm, still don't understand why you're a few versions behind...there's been approx 10 auto update's since the initial release of 1.22.0, and you should be running 1.22.2, at least.

If you did "re install" 1.22.0, then ran auto update's, you should have got a LOT, and ended up with the very latest build, 1.22.2. After a re start.

You do realize that it only "look's" for & installs update's every time the program is started ??

Atak needs to post a later build on the 1st page....

To be more precise

1. I am running 1.22.0 (with auto update disabled) as downloaded and everything works.

2. I enable auto update, and restart RipBoot.

3. At start auto update is done, and it shows 1.22.2, I restart 1.22.2

4. I add a new job. Adding works without error.

5. I start encode of job and get error message.

Error is consequence of missing Convert in RipBot generated jobx.avs file.

If you look at screenshot you see BT.709 in color primaries. Normally this field says AviSynth.

Clearly RipBot changes behavior after auto update.

I think I found a bug with the Normalize function if Temp drive is something other then C:

The jobXX_EncodeAudio1.cmd command has the cd line to change in the beginning to change to the tools\ffmpeg\bin directory. Since my Temp is D:, this did not work. Adding C: to the beginning of the script allowed the command to work correctly.
Then running jobXX_MuxFiles.cmd allowed the job to complete.

I've found, as long as the machine running the encoding server can reach the pc hosting, you shouldn't have a problem.

go to file explorer, and type in from the computer that is not working \\computername to make sure you can see the ripbot share that it creates.

could be a username permissions thing too, don't forget that part.

Hiho. I am totally amazed by this Program, especially from the Distributed Encoding Feature. Thanks a lot.
I have some questions for 2 Issues i was unable to solve or find a solution.
1.) I there a way to tell Ripbot to index all files which are included in a Source MKV File? Example. When adding a MKV File in Ripbot with 2 HD Audio Tracks (True-HD or DTS-Master) only the first audio track is indexed. When i am selecting the second audio Track i have to wait until Ripbot has finished to index it before i can change any other value. While doing Batch Encoding this i really annoying. It would be better if Ripbot is doing it directly when it creates the Jobs. Is there a way to enable this?
2.) I was unable to do a x264 Encode with OpenCL Acceleration when using Intel Integrated Graphics. I have 2 Workstation, one with a i7-3770k and one with a i7-4790. On both Ripbot is doing an encoding only if Acceleration is disabled. I tried several different drivers, but none was working. I always get an unknown OpenCl Error. Any Ideas, I also tried to install the Intel OpenCl SDK but it won't work. If this would work, i could use DE Mode on 3 Machines, at the moment i am only using 2 after i installed a GTX 260 i one of my Workstations and that thing is loud :-)

Thanks a lot.

Maybe someone has an Idea.

Another Question.
In DE Mode, would it be possible that every Machine has a different Setting for the OpenCL Acceleration and the Encoding Servers are using the Setting of the Machine they are runnig on? With the actual Ripbot Version the Settings of the Host Machine will be used for every involved Server and overrides the Setting of the local machines running the Encoding Servers. If this would work it would be a Solution for the Intel Graphic Problem.

Intel's iGPU has been always a joke. I guess that iGPU is too old/weak or has bugged driver for this task.

I see there were updates to the core, mkvtoolnix, mvtools, and plugins_JPSDR. Any thing we should notice?

On short clips the autocrop in batch mode is sometimes getting stuck, not sure why.
Update: sent a PM with an example video that fails for me.

Have you ever seen footage encoded as 23.976i,24i,30i and so on?

PAL is either 25i or 50p
NTSC is either 29.97i or 59.94p

Medium seems to be less blurry and without some artefacts

MEDIUM

SLOW (notice artifacts on stairs and on the roof of the black VW Golf. Grass and wall on left is also slightly blurrier)

You wouldn't by chance still have these images? I was trying to help someone with QTGMC and they were saying:
I used QTGMC slow for Wentworth Season 1 and it's come out pretty good and clean. Since mentioning that medium is better than slow, ran a test clip on both slow and medium. Got better size, bitrate, and quality with slow.
Also banding was present in the medium but not slow, could of probably be countered with another filter but would increase the time of encode but who knows

103.7MB Slow

v1.23.0 Changelog
Added: HDR to SDR conversion directly in script (no bottleneck if used with prefetch)
Added: Automatic pre-indexing of all audio streams after demuxing
Added: Two new command line switches to EncodingServer.exe
/x264-opencl-device X and /knlmeanscl-opencl-device X. Where X is a device number
Example: EncodingServer.exe /x264-opencl-device 0 /knlmeanscl-opencl-device 1
Added: support for PRORES as input format.
Fixed: Various bugs reported since last major version

For best multi-threaded performance during HDR to SDR conversion add this line

Does not work. For the second Audio Track an Index File is created, but it has a Size of 1kb. It is first being indexed when selecting the Track in Ripbot.

Hi Atak,

For those of us that use DE all the time, it might be handy if there was a small display that showed what Job # was being processed.

Maybe in the top border of the DE Window...

eg:- Distributed Encoding is currently processing Job # XXX.

Yet, it appears it didn't update me to 1.23.0.

EDIT: Thought I would be crafty and rollback to 1.22.0 and try.... now I am stuck on 1.22.0....

UPDATE: Apparently the solution is to just keep running the updater... eventually it kicks in. I am on 1.23.0 now.

I have an issue with one of my UHD BD rips and the TrueHD/Atmos audio. For whatever reason Ripbot is just not liking it.

http://i.cubeupload.com/CPCM7F.jpg

I have ripped the disc with MakeMKV same way as all of my UHD BD discs and of the thirty or so I have converted this is the only one giving me grief. I even went so far as to re-rip it in the hopes maybe there was an error with the first rip. Any ideas?

EDIT: Spoke too soon. Same thing just happened with Cars 3.

EDIT: Add Coco to the list too.

EDIT: Here is the MediaInfo for Baywatch.

Looks like I ran into another problematic disc. Brawl in Cell Block 99 is not in HDR, but a 10-bit encode (BT.709). Ripbot is reporting that it is HDR (BT.2020) and causing some crazy blown out video as a result. I have gone and turned off the BT.2020 to BT.709 tonemap option manually. I am awaiting the result.

UPDATE: Ripbot stalls if I disable tonemapping. Not too sure what is going on here.

I would like to chime in about this "new" tonemapping option.

I used it for the first time today, and I had a x265 1080p to run thru, and it's default was the BT.2020 to BT.709 setting (the only other option is no tonemapping).

Anyway, with the default settings I let it run thru, and the playback was horrible, the colors & contrast, etc were just awful.

So I ran it thru again with no tonemapping, and there's no picture at all, it's just a black screen with audio :)

Might have to "downgrade" to the previous build...it all worked a treat.

Could "we" have 3 options ??? no tonemapping, BT.2020 & BT.709 (not that I know what these numbers mean)

Test again with latest update.

Yes, I actually thought the new update maybe a fix.

I posted the comments before I got the update, so sorry 'bout that.

Will run this file thru again tomorrow, and will provide you some feedback.

Cheers

Brawl in Cell Block 99 is no longer being identified as HDR after the update. I am encoding now and will report back the results. Thanks Atak for the quick resolution on the issue.
UPDATE: Encode turned out great! Problem solved.

Any idea about my audio issue? Strangely when I tried to break down one of the films to provide a sample, the sample worked. So I tried remuxing the whole film to see if that helped. The whole film remuxed still does not work.
When I look in the test file for the job I see this:

[avisynth @ 0000025e2cd3d100] FFAudioSource: No audio track found
(C:\Temp\RipBot264temp\job2\getinfo.avs, line 4)
C:\Temp\RipBot264temp\job2\getinfo.avs: Unknown error occurred

The audio track is in the directory, but FFAudioSource is not recognizing it, yet MediaInfo correctly recognizes it as a TrueHD/Atmos track. This file plays fine on all of my end devices and PC so I really don't think it is the file itself.

In the interim I have started remuxing the questionable titles without audio and running them through RipBot and remuxing the final product. Works, but a definite pain. Fortunately I don't have many (yet) with the issue. I have completed 52 encodes and have 214 to go with 3 titles not working properly.

Maybe there is something unusual at the beginning or end of that audio track.

I guess I need to do some additional investigation.

Test again with latest update.
Not that I mind the increased updates of the x265, but is there a reason you stopped using only stable builds to update to?

Latest x265 builds have avx-512 support.

A recent update downgraded my mkvtoolnix from 64 bit to 32 and overwrote my mkvtoolnix-gui.ini file, containing my preferences.

Please prevent this.

Well, I'm sorry to report that this movie must have a unique problem, I still have the same problems, after the current update.

Where, using BT2020-BT709, the video is awful, and using No Tone Mapping, I get a black screen.

The only way I knew how to "fix" it, was to run it thru Handbrake, converting the x265 back to x264, with basic audio settings, then afterwards, running it thru Ripbot again, with the default settings, which I think had changed to No Tone Mapping, and the end result was good :)

If you would like me to send you a sample of said movie, please refresh my memory on how to do a small "grab" of the original.
