I found the getinfo.avs file.

video=DirectShowSource("L:\temp\RipBot264temp\job1\video.mkv",audio=false).ConvertToYV12()
LoadPlugin("C:\Documents and Settings\Any User Admin\My Documents\EXEs\ripbot 1.14.5\tools\AviSynth plugins\NicAudio\NicAudio.dll")
audio=RaWavSource("L:\temp\RipBot264temp\job1\audio.1.thd.wav",1)
AudioDub(video,audio)
WriteFile("L:\temp\RipBot264temp\job1\info.txt","Framecount")
WriteFile("L:\temp\RipBot264temp\job1\info.txt","Framerate")
WriteFile("L:\temp\RipBot264temp\job1\info.txt","AudioRate")
WriteFile("L:\temp\RipBot264temp\job1\info.txt","AudioChannels")
WriteFile("L:\temp\RipBot264temp\job1\info.txt","AudioLength")
WriteFile("L:\temp\RipBot264temp\job1\info.txt","Width")
WriteFile("L:\temp\RipBot264temp\job1\info.txt","Height ")
Trim(0,-1)

Also, I was also able to load both video and audio file in MPC and play. However, the sound diminished after 10 minutes or so and then went silent.

you put the codes before your text script you paste, and the other codes at the end of text script you have paste.

ex:

[ c o d e ] you put the codes before your text script you paste, and the other codes at the end of text script you have paste.
[ / c o d e ]

of you prefer

[ c o d e ]
you put the codes before your text script you paste, and the other codes at the end of text script you have paste.
[ / c o d e ]

You can paste the code directly with the "#" icon on your message icons... it will paste the code and "PASTE" your code between two codes. i explain you to more understand how it work.

I just wanted to express my gratitude for this simple, working, beautiful piece of software. This is perfectly in the middle between mucking around with batch scripts and tormenting myself to using some noob freeware PROADVANCEDSOFTVIDEOENCODERFORBLACKBERRY that doesn't even know how to preserve aspect ratio.

I may have overlooked something, but since I upgraded Ripbot from version 1.14.3 to 1.14.5, I am unable to get rid of the initial component warning (ffdshow not installed when it is.) I tried to put CheckRequiredSoftware=0 in RipBot264.ini, but it doesn't work. Anyone know if this parameter has changed?

hi!
i love this program and i used it for all my blu-ray collection.
I'd like to try it wit my DVD collection.

What i'd like to do is moving all my DVD on harddisk with subtitles, no extra or menu.
Whitch is the best setting to encode a DVD movie to a file, for example "avi" or "blu-ray" structure?
Can i upscaling the movie?
Can i also mantain all subtitles?

i need a little help with DVD, with blu-ray all ok & fine, but i never try with DVD.
Hope in some help! :)
thx!!

Upscaling does not give more details! Just crop black borders and use 720x..... resolution.

Can i also mantain all subtitles?
You will have to use external tool to demux them . Once you have IDX/SUB files you can add them in 'Selectable Subtitle' section.

Is there a way to add multiple separate input files without it demuxing each one as it goes?

I'd like to be able to add five jobs without it demuxing audio streams for each one, so I can leave, come back, and have a bunch of finished encodes. Right now, to add five files it takes about two minutes.

Thanks kind sir!

Hi Guys

Hoping I could get some advice. I've been trying to compress some of my recorded tv files (TS files) into mkv files for playback on a popcorn hour device.

I've been using the High 4.0 profile with 2pass at around 3300kbs.

The file creation goes fine but when playing back the file I seem to get de-interlacing problems on any rapid moving scenes which the source file doesn't display when played back.

Generally hdtv in Australia is 1080i so that's what the majority of my source files will be. Is there a setting I need to change to resolve the picture quality/de-interlacing problems?

This is the mediainfo for one of my recorded files

Hello Atak,

Thank you for all of your hard work. It is certainly appreciated. Ripbot264 is an amazing piece of programming and I am grateful for it.

For some reason I can no longer successfully load an HDV file into Ripbot. On both of my Windows 7 64 bit machines Ripbot hangs at "Please Wait...Gathering Information". This happens on both machines no matter the size or length of the HDV file.

The HDV MPEG-2 is 1440 X 1080i from a Sony HDR-HC1 captured using Pinnacle Studio 12. I'm using v1.14.5 at the present time.

I've reinstalled all of the external programs with the same results on both machines. Is this a known problem or is the problem on my end?

Thank you for your time,

I also have english windows 7 x64 and I have no problems with .m2t files.

I think i've found an part of the trouble.

Windows 7 use is own filtering DirectShow. I've download an patch file for using custom ffdshow filter.

I've use the Filter Tweaker, and avs2avi.exe not crashed yet.

Its called "Win7DSFilterTweaker". Normally when import mkv file or bluray direct m2ts uncrypted, ripbot ffdshow never open in system tray. I've make the settings with the tweaker and ripbot have imported and ffdshow filter open.

Here where i found my research.

Please read notice before use:
Changing which filters get used requires modifications to some Registry keys, including adjusting access permissions. This can be quite difficult (and dangerous) for novice users.

Atak and 8ternity,

I've tried changing the default MPEG-2 direct show filters using the Filter Tweaker. In the 32 bit column I have a choice of 3 (ffdshow was the default). No changes I made would allow me to load an HDV file into Ripbot. In the 64 bit column there was only 1 choice that that was Microsoft's MPEG-2 decoder. I tried clicking it off and then loading it into Ripbot but still no luck.

I'm hopeful someone with Windows 7 64 bit and the latest ripbot will try to load the file and let me know if the problem is with Windows 7 64 bit, Ripbot or my two systems. Here's the link to the 2 second HDV file:

Atak et al,

Seems like the more recent bluray titles i've been using with Ripbot the audio downconversion is either not working or I'm doing something wrong (while nothing different.) The goal (for me) is to have the Dolby or DTS (downconverted) from the HD version audio. Instead I get PCM as the default audio stream. I can fix this by running the .m2ts through TSMuxer first and downconverting the audio, however I know this feature used to work (for me) in Ripbot directly.

Please advise and thanks!

Hi,

It's normal than you have only one option in the 64bit edition because ripbot264 required 32bit ffdshow, you can install ffdshow 64bit for playing purpose only if you really want, but i personnally would like to eleminate less possiblity for bugs or trouble and try to find the problem by after.

Atak, is there a reason why the custom resolution/aspect ratio buttons adjust in increments of 4 pixels instead of 2?

I find that a fair few aspect ratio's aren't exactly 2.35:1, 2.40:1 etc. and require manually overriding to maintain the proper proportion to the source. For example, I've just done an encode where the cropping required -128 pixels from the top and bottom. 1080-256=824, and 824/1.5=549.33 (for 1080p>720p). Using the custom aspect ratio buttons, I was only able to select 1280x548 or 1280x552 when I needed 1280x550 to maintain the closest proportion to the source. Obviously I can manually adjust the AVS script which I always do, but just wondered if it was possible to change it so that the custom aspect ratio buttons increase/decrease in 2's instead of 4's?

Thanks.

Since I upgrade Ripbot264 from v.1.4.3 to v1.4.4 (and now v.1.4.5), I noticed something strange : mkv files I get after transcoding from BD, are really smaller than before. Of course my settings remain the same ( Hign 4.0 HD BluRay profile with CQ mode and 22 CRF which are default settings). For example, I just created a 1080 mkv of "Get Smart", which is a 1hour and a 47 minutes movie whith 5.1 ac3 copied stream audio. The m2ts original file was 17.4 GB (13.5 GB for vc1 video, which is 17.6 Mbps) and the resulting mkv file is only 5.12 GB (bitrate : 6662 kbps with 5889 kbps for video). Isn't it stange ? Of course I know that 1 pass x264 transcoding gives different results based on what happen on screen. But still. Before v1.4.4, my transcoded videos were all between 9 and 15 GB. And now, they're more between 5 and 10 GB.

Does anyone fell the same ?

That'll be the work of mbtree which was introduced to x264 as a default from revision 1200. Version 1.14.3 was the last Ripbot to use a non-mbtree x264 revision. I personally don't use mbtree (yet, at least) and it can be turned off by manually adding --no-mbtree anywhere in the script/box of the x264 command line at the bottom of the video options section.

On the other hand, many will tell you that your new smaller file sizes are actually the same quality as your previously larger file sizes because of mbtree. Perceptively, anyway.

Is that true ? Same quality for half the size... What's the point of view of everybody ? If I stay with mbtree turned on, should I choose CRF 20 ? or 22 is still good ?

If you are not happy with quality so lower CRF value. Otherwise you should be happy with smaller size. Also remember that static movies with wide aspect ratios (2:35:1 and 2:40:1) are easier to compress due to static black borders (no texture , no movement) Also clean movies without noise are also easier to compress!

I will change step as you wish.

That's weird. I am using 1.14.5 as well and just set up two jobs for Transformers 2 and Land of the Lost which generated MKV files of 32.5 GB and 20.6 GB, respectively. I, too, am using the default High 4.0 profile but didn't see "mbtree" in any of the syntax.

Very curious...

EDIT: Wait, I think I misread that. You mean your end result files are MKV files in CQ mode that used to be larger? I thought you were talking about the Temp files...sorry!

If you don't have Arcsoft DTS-HD decoder installed then you get DTS-core (1,5Mbps)
If you have above decoder installed then you get DTS-MA decompressed to .wav or .flac
Decompressed audio can be converted to AC3 640 kbps (the same quality as DTS 1,5Mbps but 2.35 times smaller size)

Quick question, I just installed a fresh copy of Win 7 64-bit. I am starting from scratch and not sure I'm missing something.

Like you said when I tried to rip DTS-HD movies before it would come up with Copy Stream, and I'd get a core DTS track (which is what I wanted). However, I just tried to load up "Serenity" that has a DTS-HD track but I am not getting the Copy Stream option. Did I miss re-installing something? This is with the newest version of Ripbot along with all the required software (AVIsynth, FFDshow, Mastroska, and Java), and nothing else.

Just rename them x264_32.exe and x264_64.exe respectively, and replace those in the x264 folder inside RipBot's tools folder.

Atak,

Just wondering if there was a special reason for the Sharpen(0.2) instruction in the AVS scripts? Is it part of the resizing command or does it actually add/increase sharpness to the video in some way? Thanks.

I add gentle sharpening in order to regain fine details after resizing. Without sharpening image is too soft for me. Especially on PSP. Also 1080 -> 720 looks better.

Hey, great program but 2 very important features missing:

- Batch mode (encode several files with the same encoding settings).

- An option to preserve the original audio track in the new file (only re-encoding the video).

Any plans to implement these? Thanks.

Has anyone had this issue when burning subtitles into a avchd (.mts file) that it would never finish the first initialization?

Is there any chance for getting MvDegrain (1,2,3) added into RipBot, maybe with a very slow denoiser warning?

I have quite a few movies where the Film denoiser doesn't get rid of enough noise, where as the Anime turns the whole picture in to mush.

@stryker412 - Even though it has been mentioned over and over in this thread, it is not apparent what is going on with the audio while using the app. Ripbot looks to see if the Arcsoft DTS decoder is present on your system. If so, Ripbot uses it to decompress the audio without extracting the core, which is required for 'direct copy'. If the decoder is not present, you DO get core extraction and the 'direct copy' option. Conversely, TrueHD streams will ALWAYS be decompressed, and hence, no 'direct copy' option.

I understand, and I did read through numerous threads on here stating that fact. That's why I posted, I do not have Arcsoft installed so I'm puzzled as to why I'm NOT getting the core DTS option. I was able to pull the core track using TSmuxer and use it with ripbot just fine. Just not sure why ripbot didn't give me the option.

I've started getting a system error from avs2avi.exe via. Ripbot that says 'The program can't start because avutil-49.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem'. It crops up everytime I edit the properties of a job and if I click ok it continues as normal. But it also crops up at start of each x264 pass which means I can't set an encode going and leave it as it won't continue unless I ok past the error message.

EDIT: Nevermind, I sorted it. Was playing around with some AVS filters and looks like I added a plugin that it didn't like.

Sorry tormento, typo's by me. I missed out the second x's. You need to rename them x264_x32.exe and x264_x64.exe respectively. They definitely work in the latest version of RipBot as I've used them myself. You'll only run into an error if you disable mbtree by adding --no-mbtree into your x264 script. If you do this, then you need to manually change the b-pyramid command from --b-pyramid to --b-pyramid normal.

It is not a matter of renaming but of command line, I suppose. I have tweaked my ripbot configuration a lot and the resulting command line for x264_x64 is

--level 4.1 --aud --nal-hrd --vbv-bufsize 25000 --vbv-maxrate 25000 --filter 0,0 --ref 3 --bframes 3 --b-adapt 2 --b-pyramid --direct auto --subme 7 --aq-mode 1 --trellis 2 --partitions all --me umh

First, thanks for this great program, i've been using it a lot lately and find it very user friendly and well written.

I have a strange problem with ripbot, some DVD's won't fully load if they are already ripped into a folder. I load the first VOB (VTS_XX_X.VOB) of the main movie and it seems to only load part of the movie or only one VOB because on the duration it says about 20 minutes. However, if i burn those same files into a DVD image file, mount the image to a drive with daemon tools and then load the exact same VOB, i get the full movie loaded. I compared all the file sizes of the files on the mounted image and the files ripped to the folder and they are exactly the same. Why would ripbot not load the full movie when it's in a folder but do so when it's mounted on a virtual drive?

Your post prompted me to do a some troubleshooting and i think i figured out the cause of the problem. The full path was C:\MyTemp\[DVD]\LITCHE\VIDEO_TS. After some trial and error it looks like the reason why it wouldn't load the whole movie was because of the [DVD] folder name. I renamed it to DVD and the whole movie loaded. Looks like ripbot doesn't like the [ ] characters, can this be fixed? Thanks.

Great app. I'm using it to create AVCHD dvds from BluRay titles to play in PS3.

Obviously these things take alot of time to do. The app has a shutdown when finished option, but this is not always suitable. Is there any way (maybe in a future version) that a process can be paused or have it's current state saved so that next time the PC is booted up, it can carry on?

Cheers.

I too noticed that the movie sizes are a lot smaller now with the newer version of RipBot.

Question for the re-encoding gurus, is there any loss in quality if I re-process a 2 pass 8.1gb movie using the CF18 option?

I want to shrink down all the 1080p movies I encoded but without losing any quality, is that possible?

Thanks

nurbs
9th November 2009, 17:42
There is always a loss of quality when you reencode, except when you encode in lossless mode (QP 0), but there is no point in doing that since the file will be much bigger than the source.

However it is definitely possible to reencode without a perceptible loss of quality. I guess at CRF 18 it will be very difficult to tell the difference, if that's possible at all. You can probably go higher, do some thest..

I think the CRF values were altered a bit with the introduction of mbtree, so I believe CRF 16 is now considered the new 18, 20 the new 22 and so forth. Hopefully one of the x264 experts can chip in and confirm anyway. In any case, CRF18 without mbtree is perceptively transparent enough for my liking, so I would feel safe in saying that it's a secure value to use for retaining as much quality as possible at (usually :)) sane file sizes.

hi, i need just a little help!

I just want to do a little trailer, just for creativity! :)

This is what i do:

- i take the main movie from the blu-ray disc (that i buy) trasformers 2 (about 36gb with only the main movie and my audio language)
- imported into pinnacle studio HD 14
(i know it's no not the better...but i have only this program, that i buy it about 1 week ago for my holiday movie)
- i make all the footage, cut/paste etc...so my trailer was completed
- exported it in a "m2ts" file, 1920x1080i, codec H.264, frame rate 25, level 4.1, 24000kbps
(i cannot find a way to export it at 1080p....only mpeg-2 has the option of 1080p, but the result is horrible!
while the 1080i i made is pretty good!!)

now i 'd like to knwo how i can improve the video quality using RipBot264!!

i have to use:

- CQ (18,22, or which is better) or 2-pass with 24000kbps (or whitch settings? )
- i just set up the upscaling to 1080p

anyway, someone can suggest me PLS how i can improve the video quality?
thx a lot if someone'll be so nice to give me a hand!

Ok so CQ(22 or lower) work better then 2-pass, thx.

You say i'd export to something lossless (for example HuffYUV)...i didnt find it under pinnacle option!
where i have to search??

Or is better i buy a better software then pinnacle studio?

The only things i have to do with this "short" clip, is only to cut some scenes (from frame to frame), and then save it.

Pinnacle have a easy interface, but the output is not full-hd...if know it before i buy it  ! i thought pinnacle 14 HD = HD!

Here's how I do it:
1) select the audio you want in "profile"
2) click "selectable subtitles" and add the subtitle you want & it will convert it to subtitle_1.sup
3) click done button
4) go to working folder, for me it's "C:\Temp\RipBot264temp\job1"
5) click "job1_EncodeAudio.cmd" to convert audio. The converted audio will show up in "C:\Temp\RipBot264temp\audio.ac3"

@BobZhome: Great suggestion, I never thought of the .cmd file... unfortunately that route would yield me a .ts or .m2ts file while I wanted an .mkv.
As you all know, MKVmerge does not support .sup or .sub subtitles and OCR is a major drag... hence my suggestion to have RipBot handle the audio and video and just have it merge already prepared video.

Will these come in next updates?

- savable custom resolutions in select down menu
- savable custom color tweak in select down menu

having to change the resolution is really taking extra time when doing many little videos since it's not possible to just type in the desire resolution in the box but have to click on the arrow buttons. So I think that should be a high priority in next update. The color tweak isn't that important but will be cool if possible to implement it too.

I second the above, would be really handy, I'm in the midst of modifying some earlier created h.264 and AC3 stream filled Avi's that won't play on my PS3 (Avi's with AC3 are not supported) and to do that I have to:

A real pain, Direct Stream copy would be great as would a button to execute the audio encoding option you have selected independantly (StaxRip does this, It's the only thing I use it for!)

v1.14.4
Added: RipBot264 will force ffdshow as prefferd Xvid and Divx 4/5 decoder in Windows 7
Changed: Avi files will be decoded via DirectShowSource instead of OpenDMLSource (Reason: OpenDMLSource does not work well with Windows 7 RTM)
Changed: Avs files wiil be imported via Import() instead of DirectShowSource
Changed: Lossless audio is automatically selected instead of first audio stream in Demuxing window
Changed: Bitmap based suptitles are also allowed for none-standard resolutions (MKV)
Fixed: Blu-ray subtitles were not resized if user changed resolution after adding subtitles
Fixed: FLAC will be decoded by madFLAC instead of BassAudio due to weird problems on Windows 7 RTM (Avs script hangs if bassaudio.dll is loaded)
Fixed: temporary files will not be automatically stored on non-NTFS drives (external usb drive for example)
Fixed: 24fps subtitles were automatically converted to 23.976fps due to missing /fps:keep option
Updated: x264 r1251M, NicAudio 2.0.4, MediaInfo 0.7.21, Yadif 1.6, BDSup2Sub 3.9.7

After incrementally upgrading from v1.14.3 to v1.14.4 and later, I have had major issues with RipBot failing to load certain *.avi containers. All I'm greeted with is a MPC window with the message...

DirectShowSource i can't determine the frame rate of the video, you must use the "fps" parameter. (C:\Temp\Ripbot264temp\job1\getinfo.avs, line 2)

After going through all the rigmarole of reinstalling AviSynth/Haali Splitter/FFDShow etc, I finally found the issue was all to do with the highlighted "fix" above.

So I guess my question is, am I stuck with using v1.14.3 or earlier, as all the later editions fail to load AVIs? I am running Vista 64, Incidentally.

Thanks

As you all know, MKVmerge does not support .sup or .sub subtitles and OCR is a major drag... hence my suggestion to have RipBot handle the audio and video and just have it merge already prepared video.

MKV's can handle SUB/IDX just fine. You just have to import the IDX though.

For Atak_Snajpera:
My videos have AC3 audio and these are recorded with my video camera and have 448 Kbps (CBR) audio, but with RipBot I can convert to AAC only up to 320 kbps (ABR).
I want to preserve de audio at 448 Kbps.
You said: "320kbps is max what CT-AAC supports"
If so ... why you don't add Nero AAC as a second option ? Both CT-AAC and Nero AAC are freeware.
With Nero AAC other softwares can convert AC3 to AAC at 448 Kbpbs, 512 Kbps, 640 Kbps, and over ... while RipBot can convert with CT-AAC only up to 320 Kbps.
You can add Nero AAC Codec for audio (can encode to AAC over 320 kbps, while CT-AAC cannot)
Link for Nero AAC Codec test:
Two images shows for Nero AAC that the best audio quality, combined with a low size in MB, is at 700-800 kbps, when encoding Blu-ray with a 24bit 48kHz soundtrack ... to AAC:

Same problem. Here's an image showing the X-Men 3 DTS soundtrack in the right window and the options I have in the left window. I have all the required DTS libraries in the Tools\ax\ArcSoft DTS Decoder\ directory but they don't help. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled but still only get AC3 as the default audio option. X-Men only gives me AAC so there's something up with the newer version of RipBOT

^ Yes, I have an idea, and it's a good one. :)

Because you have the Arcsoft decoder installed, you cannot direct stream copy. You wind up with the uncompressed audio instead. You then have the option of transcoding to the available audio formats presented.

If you remove that decoder from your system, you will then see the option to extract the core DTS file (copy stream).

I've asked Atak if he would be so kind to give us the option to extract the core AC3/DTS with a little check mark box when the source TrueHD and DTS-MA are present . I think it has fallen on deaf ears though.

This audio question gets raised over and over and leads to much confusion. Other than that, it's a great app.

This is my final answer:
DTSMA -> wav -> AC 640kbps = DTS core 1,5 MBps in terms of quality.

Now tell me why would use DTS if you could get the same quality with smaller AC3??? Blind tests made by professional do not lie. Just use google.

ok so to achieve this, we would NOT select flac on the first screen, then when we get to the second screen select the 640kb option? I assume the "DTSMA -> wav" step is done automatically after the first screen, right?

It does not matter if you have FLAC selected or not because FLAC is lossless (Free Lossless Audio Codec)

Because many here, including myself, are audio purists and just want to keep either the core AC3 or the core DTS (depending on which is present on disc) to preserve that which was encoded directly by the studio without alteration. Increasingly, many are encoding with constant quality, not constant size, so any increase in audio size would not detract from the video size and quality.

Furthermore, it would eliminate a ton of audio confusion in this thread. I'm pretty sure all that would be required is to add an option for the --core argument to the eac3to command line. The option could be presented in the streams dialog box as an "extract core audio" checkbox, which would cover both TrueHD and DTS-MA.

Lastly, I understand your argument that AC3 quality with its smaller bitrate is equivalent to DTS, but even when only TrueHD is available on disc, the only way to obtain an AC3 track is to encode it, when it's already available straight from the disc and the way the producers intended it!

Otherwise, a fantastic app and my "go to" encoder.

Audio purist or not I don't care. I only care if I hear difference or not. There are also people encoding for DVD. It means that they get better video quality due to saved audio bits. Therefore I won't change my concept. By the way true purists do not encode video and audio at all. They just watch movies from original disks.

kikker
15th November 2009, 22:09
Yes, you're right. I guess I'm not that much of a purist then. :)

But, if the option were present, it wouldn't change anything for those who are encoding with constant size, to a DVD as you mention. They would still be able to encode to AC3 if a DTS-MA track were present.

BTW, what's the rationale for not extracting core AC3 then? That would be a wonderful addition in my humble opinion!! I can always stay away from the Arcsoft decoder to get core DTS, but I can't do anything about getting that core AC3 in Ripbot.

Ripbot264 must be as simple as possible. This option is useless. End of story. Ripbot264 does what makes sense not what user wants. DTS 1,5 Mbps DOES NOT MAKE SENSE AT ALL. Waste of space that's all. Did you know that lossless FLAC can be as small as lossy DTS 1,5 Mbps?

Let's say user wants AC3 448 kbps or AC3 384 kbps. What options will be better in your opinion?
1) lossy core AC3 640 kbps -> AC3 xxx kbps
or
2) Lossless TrueHD -> lossless .wav -> AC3 xxx kbps

or what would you choose
CD -> MP3 128 kbps
or
MP3 320 kbps -> MP3 128 kbps

Point taken. However, one of two solutions is possible.

1. Extract both TrueHD (as a WAV) and core AC3 automatically. Then, the option of 'copy core AC3 audio stream' would be available in the audio portion of the encoder settings, or the core AC3 could be manually browsed to. If the user wanted a smaller AC3 file, then the WAV could be used to transcode as it's now done.

2. Have 'core AC3 track' as a checkbox in the streams dialog. If that box is selected, only 'copy stream' is available in the audio settings.

I would think #1 would be easier and more straightforward though.

Is it really so hard for you guys to understand what Atak_Snajpera meant? When somebody says he can't use flac on his blu-ray player and aften is no option because it only supports 5.1 then it's only natural to assume that you are actually encoding something blu-ray players normally can play, formats allowed on a blu-ray or avchd disc, and not a mkv file. If you expect proper help then don't be so vague about what you are trying to to.

It looks like I need some help here.

I got a DVD (PAL) that's in 4:3 but the actual display size of the movie is 2.35.

So I open it up in RipBot264 and crop (Top 126,Left 4,Bottom 126,Right 2) and resize to 'SD-PAL 720x576 [2,35:1]' and then start the encode.

When all is done and I open the file in MPC, the movie is 4:3 and the actual display size is 1.78.

What am I doing wrong?

Nothing. Everything is ok.

Kagain

Well, shouldn't the display AR be 2.35 as in the source, not 1.78.

If I first crop and encode the same DVD in megui, After that use RipBot264 to resize to 'SD-PAL 720x576 [2,35:1]' then RipBot264 is adding the correct borders so the Display AR is actually 2.35.

Sorry if I'm not very good at explaining things.

If you have some spare time, just take any 4:3 DVD and crop (Top 126,Left 4,Bottom 126,Right 2) and resize to 'SD-PAL 720x576 [2,35:1]' and encode.

no. If aspect ratio is higher than 16:9 (1:85,2:35,2:40) then SD 720x480 and 720x576 is encoded as 16:9 with added borders.

Example 720x480 with movie aspect ratio 2:35:1

Oh, the problem seems to be that the movie was still encoded as 4:3.
So I had to do the following:

1. Crop and resize
2. Copy the resize script line.
3. Click 'OK' then 'Done'
4. Change from 4:3 to 16:9 in the 'job.ini' file in the temp directory.
5. Paste the resize script line I copied before changing the 'job.ini' file
6. encode

Now the AR is correct

The point of a target file size is it doesn't get oversized even by 1 Mb so it will fit a medium without problems (maybe the MegUI bitrate calculator undersizes a little @ 4480 Mb, it gets more like around 4 695 000 000 bytes instead of 4 700 000 000 bytes). Yeah maybe it will fit DVD5 with UDF only but I can re-rip it, no problem, I'll try 4475 Mb that should give enough margin for error.

Why can't you add a batch converter, it's become a pain to add files one by one.
and, can you add a 32kb/s setting for audio for psp conversions? It would allow me to cut down on filesize for my videos. Videos I have downloaded from some site had their audio at 32kb/s and the audio size was only about 5mb for 24 minutes.

Pretty please add those features, if it's not too much of a bother! :3

Yes, and I second that. If we have an option to say, "do the rest of the files in the folder just like this one", that would be great.

Right now, I am converting recorded TV shows for my PSP and iPhone, and they are exactly the same (recorded as DivX at 640 x 362). Ripbot is really fast and when I am converting it down to 480 x 272 with BilinearResize with sharpening (around 400 fps). However, adding each recording takes rather long though (around 30s - 1m to add and change the script).

Thank you in advance.

If you need to use something with batch encoding, FFCoder is pretty darn good. And it's efficient. I've been testing it out recently and it's been converting whole directories of videos to and ipod compatible format with no problems.

Don't get me wrong, I love Ripbot too, but if you want batch, try FFCoder.

Of course, the other reason is that RipBot is fast - very very fast :). Below is a typical conversion single pass CQ22, converting from 640 x 362 DivX -> 480 x 272 MP4.

Hi Atak,

I was encoding a recent Mad Men on an i7 920 @ 3.5 GHz. The hyperthreading (8 virtual cores) helps a lot. Ripbot pushes each hyperthreaded core to an average utilization of around 80% (i.e. 160% per physical core!). With hyperthreading off, I get about 97% average of each core.

1.14.5 with x64 enabled gives me slightly better performance and I typically see around 390-450 fps with bitrates around 250 - 450kbps. The only other non-standard setting I use when transcoding to a lower resolution (about 10% performance gain and slightly lower bitrate) is to use BilinearResize (in this case bilinear subsampling) but still with sharpening of 0.2 to better preserve the high contrast transitions of the original resolution. Bilinear subsampling tends to produces no "ringing" and hence less high frequency data to be preserved in DCT, possibly leading to slightly higher fps and lower bit rates. There is some loss of detail though, but the effect is quite subtle and typically in low contrast, out of focus backgrounds.

:thanks: very much for Ripbot!

Atak_Snajpera

24 bit = placebo
Average joe does not have equipment/wires and special room to notice difference. Besides FLAC compresses 16bit alot better than 24bit. Also some so called 24 bit are just 16bit+8 empty bit.

I've had a small problem with the job list disappearing on a regular basis. I spend hours loading .m2ts files to encode overnight and then all of a sudden, everything's gone.

I suspect the reason for this is the ini file that says the temporary files should be stored on the drive with the most free space. Which is logical, except that after loading a couple of 20-30GB files to the queue, the drive with the most space changes. Ripbot then starts using the other drive which doesn't have any files loaded.

Could I please suggest that the joblist file is stored on a drive/partition that is fixed and not dependant on freespace?

Other than that, Ripbot is a truly fantastic program Atak, and I thank you for continuing to develop it.

Would be handy!!

I would also request a flag in the .INI for:
1) Default Audio Profile
2) A new "Multi File Select" option that would allow multiple files to be selected as sources, with default video and audio profiles used to load each "Multi File Select" into the Task list!!

Otherwise, pretty awesome Transcoder ;)

Good job Atak, and thanks.

I have a question. During first pass cpu usage is not more than 45% with an intel e2160 and low fps. In second pass it is even lower at 15% and even lower fps. Trying with one pass quality cpu usage is spiking >90%. Encoding audio (enc_aacplus) uses almost 100%. Using HDConverttoX i always get 100% in first and second pass. I tried using the same x264 build with no luck. Can you explain?

PS. i found out that when pc goes to screen saver cpu usage of x264 is dropping to < 10%.

Finally, if it is possible to add AAC-LC 192Kbps abr or show me the way. THNX again

Thanks for this great program!
I have some questions (hope these were not asked earlier, at least I haven't found it). First, maybe it's possible to make a possibility to pause a job? For instance, I'm trying to make a 2-pass 1080p video, started in the morning, and now, in evening, I see that job will be done after 19 hours...
Maybe, if it's not possible to make that in the middle of second-pass decoding, it is possible to make a pause after first-passing?
Second question - RipBot reads chapters but without names - maybe it is possible to add this feature?
Third question - possibility of ripping of extra features (trailers etc.) included in disc, maybe this could be possible?
Fourth question - possibility to select multiple audio tracks to add to mkv container at once?
Thanks for answers in advance...

mp4 is limited to AAC and AC3. However AC3 is not supported by majority of devices (ipod/PSP/PS3/xbox360 for example plays only AAC)
if you choose mkv then you can use lossless FLAC compression. (better compression than TrueHD and DTS-MA)

the problem here is that many devices don't support flac, but DO support true-hd and DTS-MA. I think thats why people keep asking for it, including myself. FLAC is fine for computer use, but not for external network devices that can play mkvs. Pleeeeease reconsider? :)

Hi Atak.
First of all: Great Software, thank you for your hard work.

Now my problem:
I want to convert the "Genesis-The Video Show" DVD. For every song there is one VOB File, so I need a very long time to add the jobs for each VOB. It would be much easier if Ripbot could import the IFO file, so I can convert the complete DVD to one single MKV (I dont want a MKV file for every 4-5min Video).
I tried a few programs that muxes VOB files together (like VOBmerge), but everytime the output was async.

Is it possible to add the option to open IFO Files with Ripbot?

Greatings from Germany.

I've been getting around this by processing the ripped bluray feature with TSMuxer to downconvert the audio, wondering if Ripbot can again do this during the demuxing phase..

But can someone make a [ level 4.1 ] HD . BluRay . Consoles.txt profile for me please ? It's imperative for some High Quality Rips like Baraka which relies on image quality
You better do your homework and read again first post.

Plus to show my appreciation to Author of RipBot264 I even made an installer out of it that creates shortcuts to most used apps included in archive.
Is one installer not enough?

AVCHD only supports AC-3 and PCM audio.

this is only true in theory. i tried using a DTS track in AVCHD and it played fine on a bluray player. i think it's because AVCHD uses bluray structure and bluray players support DTS.

What do you want him to reconsider? True-HD and DTS-MA can't be muxed in mkv and mp4 and aren't allowed on AVCHD discs.

has anyone tried using these audio formats in AVCHD and playing them?

This is my final answer:
DTSMA -> wav -> AC 640kbps = DTS core 1,5 MBps in terms of quality.

Now tell me why would use DTS if you could get the same quality with smaller AC3??? Blind tests made by professional do not lie. Just use google.

@jacksback
I forgot to add proper downmix for 6.1 audio. You will have to wait for new version.

Atak, thanks for the link to the existing dialoge, so one last question now that I think I understand your rationale.

Are you suggesting to use Aften 640 kbs AC3 for all DTS Dolby HD audio conversion?

Ripbot plays nice with evo files. Suggest you pick the first pevob.evo or feature.evo file with Ripbot.

On a couple of titles where it didnt and in those cases used either tsmuxer or hdbrstreamextractor to pull out the necessary video/audio streams. Two titles off hand that gave me headaches were The Frightners (had interview with Peter Jackson at the begining of the file that needed be removed) and Galaxina (which had 13 evo files that made up the main feature). That title was very poorly authored.

I've got both those titles and can take a look using 14.6. Unfortunately my pc is busy encoding so this would have to wait till tomorrow.

If problem is with eac3to, go back two version to 14.4 and see if that build gives you same issue.

I have problems with "2001 - Space Odyssee" converted to AVCHD.
Film begins with a 2 minutes black scene only with music.
When playing this scene at PC all is fine, but when playing AVCHD at Panasonic Player or PS3, i get stuttering sound.
I reencoded AVCHD with --min-keyint 2 --keyint 24 and scene works fine at PS3 and Pany.
So I think, default of "--min-keyint 25 --keyint 250" in Ripbot are abit too high for AVCHD.
They may work in normal films, because scenedetect reduces keyint, but when the strange thing happens that keyint really goes to 250 (for example in 2 minutes black screens) then maybe some incompatiblity pops up.

I will extract that scene and will recode it with some other keyints and min-keyints to find out at what threshold both players begin to stutter.
First step will --keyint 60 (default for rc-lookahead from preset slower onward)

hi, i just installed the newest update 14.6. i've been using 14.3 for a long time without problems.

Can someone educate me real quick on the choices of subtitle options. at the output menu upper right corner where you choose your subtitles, i click on the + sign and there're three choices,

1. english.sub
2. english.sup
3. english_forced.sup

the #2 has the largest size and #1 smallest.

i am assuming the the forced will burn the subtitle into the picture with no option of turning it off, correct? what about #1, and #2, which one do i choose if i want the subtitle to have the option to be turned off/on. which is better in your opinions.

i am really glad to see the revision history mention now that 14.6 finally have the option of implementing subtitles into the encoding in a much easier way perhaps without using another software. i guess i will find out if it really works once the encoding is done.

It's not permanent green bars. I step back to 1.14.5 with same ffdshow has 1.14.6 recommand and conversions all done correctly.

If can mkv handles copyrighted medias? And why should 1.14.5 version pass it correctly?

Did it can be possible about b-pyramid removed can cause that trouble to the conversion?

Thanks!
Did you check the sample i've send?

Anyone?

Hi!

I currently have a problem when inputing any video file (be it avi, mkv or anything) in RipBot.

While it should be demuxing the audio in a temp directory and show the track in the audio part of the soft, it doesn't do it.

It keeps showing [NO AUDIO] in the Audio drop-down.

Any input on this?

does this file work?
http://www.mediafire.com/file/knzwjzqrh1j/00157.mp4

Yes.

if yes then replace old iphone profile with this
http://www.mediafire.com/file/ijqnmjyewkz/[BASE 3.0] iPOD . iPhone . Zune.txt

.

I had to rename it to "[BASE 3.0] iPOD . iPhone", because with the original name it didn'T want to convert the video stream.

But somehow the bitrates for my Doom sequence (first person shooting) are too low (200-300 kbit/s), so the quality is really bad. Not so for my other files.

Edit: It's much faster than the old profile.

1. english.sub
2. english.sup
3. english_forced.sup

1. english.sub was converted from .sup because .mkv does not support blu-ray subtitles only DVD (size is smaller due to lower numbers of colors)
3. english_forced.sup contains only part when actors use foreign language (arabic terrorists :)

Remember 'Selectable subtitles" section does not burn subtitles into picture!
