Thanks for your detailed answer from above !!!
I'll check and try all possibilities and I'll gave you an answer after testing....

Turning back to your #9496 answer from previous page :

it has nothing to do with my question regarding HOW Ripbot succeed in demuxing automatically ".sup files " and How succeed in attach them to .mkv files.
I'm interested in finding out HOW works those softs from tools section and which are they ????? ( just softs for subtitles )

http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/7687/22222dk.jpg

For instance : I've already encoded a file and forgot to attach in the beginning the subtitles..... At the end HOW can I attach subtitles without re-encoded the file again ????

If I wanna make .srt files I need suprip soft ,that's very simple in English , although I have to take every word and examine it and make manual corrections , which is very difficult especially when there are many dialogues , but when there are multi .sup files , in different languages ???? What can I do ???? How to examine and make correction if I don't know those languages ????

That's my issue !! I hope this time I was much clear :D

Thanks for help !!!
=====================================================
Regarding your #9501 answer from above :

Where is that code box ??? I wanna introduce your's CODEs there ,but I cannot find it :(
I hope that is somewhere within tools section :D

I just mean Ripbot and not MeGui .

Sorry,
I have never used subtitles, so i don't have any experience there.

subtitles don't want to be in bottom black bar by default.
They ruine picture area with themselves by default.

Just a suggestion...
Would it be possible to include the PgcDemux of 288KB in the tools of the RipBot?
The PgcDemux really stabilizes, while joining the VOB files, ending any asynchrony. He works from the IFO file.
He does the same thing as DVD Shrink > Re-author, which is also very good. Cited by soneca.

http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/7771/pgcdemux.jpg

Normally I would just check demux video stream and audio stream.
Is it the same compared to demuxing the .vob other than that the .vob(s) may contain additional subtitle(s)?

I know that , but I wonder if I change some parameters there , they will have any influence ????

For instance ,If I change TRELLIS QUANT. by choosing " 2 - ENHANCED , in the lower window appears modifications as I've done. --trellis 2
But just modifying --b-pyramid none into --b-pyramid strict in the same lower window , the effect will be active ???

I have figured it myself. Not sure.
Sometimes u change from gui something to same it allready was then some custom options from command box will be deleted.

Do test encode, and look with mediainfo what settings where use for encoded file.

O yes i did test, all settings will be forced, that i used.

Hello,

I am using you software to rip a video of a BluRay disk on the disk the title of the file is 00015. I then use RipBot264 to create a DivX Plus HD Video from this and then I renamed the file to its proper name but in TVersity on xbox the name is showing as 00015 still is this title data store in the MKV file? Does anyone know if there is any software out there to edit this title?

VLC has a metadata edit, I recall having trouble getting it to save a lot of the time though...

try winamp, I believe it will do it as well

as suggested, MKVmerge does have an option to set the track name, which is probably where the 00015 is set...but it will require remuxing the video to change it.

NO , it won't require remuxing at all :D Therefore it is profitable .

You can do it yourself by updating within tool section of Ripbot whatever you want .
That's why this software is so versatile :D

RipBot264 will make broken x264.mp4 file that can not be decoded by youtube or demuxed or remuxed with none of available demuxers or remuxers in mediacoder.

That mp4 i muxed in mkvmerge GUI with flac audio.
It gives me error there:

frames) references to other frames. The timecodes for such frames will be out-of-order,
and the 'CTTS' atom is needed for getting the timecodes right. As it is missing the timecodes for
this track might be wrong. You should watch the resulting file and make sure that it looks like you expected it to.

The file was decoded fine in Vimeo and video players.

Problem seems to be broken muxing in MediaCoder, it can't join video(copy) and audio(copy) to mp4 with none of the muxers.
None of the video or audio formats encoded by different applications, not just only RipBot264 mp4 files.

get rid of your dumb PS3 and get a real bluray player =)

other than that...I don't think there are any. I've asked a few times in a few places as well. I can tell you that DVDfab's bluray program has some type of circumvention for it. it requires you to rip the bluray and then I think you have to burn the full things as well. so no authoring / remuxing / encoding / etc.

Haha, my wife would not appreciate me buying a new BD player simply because I can't play some Cinavia encodes :)

I've got DVDFab, but yeah...I am less than inclined to go through their BD copy feature. I just want my movies digitally stored on my server so I can stream them. I have faith that eventually Slysoft and/or DVDFab will have a solution. This is the first copy protection that has actually worked for the industry, but it always gets cracked.

Try this : mkvMerge Gui

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Other-VIDEO-Tools/MKVToolnix.shtml

Try YAMB which uses mp4box : the same tool used by RipBot for Muxing / Tagging.

What happens if decoded audio to .wav and then you encode with AC3? Lossy codec should "damage" any watermarks in audio.

Not certainly. Some watermarking technologies are so persistent, they stay recognizable if you encode with transparent quality again, they vanish only when you encode with a quality so low that the loss hurts.

Yeah, my understanding is that currently you cannot "encode out" cinavia from the audio track, or if you somehow manage to the audio track will be so damaged that it won't be worth it

just something on the cinavia stuff: I've read that people have cammed (used a video camera to record stuff in theaters) movies and the cinavia survives this
it's not a simple watermark in the audio track, it's actually embedded sound[s] (although supposedly inaudible) within the track

so simple encoding and such will most likely not be effective.
and for anyone like me this encoding/audio quality loss would be unacceptable.

I am not 100% certain that on every instance I've experienced so far (Social Network, The Losers, and The Tourist) has been encoded with a demux to .WAV, but I am pretty sure that's how it has been done because my standard is an AVCHD with 5.1 AC3.

I still don't completely understand Cinavia, but I have seen something about cam dubs being affected as well which seems very weird. Clearly, there is something that will either have to be stripped out or embedded to spoof the protection that exists in PS3s and other affected players. Why? Because my encodes for the iPad play just fine!

I guess it's not a HUGE deal since I have my HTPC server connected to my TV, but it is sorta annoying. Here's hoping DVDFab and Slysoft will race to fix this. So far, my hat's off to Cinavia for finding an anti-copy solution.

Hello all,
This is my first time posting on this forum and in this thread and I'd like to just start off by saying that I love this program and thank you very much for it :thanks:

I've used this program (RipBot264 v1.16.5) quite a few times but have run into a bit of a snag lately and I can't seem to really figure out why. Lemme explain...

I have several movies with multiple audio streams and subtitle streams and I basically want to reduce the file sizes and eliminate the streams I don't need. Easy enough, right? Well, I'll load in a video, select the audio track I want and the subtitle track I want using the "selectable subtitles" tab. After I encode the video I have hardcoded subs and selectable subs. I have made sure under the "properties" tab that "permanent subtitles" says "do not use subtitles". Basically, I can't figure out why I end up with harcoded subs when if I played the file before the encode no hardcoded subs were present.

Here is the mediainfo about one of the movies I mean before the encode...

I am using K-Lite codec pack.
The problem is that DirectVobSub also load automatically during encode/preview if the subtitles in the .mkv is set to show by default.

Always glad to be of an assistance. :)

I use the K-Lite Standard Pack as well. I'm not entirely sure what you mean about DirectVobSub issue but that's ok. The codec pack I've always just installed it and left it at whatever the default settings were. I've tried to learn as much as I can by reading and experimenting and this Ripbot tool is great for some of us less technical guys, like me!

I long since just used the default settings of Ripbot 4.0 profile but I've tried to educate myself of the other settings. I've often seen this with a lot of encodes but maybe you have a answer, I have not found a good answer I could understand yet ... does the number of R or B frames have any bearing on the quality of the encode and are these the same as "ReFrames" I see listed on a mediainfo file? I see by default Ripbot has these set to 3 but I see lot's of encodes with 4 and 5 and sometimes higher. My question also applies to the "Trellis Quant" and "Adaptive B-Frames". Would setting these to "Enhanced" increase the quality of a encode as well. I am assuming making any of these settings higher will have no noticeable effect on a encode but I am not sure.

I envy all you guys who understand off of this. I find it all very confusing

Thanks for all the help so far. Don't worry.. I won't be flooding the thread with lot's of questions since my main one was already answered :thanks:

buffalofloyd check these out:
http://mewiki.project357.com/wiki/X264_Settings#ref
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_compression_picture_types
I-Frames are essentially a complete 'picture'
where as B and P Frames reference data from previous/subsequent frames avoiding un-needed redundancy, thus gaining better quality within less space
R-Frames are referenced frames for the b/p frames (this is the ref value I linked above)
if you set such stuff too high...it can cause issues with some media players, and for any scanning (fast forward, rewind) bluray players like to have an I-Frame every second

R-Frames are referenced frames for the b/p frames (this is the ref value I linked above)
if you set such stuff too high...it can cause issues with some media players, and for any scanning (fast forward, rewind) bluray players like to have an I-Frame every second

Wow, this all makes my head hurt ;) Thanks for the links as I will definitely try and read through some of that stuff and try to understand it. I think however leaving Ripbot at the default settings might be the way to go for me since I clearly don't understand all the technical details of x264. I have had good results at default settings so far so why fix something that isn't broke? It seems a lot of the settings can (should?) be dependent on what the source is that your trying to encode. I never do anime but I would gather some setting might want or need to be tweaked to get optimum results. In any case, I really do love this program.

The only suggestion I would make is a drag and drop feature... not really a big deal at all but just a friendly suggestion. Thanks!

A Microsoft .NET Framework is no Windows XP update, but a separate installation.

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6) should be downward compatible with previous .NET versions 2 and 3, I believe...

I would like to seek help regarding usage of QTGMC in RipBot's avs script.
If I add QTGMC() in a normal script, it works fine.
But if I add it in RipBot's Picture Properties window, I keep getting "Invalid arguments to function "QTGMC()".

I figure it's probably due to my script but how should I fix it?

Hi ATAK !!!!

I've recently installed ALL softs - I formated - and some players do not work properly :(
Can you give me/us a list or links to similar softs you use ???? I know you use 64 bit softs...
I presume all those who use win 7 on 64 bits would be interested in it ...
A friend of mine advised me to install few softs on 32 bits , and , maybe this is the reason that all players are working bad :(

Thanks for help !!!

Also i do have the latest version installed and i am using windows 7, x64

Either be consequent and use "video=Function(video, args)" everywhere, and finish with "return video".

Or be consequent and avoid variables whereever the implicit variable "last" is sufficient.

But either way, learn what the implicit variable "last" means. It is not trivial, but vital nevertheless.

Just a simple question , maybe this time smb will answer me ..... :p

To get source / encode screens one must open up script.avs in one tab .
In the second tab he must select :
ffvideosource("C:\path\to\encode.mkv")
FFInfo(cfrtime=false,vfrtime=false)

Well , WHERE can I find ffvideosource ???

I've searced in ALL logs and jobs but I found just "Directshowsource" and not "FFVideosource" :sly:

If Ripbot do NOT produce "FFVideosource" parameter , how can I use "Directshowsource" in getting those source/encode screens ???

I also have installed within avysinth pluggin ffmpegsource-2.15-mt.7z ..

Who can help me ????

AFAIK, RipBot doesn't use ffmsindex.
What you are trying to achieve can be done using other GUI such as MeGUI.
Use the file indexer in MeGUI to ffmsindex the video, the script should use FFVideoSource automatically IIRC.

Running RibBot264 v1.16.5. Major props for this program. I've only been using this since v1.16.4, but I've ripped over 200 blu-rays with it so far. Quality is excellent and I've been very pleased with the results.

I've tried digging for a solution to my Demuxing Error problem for more then a day. Essentially when I try to rip Star Trek The Original Series, season 2, disc 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, and season 3, disc 1 (I haven't tried past disc 1 so far), I receive a Demuxing Error. All of season 1 ripped fine and season 2 disc 2 and 5 work fine.

I'm running Win7/64 on two different machines with the same results. I've posted the contents of the Demuxlong.txt, test.log, and mkvinfo.txt in hopes that they will lead to any ideas that could solve my issue. Thanks much.

LigH
5th May 2011, 08:33
@ Lighto:

Sharpen() does not recover details. It increases local contrasts in a small neighborhood, but it does that on wanted content as much as on unwanted noise. It is a "stupid" filter with no sense for the content.

Furthermore, applied after a resizer with some overshooting, it makes artefacts related to the Gibbs phenomenon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibbs_phenomenon) just worse.

And they are again worsened by DCT based video encoding (ringing artefacts in MPEG-1/2/4-ASP blocks), hurting the compressibility ratio. I am not sure how much it hurts H.264 too, as this uses another integer transform instead of DCT.

But after all, post-sharpening is just an illusion. So never apply too much of it. And if you must, then try to use smarter functions, like SeeSaw, or chose your resizer already with more efforts.

ResampleHQ kernel visualizations (http://svn.int64.org/viewvc/int64/resamplehq/doc/kernels.html) - use a HTML 5 capable browser with Canvas support.

Ripbot encodes but there is on output file on the destination. Did a search on the drive... nothing... nowhere.
Is this a common problem?

It's common for me because I always forget to check if my drive has enough space. So the encode fails due to a lack of space to put the processed .264 stream =P

check where your temp folder resides, see if the drive has enough space to do the encode.

otherwise....read the job log, see where it failed

However, I ran into a slight problem when I got a Dune media player...subtitles officially need to be either plain text, or SSA/ASS. I've also read that Dune will play external idx/sub in a 480p resolution. Are there any settings within the Ripbot tools that let me convert 1080p Subs to 480p? Or would it be easier to just create/download SRT files?

you can drop an subtitle file into tsmuxer and 'demux' it, this will result in a sup file
or, alternately, if you select subtitles from a bluray (.sup) I believe ripbot will OCR / Convert them to .srt for you - I'm not sure on that though

I have a question about using RipBot which i've been using for all my backups to my media box. I just got Close Encounters of the Third Kind: 30th Anniversary Ultimate Edition and ran into one problem. Since the Ultimate Edition has all 3 version on the disk how are you able to rip each version? I'm really only intrested in the extended version where you see the inside of the ship at the end. I went back after finishing my 1st rip and noticed that it was the original version that I had ripped, so I went back to under stream and noticed that the next 2 files were only 3.9 and 3.3 Gig long and that the very 1st file was over 9 Gigs in size. There's no way this could be right or am i looking at this the wrong way.

change the playlist
you should get a selection when ripbot first analyzes the bluray
this will have the audio / video / subtitle tracks and all that
at the top should be the playlist option. there should be 1 (or more) playlists for each edition / cut
if you can't tell which or need any further info grab bdinfo and scan the disc

Let me start by saying I did not read all 480 pages, though I did search.

I have been a handbrake user for years. Just started using RipBot here and there recently and think the output quality is better then I get with handbrake using the same options. So I think I'm going to make RipBot a permanent solution.

Are there any plans for a forced subs feature/option like in Handbrake (if not, are there any subtitle guides specific to RipBot)? Is there anyway to speed up the intial video indexing in RipBot (this initial step is taking 10+mins whether I rip directly from my dvd or rip the dvd to hd first which adds another 5+mins to the process)? I've got 1k+ dvds to rip and 100+ blu-rays, so any time saved is huge as I'm already having to go through and re-do all the movies I've already done with Handbrake as I've noticed some have audio drift and other are just massively out of sync.

As of the indexing part, I do not know of any way to speed it up.
The only solution I see would be to rip the DVDs to the hard disk in batches first, then open it with RipBot. Start the first job then add more jobs to RipBot.

Hard to tell without knowing how much you have zoomed in with the screen shot but to me that looks like an interlaced source that has been resized or an interlaced source that has been resized before being de-interlaced.

Either:
1) use a deinterlacer before encoding progressively
2) encode with MBAFF (interlaced)

One thing I have learned... if your source is interlaced, you should run it through DGIndex to see what's what... is it TFF or BFF... is it Hybrid with mostly film or Hybrid mostly interlaced... too many things to try and guess at when a good indexing will tell you all you need to know.

Anyone have a suggestion to this problem? I like ripbot and I also like BD-Rebuilder. The problem is that BD-Rebuilder recommends using one version of FFDshow and Ripbot requires a newer version of FFdshow. Is there a way that I can install two version of FFdshow to satisfy both programs? Please explain how. Thanks!

I don't believe so, as installing one version of ffdshow will simply overwrite whatever version you have installed. Probably the only way around this is if you are running an x64 PC where you could install one version of ffdshow (x64) and a separate version (x32). I assume Ripbot uses the x32 version, not sure about BD Rebuilder

I had some problems with the BD Rebuilder using the two latest versions of ffdshow.
The r3785 (http://www.videohelp.com/download/ffdshow_rev3785_20110323_clsid.exe) is working well with RipBot and BD Rebuilder.

If ffdshow works with RipBot264, it should also work with BD-Rebuilder even though it's not the recommended version.

Disregarding my personal subtitle problems with RipBot I think I've run into my first real problem.

I am trying to rip my dvd of District 9. No matter what I've tried so far, audio is extremely out of sync. If I change the audio delay I can get it in sync, but it ends up drifting so doesn't stay in sync through the whole movie. If I rip the movie with Handbrake this problem doesn't occur. If I check for the audio delay Handbrake is using, and then use that same audio delay in RipBot the audio is out of sync.

What is framerate detected by ripbot264? 29.97 , 23.976 or 25fps? Compare video duration reported by ripbot with handbreak.

Hi :)

I like to use RipBot264 but I can't. I have a "Demuxing error".

I read a lot of previous pages but can't find a sollution.
So, I need some help.

My PC is new with Win7 X64. Media Player 12. I have split my HDD to 2 partitions C:\ & F:\ RipBot installed in F:
I also have installed AviSynth , Haali Media Spliter , ffdshow and NetFramwork.

I Uninstall all codec packs and reinstalled. Same error.

My steps was:

Add - video... - biggestfile.m2ts -
a new window opens with "BluRay structure - Select streams". There I can't see anything in chapters or video:

"Νο chapters, no audio, no subtitles"

If I press Ok - I have a Demuxing error

I don't know what you me to include for your reference so below are some files:

BluRay structure info:

Atak,

I am running into a problem again with "Vicky Christina Barcelona" where RipBot gets stuck on "Please wait...initializing." Back in an earlier version of RipBot you released an update to handle the weird 3.1 audio that some discs, like this one, have, and I am wondering if that is the problem again.

I can see in processes that "Aften.exe" is running, but it doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas?

Besides the explanation of the Atak... You must create in "Encoder Setttings"

What is framerate detected by ripbot264? 29.97 , 23.976 or 25fps? Compare video duration reported by ripbot with handbreak.

ripbot sees it as 29.97, if I don't touch anything and just watch the preview in ripbot before ripping the movie the audio is already way out of sync (if I check the audio tracks in ripbot it says audio delay is 39881ms). Like I said in my earlier post, I can mess with the audio delay to get the audio in sync. But when you watch the movie it drifts so ends up out of sync the longer you watch the movie.

For movies that are 29.97 and have horrible interlace lines I choose reverse telecine in ripbot and leave decimate restore to 23.976. It's worked so far on all the other movies. Doing that the audio is still way off. I've also tried switching to mkv and just doing a stream copy of the audio and that is also out of sync probably because ripbot is seeing that 39881ms delay.

Ripping the movie with ripbot gets me the same length as in handbrake according to mediainfo, 1h 52mn.

Hi guys,

I'm sorry to answer to this old message but as a developer I need to bring some explanations:

I've been using Ripbot 1.16.3 for a while now and have switched to 1.16.4. I have noticed that MP4box isn't addressing files over 2Gb.

Supporting or not large files rather depends on the runtime than the development itself.

That being said, all runtimes support large files except some official mingw/mingw32 ones which rely on the microsoft visual 6 (1998) C runtime. You can actually ask for using newer runtimes at build time but the support is incomplete. The solution is to use a unofficial mingw or to patch some mingw (resp. mingw32) headers to directly call the right functions. We've discussed this among developers and concluded we would wait for mingw to provide some support to a runtime newer than 1998 (which is in the roadmap).

On Windows, cygwin and microsoft free tools (http://gpac.wp.institut-telecom.fr/2011/04/18/command-line-gpac-compiling-on-windows-x86-using-free-microsoft-visual-c/) work with no restriction.

I hope it is clearer now.

Solving or avoiding asynchrony when you encode from DVD files:
Process from an original DVD... The encoding of DVD files is still a reality.

I wait that my written English is correct, and doesn't come for confuse them.
When joining the VOB files have two methods that do the same thing: PgcDemux and "DVD Shrink".
First, you must make a copy (decrypt) of the DVD for the HD only the main movie and without compression,
or 100% of his size using the DVDFab or AnyDVD.
The "DVD Shrink" also removes the protection of DVD, but he is out of date for some things.
Not always a difference of length of the audio will be a delay.
Always consider the whole files. A partial copy or a cutting doesn't serve as a parameter.

Follow the reading...Use PgcDemux (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PgcDemux) to join the VOB files.
The PgcDemux doesn't solve problems of interlaced,
but when you join the VOB files with your application, certainly solves the problem of delay.
The PgcDemux really stabilizes, while joining the VOB files, ending any asynchrony. He works from the IFO file.

http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/7771/pgcdemux.jpg

Single process... DVD Shrink (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DVD_Shrink), It does the same thing as the PgcDemux.
1º) Open DVD Shrink -> Edit -> Preferences -> Output Files -> uncheck the last two items
- Split VOB files into 1GB size chunks (recommended)
- Logical remapping of enabled streams.
http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/6888/dvdshrink.jpg

2º) Then click the tab Re-author
In "DVD Browser" locate the DVD folder with VOB files.
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/4715/dvdshrink1.jpg

3º) Going for the directory, open the folder with the DVD files.

4º) You will visualize the VOB files totalized into a single file -> click 2x on the file.

5º) Double click "Title 1" to create the DVD file structure
The file is totaled transported for the window of the side.

6º) In the Compression Settings tab -> Video -> change for No Compression

7º) As soon as it opens the window "Backup DVD" -> in the tab "Target Device" ->
in "Select backup target " -> change or stay as "Hard Disk Folder"
Choose the destination to save the new copy... below, disable "Create VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS subfolders"
Remembering that while entering in the RipBot264 in "Properties", if closed "Deinterlace" and the "Decimate",
is a sign that everything is OK, and will not occur asynchrony.

When a software encoder accepts only ISO images...
File tab -> click Backup...
Once you open the window DVD Backup -> Target Device tab -> under Select backup target: leave as "ISO Image File"
Choose the destination to save the ISO image.

Other methods to create ISO image, DVD folders and files...

1. tsMuxeR (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/tsMuxeR)
-> Use "Add" for the VOB first, and "Join" for the remainder -> and select "Demux" -> Start demuxing
If you only have a MPEG-2 file, also make the tsMuxeR demuxing before. Will be extracted MPV and AC3 files.
continues below...

2. DVDAuthorGUI (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DVDAuthorgui)
-> add title -> MPV video file -> AC3 audio file -> File -> select "Create ISO after Authoring" -> author DVD -> Name the new folder -> Save
You finished of reassemble the ISO image, folders and files from DVD!

Other support tools:DelayCut (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/delaycut) and Mpg2Cut2 (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Mpg2Cut2)
However, if you continue having problems with audio gives a chance for the DelayCut. Make a "demux" of the audio before.
The DVDAuthorGUI is also ideal to create the DVD files structure.
I hope I have myself made understanding in the explanation of everything, and that come on be useful.

You can also do the encoding of the DVD without audio, joining the audio later:
"Demux" of everything with the PgcDemux, and AC3 audio without conversion.

Joining the audio files in containers:
MP4 use the YAMB (http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=1495596&postcount=9535)
MKV use the MKVmerge
AVCHD use the tsMuxer

Extract DVD subtitles: SubRip (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Subrip) or Subtitle Edit (http://code.google.com/p/subtitleedit/downloads/list) No installer - portable version.

I've been having a strange issue for the last three months or so: as soon as Ripbot begins muxing the file at the end of the encoding process, Windows crashes, often without so much as a blue screen, Windows 7, SP1, 64 bit. The result is a corrupt 200-600mb mkv file: clearly the crash happens as soon as muxing begins.

I've tried three versions of Ripbot v1.16.3, v1.16.4, and v1.16.5, the same result. And after this first crash Windows begins to crash repeatedly, whether or not Ripbot is running. The first crash after a Windows reinstall every single time happens at the muxing stage in Ripbot. I've tried everything I could think of: Windows reinstalls, driver updates & rollbacks, using different HDDs for processing files in Ripbot, RAM & CPU tests etc. etc. Nothing has worked. So haven't been able to encode anything for a long time now, and been going crazy with the crashes.

Atak, is there any way I can find a workaround this if nothing works? Is there a way to process the file in Ripbot and then use Mkvmerge outside ripbot to mux audio-video streams? Mkvmerge works perfectly fine whenever I mux or demux audio-video streams, so this issue is not related to Mkvtoolnix.

Any ideas?

A way to skip the muxing stage would be to go to "job*_MuxFiles.cmd" and delete the commands inside or to delete the cmd itself.
It can be found in the "*:\Temp\RipBot264temp\job*" folder.

Anyone ever have an issue where you select a playlist but Ripbot keeps reverting back to a different playlist? I have run into this issue with some BluRay TV Show discs. For example, a disc will have three episodes. I will go ahead and create three jobs (each time choosing a different playlist). However, I have run into issues where even though I choose a different playlist each time Ripbot actually ends up using the same playlist. Doesn't seem to happen all the time, but can be frustrating since the times it has happened I didn't realize until after the jobs were done (so I end up with 3 encodes of the same playlist instead of 3 separate encodes).

I'm making a AVCHD file. I'm using everything that Ripbot asks for including the lastest updates to all codecs needed for Ripbot to work. I'm also using Windows .Net Framework 4.0 or 4.1. The newest one as well. The audio stays the same since your choose 2-Pass and video I change to 720P (True) as which hadn't ever been an issue before. No, I haven't changed any other settings. I am making the mkv to fit either a DVDR or a DVDR DL if mkv is bigger than a DL I don't mess with it. Yes, this is on a real blurayu player as well. It's a standalone $ony bluray player. Yes, it's been screwing up all my movies for quite sometime now now.

2 years back, i backed up my copy of The dark knight using an older version of ripbot (not sure what version it was 2 years ago) well here is some basic meta data of that encoded file

Format : Matroska
File size : 11.1 GiB

as you can see, my overall bit rate is 10.5 Mbps and lower it shows a bit rate of 9 633 Kbps

well i recently am re-backing up all of my movies with DTS master audio. (i made the mistake and did a AC3 rip back when i back this up) so today i just did a encode of the dark knight but this is what i get?

as you can see the file size is HALF the size, my overall bitrate is 5,152 Kbps and other bit rate shows 4 410 Kbps.
the picture quality imo on my HDTV playing over my HTPC running XBMC (windows) 10.1 stable build is poor. bit rate of 4,410 Kbps for a 1080P imo is to low and i would like to have it around 10-12,000Kbps

I would like to add that i notice a quality hit and that is why i am writing. videos with dark scenes show allot more blocky pixelation. its getting to me. i do like the smaller file sizes BUT i'm not happy with the quality.
is there a way that i can choose an average bitrate to use?

how would i go about changing this? thanks :)

The lower the CQ the higher the video bitrate but in the end you will not be able to determine what the final size of the movie will be. I suggest using the 2-pass mode and you can select the final output size of the video or the video bit rate individually. Personally I encode all my BD movies that are 1080p with a video bit rate of 8192 kbps and I think they look great. Good luck!

No.
You must make sure the track you want is the one selected so you dont botch it. :)

I wouldn't do that unless you need a specific size.
use the CQ values. specifying size / bitrate like that will have some negative effects:
some movies will require more / less bitrate
your encodes will be longer since it has to run 2 passes

the only advantage is if you need a specific size and a potential placebo from unnecessary bits =P

just find a CQ value that's good / works for you.
try 20. if the files are too big / seem to have to high of a bitrate, go with 22.

not that I know how to fix his issue
but...I've burned 100's of AVCHD's without that.
personally I'd suggest leaving it off for such low bitrate stuff
it will (at least with my player) give you issues with fast forward / rewinding though.
otherwise you don't notice.

won't hurt to try it though.

you can swap out the x264 exes with newer builds though
just make sure you name them properly and get the 8bit ones

Um yes, yes it is a codec! A CLI Codec for sure, but a codec none the less. :)

Well, as "Radio Eriwan" uses to reply: "Depends."

A "codec" is "a coder or a decoder". In the case of x264, an (en)coder only.

As an independent executable, many people prefer to call it "encoder" specifically, to separate it from codec libraries which are used by video tools or even installed in operating systems, but not executable on their own. But that's a matter of habit.

And: Substituting x264 versions / revisions may usually work. Until the set of command line options and default values is changed remarkably again.

So if e.g. "a VfW codec" shall not be called "codec" because you prefer "codec" meaning the theoretical standard over the practical implementation, how would you call them now, all of a sudden, after decades of habit using this term already?

Well, I am used to see a "codec" as specific software implementation (see also: the DivX and the Xvid VfW/ICM codecs, or the LAME ACM codec), and ITU-T H.261, H.263, H.264, G.723 etc. as theoretical algorithms or specifications, yet without implementation.

The english Wikipedia confirms my opinion:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codec
... A codec (the program) should not be confused with a coding or compression format or standard – a format is a document (the standard), a way of storing data, while a codec is a program (an implementation) which can read or write such files. In practice "codec" is sometimes used loosely to refer to formats, however.

pacaveli211
1st June 2011, 14:18
so you're saying anything that can read and write a file is a codec?
or something that can encode is a codec?
so surcode DTS is a codec?
so DTS Master Audio Suite is a codec?
nope...these things are just software
so tsMuxeR is a codec? nope, it's just muxing software

@ pacaveli211:

It is not me all alone who says that (or something similar, as the file access is not part of the codec, which is rather only "the kernel of the conversion process")...

If it is persistent in Wikipedia, it is possibly an opinion of a majority. Hopefully. Yet it is no definition of the term. But which person would be rightfully able and responsible to define a term like "codec"?

So, the Wikipedia suggests to use "the codec" for "the software implementation of a standard", and "the standard" for a document, specification, algorithm.

Examples:

MPEG4 Visuals (ISO/IEC 14496 Part 2) is a standard, independent of its specific implementation as a codec. It does not process video. It is only written on paper or in a text file. Passive.

DivX is a specific MPEG4 SP/ASP software codec; "Dr.DivX" is an encoding application containing the DivX 6 codec; "DivX 6 Pro" is a "VfW codec" DLL containing the DivX 6 codec, to be used by VfW compatible video applications.

Xvid is a specific MPEG4 SP/ASP software codec; Koepi's Xvid VfW codec contains the Xvid codec in a VfW codec framework; ffmpeg contains the Xvid codec in a CLI application.

Toshiba TC35273 is a specific MPEG4 SP@L1 hardware codec chip, to be used by moblie devices like cellphones.

The "DTS Master Audio Suite" is an application, containing the "DTS-HD Master Audio" codec as audio processing routine.

RipBot264 is a GUI (Graphical User Interface) calling specific encoder applications which contain different codecs as encoding routines.

Yikes, that was close. I was almost off-topic.

suggestions:
- dont re-analyze when adding multiple titles from the same disc (blu-ray)
- can you add ac3 support for mp4 files?
- text doesn't scale well with changes in windows 7 text size, as set through display properties
- add support for default audio formats per container/audio encoder

hope it helps

I just wanted to let you know that when selecting the Dolby TrueHD stream and selecting Wav as the output converts the bit-depth to 16bit even if the source was 24bit. I haven't tried to Flac but, a fix for the Wav bit-depth would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

thanks for testing that for me, im just hopping to have it set in the gui or just have the truehd stream de-multiplex option, so i can do the conversion myself. the goal is to convert my 24bit truehd discs down to dts 1536 with 24bit depth. i just have a lot to do. it's cumbersome to do them all manually.

this is not a waste of time for someone that appreciates sound. truehd unfortunately is not an acceptable option for me to keep compatibility around the house and i'd like to have the audio be as close to the source as i can. dts-1536 supports a 24bit depth and truehd's core is only 16bit.

if the -down16 switch is removed or a truehd stream option is added i wont have to demux once with ripbot then again with eac3to for the truehd stream. crossing my fingers.

Moreover, IIRC the lossy formats like AC3 or DTS do not have any real bit-depth as such anymore -> the input signal has been transformed from time to frequency domain.
Besides, one can encode lossless audio to 640kbps AC3 which is considered just as good as 1536kbps DTS with free encoder (Aften) save a bit of space and lots of money at the same time! :p

You still have to represent frequency with some number of bits. More bits = higher frequency resolution.

no, someone who appreciates sound, like myself, wouldn't be messing with stuff, wasting time, and ruining quality.

what do you have that's not compatible with at least the ac3 core in truehd? are you never going to upgrade your equipment? NEVER? might as well keep the truehd...let it use the core for now...and then when you do upgrade you'll have stuff that can play the full truehd.

another, less optimal, solution is to encode the truehd to a full DTS-HD MA track

you just have the 4.0 from previous versions
when you extract the ripbot stuff it just adds/replaces. it doesn't delete any old stuff. if you download ripbot from the first page and look you'll see the bluray 4.0 is no longer there. so you can delete it if you want. it's just a text file...doesn't really matter either way

I have a 4.1 profile I use for BD25 stuff. I can give you my command line for it if you want to make yours. if you're using CQ values or locking size (unless your size lock is like 20GB+) it's not gonna help you any

have you tools considered the fact that while you're using those extra bits for a negligible 24bit vs 16 bit that you're degrading the quality because it could use those bits to provide better over-all sound quality? (this only applies to CBR encodes such as the discussed DTS 1536)

that being said if you are transcoding to Flac/wav or something, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to keep the 24bit
there might've been a reason why it needed to be switched down to 16 though

24 bit audio = placebo. If humans can't hear noise in 16 bit sound so why would you waste space for 24 bit????

Con:

It is useful for a very high dynamic = difference between the loudest and the quietest scene.

Linear integer samples would have a good resolution for loud scenes, but e.g. in classical music, there can be very quiet scenes as well, which will then have only very few bits of resolution left.

Floating point based audio formats don't have any issue here, they can scale the exponent and still have a mantissa with good resolution.

So the waste of space is rather the combination of lossless storage and linear integer representation.

You will probably have a better chance to hear a lack of resolution in quiet scenes with lossless 16 bit PCM integer samples, than to hear masked frequency parts in lossily coded Dolby Digital with floating point frequency parameters (good psycho-acoustic model assumed).

Even though the overall chance is low in an average furnished living room, anyway... ;)

I'm having two issues.

1. In 1.16.5, the progress of the rip is no longer shown. In 1.16.4 and earlier it would show the percentage progress at the bottom. Now it doesn't.

2. In many rips, the ripping process runs twice. First, it extracts the audio/video and then it starts over, this time only extracting the audio (for a second time). What's causing this? Is there a way to prevent it from ripping twice?

Ripbot detects 26 some minutes for video and 20 minutes for audio
http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/8483/capture3ea.jpg

how can this be corected?

NiteShdw
11th June 2011, 07:03
is it extracting audio and then encoding it?
or maybe extracting the track and then extracting the core?
I don't know what you choose when you're adding a job

During the ripping stage, it'll go from 0% to 100%, then start right back over at 0% and run again. It appears to me that it's eac3to that's actually doing the two rips. I'm just curious if it's because of a certain audio type in the original disc or something.

It doesn't happen on every disc, but it happens on a lot.

@NiteShdw
After decoding Ripbot264 checks eac3to log. If ArcSoft Decoder Error is detected then it repeats whole proccess but this time without decoding whole DTS-MA to lossless format (.wav/.flac). Eac3to will be set to extract only DTS-core (lossy DTS 1,5Mbps). I think this better than famous can't open "../video.mkv" error ;)

Hi, I've a very simple question about ripbot. if possibile to add as second encoder, the "cri-spurs coder".
It's a exe with command line like x264 and use spurs engine from toshiba and accept direct show files. License is freeware for personal use.

Have you tested it personally? Does it accept .avs scripts? Have you compared quality vs x264? Why do you need this?

darkio
11th June 2011, 13:16
Ok, I've testet it with my card firecoderblu from thomson. It's work very very well, great quality using upscaling (DVD source) to hdtv res 1280x720P and 1440x1080I. The image is more detailed, clear, more sharp and no have blur effect, tipic using normal upscale.

I've tried tmpgenc work 5 but the quality is very poor. Tried also aviutl to with spursengine plugin. Great results, but plugin is outdated, must be improved.
I need for me and everyone that use spursengine for personal use. Cli command line in boring to use in 2011.
Using hardware encoderis valid alternative to cpu (about 50 fps to upscale from 720x576 to 1280x720).
I've no tested yet with .avs script, i think to try later.

First of all, I would like to thank you Atak_Snajpera for such an excellent tool. It is a simple and elegant solution that I have found quite useful.

FYI, the version of MPC that is shipping with RipBot264 has a buffer overflow vulnerability that dates back to 2007 and as it is no longer supported, probably won't get fixed.

http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2007-4939

Have you considered replacing MPC with MPC-HC?

Cri Spurscoder accept .avs script. This is awesome ! It's possibile to add it in ripbot264 like x264 command line, please ?

True shrink blu ray 50 to DVD9 or DVD5 in very short time with hardware encoder and good tools with great quality.

Cri SpursCoder is free for personal use. The difference with paid version are: no audio encoding, no container mux, RAW H264 ES only.

Resizing option is not remembered by Ripbot anymore. Earlier versions would use the same resizing settings for all subsequent videos, now it has to be changed manually for each and every one. Not very user-friendly when adding dozens of videos, and especially since I wasted several days of encoding time due to this, and found out on vacation that all my new videos on my PSP were unusable

WRONG
use interlaced profile when you want to OUTPUT interlaced content. if your source is interlaced you'll most likely want to deinterlace and decimate. (and use the progressive output)

there might be a may to make a custom AVS script, so it always resizes. someone here may be able to tell you how to do so. I can't though

I got a 7.1 DTS-MA track. What's the best option here for targeting AAC 5.1: Checking or unchecking 5.1 downmix? What's the difference here?

Also, the DTS-MA is labeled "strange setup", but seems to sound ok as 5.1 or lossy DTS core.

Another suggestion: it seems that when the source is selected, say a blu-ray disc, that the first item in the "playlist" dropdown of the "select sstream" dialog is automatically analyzed. It would be helpful to let the user select the playlist entry and then analyze it in the case that the first entry is not the desired one.

Both methods are ok. If you check 5.1 downmix then eac3to will reduce number of channels. Otherwise ripbot264 will do the same via avisynth script.

1a is FIRST for me ans 2b is the second one ; you're right ,the second one is from about the middle , but not quite ( 30-40 %).... You gave food for thought with those + or - delays....

Question:

How to get rid of 00039.m2ts and 00023.m2ts?

Problem:

RipBot's crop dialog does only search inside 00039.m2ts as it comes first. But this is only a company logo with an aspect ratio that is different from the main movie. So no chance to crop here.

I have another program that requires that FFDshow 64 bit version, Which IS installed on my computer.

So unless one can install BOTH 32 bit AND 64 bit versions of FFDshow and be able to select what to use, then I will have problems.

Unless there is a way to get ribot264 to work with the 64 bit version of FFDshow??????

I am currently using v1.16.5

Sorry Preludee, I forgot to mention that bit. Yes, Ripbot needs the 32bit version of ffdshow installed. It will still use the x64 version of x264 on a 64bit operating system, however. You can have both the 32 and 64bit versions of ffshow installed side by side, so keep the 64bit for media playback and install the 32bit version for Ripbot.

How do you install both side by side & tell FFDShow 32bit to be used only by ripbot and not other programs that I have that require the 64 bit version?

---

Update:

I ran & installed the latest version of FFDshow 32bit... Now RipBot264 is working... However the other 2 programs that I use for work no longer function & say I don't have the 64bit version of FFDshow installed.

Anyone know how to get both to the 32bit and 64bit of FFDshow to work together so that both my other programs and Ripbot264 will work?

When will Ribot264 be fixed so it will work with the 64bit version of FFDshow?? 64bit may be slower in some cases... but that isn't why I am using 64bit version. It is because the other programs I use for work require the 64bit version of FFDshow.

Thanks
