Actually using eac3to/ClownBD to rip everything first worked best. I'm now running the first pass of 2. I am resizing my rips to 720p for space purposes. It's going to take 4 hours per pass it looks like.

I don't understand what you mean. It sounds like you're not using Ripbot to rip, but are using it to build your AVCHDs. How do you do that? Can you give me more detail on the steps you're using?

After being ripped by AnyDVD, Clown_BD creates movie only BD's (with only wanted audio and subtitles). If the results are bigger than 23.3GB then they can go through Ripbot.

Correct, I had started this process before someone posted the fix for Ripbot. I'll try the fix tomorrow. 8 hours to build a 720p mkv though is ridiculous.

I tested the mkv I made tonight of Iron Man. Damn does it look great!! I have it down to 720p/AC3 for size reasons but it looks great on my TV.

Hey, thank you for developing this nice program.
I was using the version 1.13 under Windows 7 64 bit and it worked great.
Now, (I have no clue why) it cannot create a Job. I choose the file (mkv, vob or mp4), the process start, demuxing audio appears or indexing and then it opens MPC with render error. No jobs, nada.
The same problem with the 1.14.
Do you have any clue ?

Never mind, removed everything (ffdshow, avisynth, ...) and installed again. Now it`s working.

Thank you,

Atak, any chance we can see a DTS-HD/Master Audio to FLAC option for those with the ArcSoft TMT decoder installed?

64bit version working for me OK with ini file set to: Usex264x64=1 in version 1.14.0. Also confirmed by the task manager showing the x264_x64 file running during encoding

Same here, working fine with 1.14

Yes, the ArcSoft Total Media Theater includes a DTS-HD MA decoder. You will need to find a version prior to 3. I am using 2.1xxxx and it works flawlessly. Unfortunately, I have to manually demux the audio track and encode to flac with eac3to. I can then import the audio track into RipBot. Would definitely be nice if this support was added similar to the TrueHD/PCM support Atak introduced in 1.14.

Hello, I'm having a problem, not sure how to go about this.
I downloaded this, and the other three necessary programs avisynth, matroska splitter and ffdshow too. I was able to convert like, 3 shows to psp format, but then things started to get bad.

Now, everytime I try to convert something, it takes several minutes to initialize. This isn't my main problem though--everytime, it barely even finishes audio, and my computer will just restart, without any prompting from me whatsoever.

I looked on google to find out why, and some place said to look in my computer management files to see any red flags. Well, this is what those say:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows Search Service

---

I figured it was just the mkv file type or whatever, but now that I've tried an alternate mp4 file, it still restarts, sometimes not even fully doing the audio. Does anyone know why this is? I mean, I can't convert anything it seems, all it does is take 5 minutes to initialize, a few minutes to get through the audio IF its able, and might start the encoding, but soon after my comp just restarts (due to the application failure, usually the one i posted).

Usex264x64=1

Does not work >_<

I had the same problem on Windows 7 64bit. Started my encode and x264_x64 reported a crash. I got it to work by using the 4.0 profile instead of a custom 4.1 profile which had a buffer and max rate of 50000.

Don't know if the 4.1 profile had anything to do with the crash or if it was just coincidence that x264_x64 worked after changing to 4.0.

Oh and yesterday was my first post and I never thanked Atak for his amazing program

Thank you Atak :)

It has solved the problem for me.

Thanks Balthazar. I didn't get a chance to test it because I upgraded to Windows 7 and that resolved all my problems.

Question for Atak, will RipBot continue normally during any phase after Hybernation? My laptop shutdown after 360 minutes and after starting it back up, x264_x64 and RipBot continued as normal. I'm hoping that the data is not corrupt due to the Hybernation.

Thanks

Oh and one enhancement request, if possible, can you add a pause button? I use my main Desktop for work and have had to abort a number of encodes if I needed to do some quickly.

Thanks

One more question which is sort off topic (I think). How can I burn forced subtitles into an mkv? It's hard to determine which subtitle track is the forced one. I'd like to rip my copy of Black Hawk Down but will need forced sub support. I generally use PS Media Server for playback, but can test in MPC.

Edit: Also, how can I make a proper mkv if the main movie is not all in one m2ts?

Hi Atak,

Trouble with 1.14.1;

I convert an mkv blu-ray ripp to AVCHD with fix 4480mb, project after conversion his too big to enter on a DVD5. When DTS normally i enter 4425MB and size is ok but now still oversize than DVD5. I retry with 4400MB ans still oversize. I cant convert and burn on a dvd5. I try with 3 movies, does the same.

Are you crazy!? You want to put uncompressed audio on 4,37 GB?!?

I will do math for you!
2h:01m:14 = 7200+60+14 = 7274 seconds
48000hz * 6 * 2 (8 bit = 1 byte , 16 bits = 2 bytes) = 576 000 bytes/s

7274 seconds * 576 000 bytes = 4189824000 bytes (3996 MB)

And here is my question. What bitrate did you expect for movie if audio takes almost 4GB ?!?!

Higher bitrate than AC3. I do not have a receiver capable of any of the newer formats.
Did you know that AC3 640kbps gives almost the same quality as DTS 1536 kbps? No? So now you know.

Hi,

I am using Ripbot 13.3.7 with Windows Vista64. I want to shrink National Treasure to fit on BD-R.

Movie is reported as 2:11:4.531; audio (copy stream of AC3 640 kbps audio) shows as 2:11:4.512. BDinfo shows original movie has 19 chapters. (is the mismatch in movie/audio length the cause of my problem below?)

After converting National Treasure, creating ISO and playing with Power DVD9, it shows 13:15:21 in the movie info box for movie length (BDinfo on the converted mt2s also reports this length). Both bdinfo and PDVD also shows 20 chapters. The 20th chapter appears to be all black. The movie actually ends at the right place on the slider bar (2:11) bot then plays a black screen for the remaining 11 plus hours.

Any ideas why I have this 11 hours of black screen?

Thanks,

Zot

edit - sorry - I meant 1.13.3. Don't know what my fingers were drinking before typing :-)

Hello,

I'm not well versed in AVCHD versus Blu ray format, so forgive me in advance. I"m just trying to shrink from a BD-DL original to fit on a BD-R (sometimes even after removing unwanted audio/sub streams the movie is still too big)

Ripbot v 1.13.3 allowed output to Bluray as an option. v 1.14.1 shows AVCHD as the output option in its place. Do I just use imgburn to create the iso from the AVCHD output, burn to BD disk and I'm done (for playback in a standalone BD player on BD media) - or do I need to move files/folders around, edit clipinf header, etc first?

no, the version 1.13.3 work 100% with DTS size to 4425MB.

Is there a way to put a custom size yourself? I still have not figured how to keep HD audio with RipBot so that I can burn it normally in blu-ray structure on a BD25. So doing video only with RipBot in custom size and separately ripping HD audio with TSmuxer and then muxing the two together seems like a way.

Sure, make sure 2 pass is set, check lock to MB and enter in a size in MB.

I've already fixed this in my 1.14.2. Bug was cased by latest MediaInfo. Older version was always rounding DTS bitrate to 1536000 bps but latest mediainfo detects more precisely. Real bitrate for DTS is in fact smaller (~1510000 bps). My calculation formula was looking for 1536000 bps instead of something between 1509000 bps 1510000 bps.

BTW. is it possible to install Arcsoft DTS decoder without whole TMT package

Good question. I installed ver 2.1xxxx as an entire package (fortunately, the trial version is sufficient). I have looked several places and most everybody seems to be doing it that way. Do not use version 3 as ArcSoft has made changes to their decoder and eac3to is not able to use it. Unfortunately, it is the only way to properly decode 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio into FLAC.

First of all

Excellent program, simple to use and great results

But I have a question

I have been trying to sharpen the video quality (to take the soft look out of the picture) and after trying different variations of the settings I don't seem to get much better results

Has anyone been successful in achieving this or is it not possible to do so with RipBot

Thanks Jim

Atak just tried a few 2 hr movies AVCHD 720p (2 pass) using 1.14.1 - On my quad core PC encoding takes about 50% longer than using 1.13.3 and CPU utilization is running at about 50-60% on pass1 and 80-90% on pass 2. Using all previous versions of ripbot CPU utilization has always been at 95-100% on all 4 cores for pass 2.
Not sure if this is caused by the latest x264 release or a change in your ripbot settings.

TrueHD will be uncompressed to LPCM.

and CPU utilization is running at about 50-60% on pass1 and 80-90% on pass 2.
This is normal. First pass does not require that much cpu cycles. If you enable Denoiser (GPU) cpu utilization can be a little bit lower. Simply CPU is waiting for GPU to finish filtering.

Must be the new x264 slowing the process down - just tried the same movie with 1.13.3 - all commandline settings are the same used in 1.14.1 ( bitrate ,drive partition all the same) . With 1.13.3 encode is about 70% of the time using 1.14.1 and all cpu utilization is higher.

Can you explain what it will mean for an encode result burnt on a BD25? Will it just have a movie but instead of TrueHD there will be LPCM? Will there be a ny difference between it and the original track? Is there any way to make it TrueHD again before burning on a blank?

Yes! Movie will have LPCM audio instead of TrueHD. You must know that uncompressed audio has 100% the same quality as compressed format. This like uncompressing .zip or .rar archive to original state.

Yes! Around 40% bigger. Do not worry about that because BD has enough room for video and uncompressed audio.

I think I know why my Sony S350 is not FF/RW and chapetering ok. I put a ripbot file into mediainfo and GOP sizes is Keyint= 250 and keyint_min=25. I put a BD ReBuilder file in that works with the S350 and the keyint=24 and keyint_min=1.

By about 40%!!!? That's still kind of crazy. So if a TrueHD track is about 3-4Gb, uncompressed will take 5-7Gb? That's a lot and video will have to be of lesser quality. I know 25Gb is a lot for both video and hd audio, but a golden middle by leaving the original TrueHD would be nice. AC3 is too little and LPCM is too much (why waite additional 2GB of space that could be used for better video).

Atak_Snajpera

You will need cybernetic eyes to see any difference! x264 is VERY VERY efficient. Movie shrank to 7.96 gb can look as good as original! On BD you have 3 times more space! Besides If you are that crazy about quality you should not re-encode at all!

I wonder encodes at which percentage rate of the original video will show signs of lesser quality? I remember when I did encode DVDs, video at about 60% would show macro blocking etc.

I encode 1080P videos to 3.99gb (4094mb target size) with 5.1AAC Audio with minimal quality loss to fit on FAT32 devices.

I find this offers a great compromise between absolute quality and convenient size, In my opinon the low compression/high bitrate of a normal BluRay video (average 15-20Gb) + 3-4gb of 5.1 audio is more to allow the use of lower hardware specifications in dedicated BluRay players meaning lower producton costs for manufacturers than to guarantee the best image quality.

As long as the device you use for playback has the horsepower to decode a more agressively encoded video stream (e.g a PS3) you won't notice a big difference between a 4gb encode and the original (except for maybe a bit of blocking and averaging in dark scenes)

Just my take on it. try it out for yourselves

For some reason after loading a avs script the boxes for "mode" and "save as" are still greyed out. I'm not able to select two pass or avchd. Is anyone else having this problem?

I don't know what's wrong but I've tried 3 seperate computers and I still can't get RipBot264 to allow changes when a avs script file is used as video input. It worked perfectly in the previous version. It's like it is not detecting the video format. Loading a mkv directly everything works find. Loading a avs script file for the same mkv doesn't work. This is the script:

DirectShowSource("C:\Personal\Videos\sample.mkv", audio=false)
AssumeFPS(24000,1001)

It was a Russian blu-ray movie. I did not keep the working folder. I started doing another movie right away but without HD audio. I will try a movie with TrueHD later again and will see if it will work.
I looked at log files before deleting them and the ones that were there did not have any error reports. I guess Muxing process just froze. I aborted Ripbot and it deleted the encode. TSmuxer was still in active processes and I had to close it through Task Manager.

Funny you should mention that! I've been meaning to thank for your 'low priority' setting. I start an encoding and then start playing a game. Ripbot is so well behaved that I never even notice it is running in the background. Obviously the encodes take a lot longer, but that is to be expected.

It would be nice if Windows allowed one to assign a process to a core or series of cores (game to core 1, Ripbot to cores 2,3, & 4), but that doesn't seem possible.

Yup it was the ffshow June 1, 2009 that made ripbot264 crash in 1.14.0 & 1.14.1. see even someone said that they had issue & i was right :)

Update: ffshow June 7, 2009 hang now in but don't crash avs2avi, went back to ffshow May 28, 2009 2975 & it work now.

How do I handle anamorphic video with ripbot? I've searched all through the thread and forum and can't seem to find a definite answer. Thanks

Being new to RipBot and after using RipBot264 v1.14.1 for some hours this afternoon, may I express my admiration for this even for a beginner very easy to use program :)

and ask some questions:
1. What is a fair compromise between computation time and keeping as much as possible from the input quality for 720x480 NTSC or 720x576 PAL h.264 output which should be played in AVCHD mode via a PS3, upscaled by the PS3 to 1920x1080 and routed to a 37" (or bigger) LCD screen?
1.1 For this goal is video profile "[High 4.0] HD, BluRay, Consoles" adequat?
1.2 Is CQ 22 ok or should I take CQ 20 or CQ 18? (space is not so important)
1.3 Is audio profile "2.0 CT AAC-LC 128 kbps [abr]" really sufficient to reproduce the audio input "lpcm 16 bit 48 kHz" properly? (I normally keep the audio as "lpcm" for output or convert to "2.0 ac3 448 kbps".) What would be the equivalent AAC bitrate?

2. I get an "Audio TimeStretch problem" when I try to convert the 30 fps input wmv to 720x576 25fps PAL output!
#Tempo
video=AssumeFPS(video,25)
audio=TimeStretch(audio,tempo=25/30*100)
-> No audio / silent audio!!!
An empty/silent audio is produced!

(Conversion to 720x480 29.970 NTSC output seems to work, though.)

3. Picture properties "Size > SD-NTSC 720x480 [1,78:1]" is remembered,
Output Speed "Assume -> 29,970 FPS" is NOT!

4. Audio (relates to question 1.3)
4.1 Selected Video profile can be edited and new one stored, why not same for audio profile?
4.2 Best Audio profile currently is "2.0 AAC-LC 128 kbps [abr]", why not also allow optionally 256 kbps or 448 kbps ?
4.3 Audio profile "2.0 lpcm 16bit 48kHz" why not add it as an option?
4.4 Audio profile "2.0 ac3 16bit 48kHz 448kbps" why not add it as an option?

5. What will happen with real long show, lets assume >5hrs?
When intermediate wav will get > 4GB? (At the very beginning "Please wait, converting audio", before main window will get ready?)

After resolving these questions I could consider to change over to using RipBot instead of MeGUI or NeroVision to produce good footage for multiAVCH.

How do I handle anamorphic video with ripbot? I've searched all through the thread and forum and can't seem to find a definite answer. Thanks
What do you do exactly? BD -> AVCHD , DVD -> AVCHD or MKV -> AVCHD?

Do not upscale 720x480 or 720x576! Those resolutions are also supported by Blu-Ray players.

1.1 For this goal is video profile "[High 4.0] HD, BluRay, Consoles" adequat?
Yes

1.2 Is CQ 22 ok or should I take CQ 20 or CQ 18? (space is not so important)
I would start with default CQ22

1.3 Is audio profile "2.0 CT AAC-LC 128 kbps [abr]" really sufficient to reproduce the audio input "lpcm 16 bit 48 kHz" properly? (I normally keep the audio as "lpcm" for output or convert to "2.0 ac3 448 kbps".) What would be the equivalent AAC bitrate?
AAC-LC 128 kbps sounds at least as good as MP3 192 kbps. 448 kbps for stereo is a waste of space! You won't hear difference!

2. I get an "Audio TimeStretch problem" when I try to convert the 30 fps input wmv to 720x576 25fps PAL output!
#Tempo
video=AssumeFPS(video,25)
audio=TimeStretch(audio,tempo=25/30*100)
-> No audio / silent audio!!!
An empty/silent audio is produced!

(Conversion to 720x480 29.970 NTSC output seems to work, though.)

I do not recommend 30 -> 25 conversion! Difference in speed is too big. People will be talking tooooo slooow... I would leave default 30 fps.

4.1 Selected Video profile can be edited and new one stored, why not same for audio profile?
4.3 Audio profile "2.0 lpcm 16bit 48kHz" why not add it as an option?

I see reason

4.2 Best Audio profile currently is "2.0 AAC-LC 128 kbps [abr]", why not also allow optionally 256 kbps or 448 kbps ?
4.4 Audio profile "2.0 ac3 16bit 48kHz 448kbps" why not add it as an option?
AAC-LC 128 kbps > MP3 192 kbps . 256 and 448(!!!) is a waste of space (Yes I know I just repeated my self)

5. What will happen with real long show, lets assume >5hrs?
When intermediate wav will get > 4GB? (At the very beginning "Please wait, converting audio", before main window will get ready?)
Instead of .wav I use .w64 (wave64). It can be > 4GB

After resolving these questions I could consider to change over to using RipBot instead of MeGUI or NeroVision to produce good footage for multiAVCH.
Frankly I don't care if you use my gui or other.

If RipBot264 detects 16:9 source and your output resolution is 720x576 , 704x576 , 720x480 or 704x480 final mkv will be encoded as anamorphic. Proper --sar value will be added to x264 command line.

DVD PAL uses 720x576 and DVD NTSC uses 720x480 so you don't have to do anything.

a) If you want anamorphic video then do not change original DVD resolution
b) If you do not want anamorphic video then crop black borders and select Custom size with locked aspect ratio

I have been looking through the posting and have seen several questions asked on this (and have tried all the answers, but no luck so far).

I have used Ripbot on Windows XP in the past, and am now just trying out Ripbot264 1.14.1 (and also 13.3.3) on Windows 7 RC 7100 64-bit. Unfortunately, regardless of what I do, I keep getting "AviSource: Could not decompress frame 0" when trying to read from a divx/xvid files (I have tried many). I am trying to transcode this for iPhone and PSP. I have installed:
* Avisynth 2.58
* ffdshow 2968 clsid 64bit
* ffdshow 2975 clsid x86
* MatroskaSplitter (x86 version)

and have also used Win7DSFilterTweaker 1.0 to reassigned decoding of Xvid and DivX to ffdshow. Playback works when playing from MPC, but no such luck on the getinfo.avs with the error message above.

If you have successfully got this installed on Windows 7 RC 64-bit, please can you share how you did the install? BTW, mkv works fine with Ripbot - just not DivX and Xvid...

Thanks!

... Frankly I don't care if you use my gui or other. But I do! I like your GUI! Its far more intuitive to use than other. By the way, after having done 3 fairly big jobs I like it even more.

In the meantime I found out how to modify queued jobs to change some parameters which I currently cannot modify in the GUI. But i would prefer to do the following settings in the GUI:
1. Set CQ to "--crf 16" and/or "--crf 14" in "job1_EncodeVideoPass1.cmd" (I aim for >= 4000 Kbps video bitrate and with CRF=18 currently get < 3000 Kbps)
2. Set "-b 448" in "job1_EncodeAudio.cmd"
(just have noticed that the initial audio profile "2.0 CT AAC-LC 128 kbps [abr]" gets set to "2.0 Aften AC3 256 kbps [cbr]" after selectin AVCHD output; I normally use 448 kbps)
3. Set "--auto-chapters=3" in "tsmuxer.meta" (I normally use 3 min chapter intervals)

These settings may be weird and overkill but I would like to have the option to use them.
Do you see a chance to offer these settings in your GUI?

... I do not recommend 30 -> 25 conversion! Difference in speed is too big. People will be talking tooooo slooow... I would leave default 30 fps.
....
DVD PAL uses 720x576 and DVD NTSC uses 720x480 so you don't have to do anything.Does this include that 720x480 does not need 29.970 NTFS and 720x576 does not need PAL 25 fps framerate to be blu-ray / AVCHD compliant and I could use the 30 fps of the original input footage for both frame sizes? That would be real good news!

What does the audio option "X,X Copy STREAM ???" mean? Is it what VirtualDub would call "Direct stream copy" ?

Is it possible to store all selected settings as a personal profile for reuse in next sessions without needing to redo these settings at every session start again?
Would boost ease of use if you have, lets say, a hundred of similar footings to treat in the same way in the corse of a year or so.

Thanks for your patience with me newbie and for your great program!

Oh my god :) Wouldn't be easier to enter value 16 in gui? :) BTW. Instead of aiming for bitrate you should aim for quality! 4Mbps for SD sounds crazy for me. Also 448kbps for stereo is crazy as well. I really don't understand your way of thinking in this case.

Does this include that 720x480 does not need 29.970 NTFS and 720x576 does not need PAL 25 fps framerate to be blu-ray / AVCHD compliant and I could use the 30 fps of the original input footage for both frame sizes? That would be real good news!
At least PS3 doesn't care about that :) You will have to do some test on your Blu-Ray player.

CelaWill you make it possible in some near future?

P.S.
Another weird question:
"Please Wait... Demuxing audio stream..." can take a long time! And means tiresome waiting to finish before being able to go on configuring the batch job.
And same for next, and next,...

Cannot it be queued like other processing steps and let do the user the GUI configurations first?

Hello All,

Yes, this is my first post.

So, I have been using RipBot264 to create .mp4 files of a number of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD movies, which I then stream to my XBOX 360. I am quite happy.

But (you knew there was going to be a but) ...

For some movies, once I select all of the encoding settings, the number of frames shrinks dramatically such that instead of RipBot taking 5 to 6 hours, it takes 20 or 30 minutes and produces just the first 5 to 10 minutes of the film.

Why is this happening? And what can I do to make it rip the entire movie?

Thanks in advance!

I have run into a problem with doing a mkv to mp4 conversion. I have some mkv files I created with RipBot264 and wanted to convert them down to iphone compatible mp4s. Well, when I go to load the file in RipBot264, RipBot demuxes the audio and then says "Please Wait While Gathering Info...." and then just hangs. I can adjust audio settings during this time, but video is not adjustable. Now, I am running Win7 x64 and had a similar problem when ripping VC-1 files, but that has since been rectified. Any ideas? I would really like to get some of these files converted for my son to watch...

'totally unmannered former Eastblock kid with skills' stereotype?
I'm not familiar with this stereotype. Where have you read this? In some book , magazine or leaflet? You better get used to it because you will see more in future if somebody asks without even thinking in advance. BTW. You don't have to read this thread at all.

So since I posted this I have tried some other import manners other than just trying to add the mkv. First, I have tried movies in both mp4 and mkv format with the same results. I have also attempted to manually demux both and add the video file as a separate mkv with the same result. It appears that the problem is something more fundamental. I have noticed that ffdshow does not load during the demux stage or the "Please wait while gathering info...". Is that normal?

Well, it turns out I am an idiot. I made a change to the RipBot264.ini yesterday and didn't realize I misspelled the default profile. Well, that was causing RipBot to hang. I finally figured it out when it couldn't encode a BluRay today and it was working yesterday morning. Then I remembered tinkering in the ini file and voila.

Thanks for your time and sorry for the false alarm.

I do have a question regarding audio normalization. I have never been able to get it to work. Anytime I set it to either 100% or 200% with AAC audio and go to start the encode RipBot just hangs. It never starts the encode. Is there a secret I am missing?

There is a strange behaviour related to CoreAVC in conjunction to Ripbot: if I use hardware AVC decoding, after let's say 25% of 1st pass, the Ripbot window freeze and so does the tray icon. However, if you go with the mouse on the brown circle, it shows an increasing percentage and the encoding process goes on.

My system is Windows7 7100 RC x64, Nvidia 8600GTS and I7 920 OC to 3.33GHz. I know that FFDShow could be faster to decode AVC but having some CPU power left is useful..

It appears I was a little premature in my celebration. I just tried converting an mp4 with 6 channel aac to an iphone compatible mp4 with 2 channel aac with 200% normalize. When I start the encode Ripbot skips the audio and start encoding the video directly. The previous file I tried was an mkv with flac and that worked fine.

yep, DGAVCDecNV from neuron2. I can use megui to create an avisynth and use nvidia hardware deinterlacing, which is great quality and may speed up the encoding process.

Why don't you use internal deinterlacer (Yadif). You won't see difference on PSP.

ah yeah that is a problem :) i dont think there is a trial, although i cant be 100% sure. although i would gladly pay for your copy if you did ever want it.

oh yep i do use yadif and your right, the PSP is hardly going to show up any differences in quality. I do think it speeds things up considerably though as the de interlacing is all done on the GPU and frees up the CPU. When your converting the 2 hour 50fps england game from ITV HD, the extra 10fps makes a difference!

although i must confess i have not done full like for like testing in megui hardware vs ripbot software, maybe i should....

this is my first post as up to the last few days i have used your software w/o a problem since it was first developed. so thank you for taking your time to develop such an outstanding and stable piece of software. easy to use and VERY useful.

about a week ago, out of the blue, i began receiving the following error. tried reverting back to an older version of your software and even updated to v1.14.1 and it still occurs.

i googled the error, and searched this thread but could not find any answer. any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.

You need very fast cpu in order to have preview in sync for fullHD.
At the moment I can suggest this:
1) Install ffdshow 2975 and enable ffmpeg-mt (multithreaded decoder) decoder for h.264
2) Check audio sync in preview without modifing anything (Resize OFF!)
3) if delay is constant adjust manually audio delay in gui (last page)

yep just did some test using ripbot and it was very similar using yadif, around the mid 30FPS.
If think this is because yadif is single threaded. x264 probably waits longer for data. Is CPU utilization the same in both cases?

Noticed a new Bug with v1.14.1, Sunshine BR UK would reach the end of the extraction process and delete the video.mkv, v1.13.3 completes fine.

i think i know why 8ternity's audio is out of sync and the same is happening to me, when i render out a 23.98 movie and tell ripbot to not change the framerate, it is still converting to 29.97, hence to movie is playing too fast and the audio gets further and further out of sync..

also another question, what are the requirements for "xxCopy Stream" to appear? I've noticed it doesnt always show up since moving to 1.14.1.

Audio must be supported by container. mp4 allows only .aac. AVCHD - AC3 , DTS , LPCM (.wav). MKV supports alot more - OGG , AAC , AC3 and so on.

If think this is because yadif is single threaded. x264 probably waits longer for data. Is CPU utilization the same in both cases?

You did? So, RipBot still allows cropping? (other than 720p, 1080p are not supported in AVCHD). Frankly, when I saw the AVCHD option on images posted here, I didn't update any more, thinking you'd abandonned cropping.

AVCHD , Bluray do not allow cropped video. m2ts is just a container not format/structure

I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ (3.20GHZ x2) and an Direct-X10 video card of 512MB GDDR4 PCI-E video card, also 2x2GB Dual 800MHZ kit. normally i have no problem at all with preview in 1080P.

I will install and make thease settings and let u know when everything is ok.

Anyway we can start adding some common questions to the first post?

For example, I am wondering the best way to remove the black bars and have my ripped bluerays to mkv fit my entire screen.

Do I do an autocrop, and then set HD-Full for the resolution?

I am pretty sure this has been answered before, but I couldn't find it.

You realize how much of the movie youre missing by chopping off the sides? Movies arent made in 16:9, clearly, so by chopping off the sides you are going to lose a lot of details.

Well, like when they broadcast a movie on HD, like on HBO HD and stuff, how are they formatting the movie.

There really needs to be a sub-forum for Ripbot.

I just tried the FLAC codec encoding option for ripping one of my blu-rays. and so far i got it to work and played. my questions is

1. does playing FLAC equipped MKV file through FFDshow require any tweaking on the FFDshow part? i currently only have "mixer" checked and set to 5 channels + LFE because that's what my speaker is setup to (5.1) and it's always been set to that way for playing all my other MKV files with ac3/dts streams that i created in the past. Some guy on this forum mentioned before something about down-mixing problems through playing FLAC in FFDshow, i just wanna double check that i am doing all the right thing.

as i understand FLAC is the closest as we can get to true source Lossless audio experience by far with Ripbot at least. it's not TrueHD or DTS-HD, but hey.... it's as good as it gets, i am not complaining too much.

FLAC is lossless codec so quality is EXACTLY the same as TrueHD and DTS-HD. Moreover flac offers higher compression. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1294403#post1294403

that was me who mentioned the problem. It happened when downmixing 7.1 to 5.1 but since playing 7.1 sound the same as 5.1 without the side speakers, i just left it at 7.1. You shouldnt have to tweak anything. I installed fresh and by default it is set to Mixer enabled at 7.1+LFE.

I also only use FLAC when the xxCopy Stream option isnt already available with the raw ac3/dts already on disc. I think the problem i was having is TrueHD (Dolby), DTS-HD Master, and raw PCM arent supported raw in MKVs, so thats the only time i use flac. but thats a personal preference.

i have some problems converting any file HD ".mov" into the iPhone format!
The Video is super-perfect, the audio is perfect "But" the volume is lowwwwww!
how is possible??

thx!

updated:

this happen only when the source file (HD file ".mov") have both "2.0 AAC" and "5.1 AAC" audio!
If the source file have only the "2.0 AAC" profile, its fine!
strange!!!

atak any idea why the volume is so low when i convert a source

I am having a little issue with ripbot maybe someone could help me with. Great program, has done everything I needed it to. I have the latest 1.14.1. I am converting from .vob to 264 for iphone, and works great. However, on one movie when I encoded it, it was cycling between different audio languages. I went to redo it and checked the preview a little closer and it is definately cycling between the audio languages. It will do a few seconds of english, then replay with a different langugage so on.... It is star wars III, and even on the first few seconds when the text is scrolling up on the openeing scene, it will display a litle english, then go back and display a little spanish, then go back and keep doing this. On another movie it encoded some previews first then the main movie. I looked at all the settings and cant figure for the life of me what to do. I tried changeing the audio track, didn't help. When I select the movie, i select the .vob with the biggest size, but i pick the first .vob in that series. so if the movie is .vob_7_1 i pick the lowest _7 .vob in that series like .vob_7_0, that didn't seem to help. I also picked the movie itself and that didn't help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

> Was wondering...why doesnt ripbot/ffdshow make use of ones video card for additional rendering power?

That is more up to the real brains behind the show... the x264 encoder itself. Writing code for using the GPU shaders is a pretty specialized process.... and there is also the different code involved for different brands of cards (nV vs. ATI).

FFDShow is just a tool used to "decode" the existing video into something that x264 can encode. It really doesn't suck too much computing power as compared to the encoder itself.

Ripbot is just a front-end to make all these tools work nicely together.

ATAK: Thanks for the 1.14.1 update - I was having difficulties with the W64 implementation, and having FLAC back is a huge help for me. (HD-DVD encodes were choking on the W64 part of things, and I couldn't convert the W64 to anything else. Now that FLAC is back, my audio is useful once again!) Thanks!!

Sounds like the video has angles in it...

Using anydvd with dvd decryptor in ifo mode. This will allow you to get the result you are looking for...

Ripping it this way will produce one VOB file 3~6GB in size (pendent on video) and will contain the correct audio...

I have had this problem only with multi angle videos...

If you choose to use file mode you may want to make sure the settings are set to retain the first angle.

The GPU is a great platform for only one thing and that is Processing vertices for 3D Rendering and game play.
They were never meant to be a data processing platform for video encoding.
So to expect it to have that capability in in it self dumb.
I think it a sad thing that the video card companies like nvidia and ati are trying to get CPU power out of GPU's that were made for nothing of the sort. :p

Is this a joke?

Select TrueHD or PCM. After demuxing select AVCHD then Select x.x copy audio stream

how much of a size difference would this oversizing cause, say, for a 2 hour file? ive recently done a few dts encodes with 1.14.1 and noticed the filesizes a lot bigger than normal but havent been able to figure out why.

another possibility ive thought of, is that grainy blurays (from older movie transfers) maybe make the encoder use a higher bitrate to try and reproduce all the graininess to match the original. what do others think of this?

Thats next on my list, but I doubt it will help as I have had this problem with the last several versions of RipBot (where I had updated everything it said to). I believe there is something either somehow uninstalled or missing or misconfigured on my end, but I have no idea what.

The previous video (and many more like it) were all h.264 with aac or ac3 audio. I also tried an xvid with mp3 audio and this time RipBot showed the Media Player Classic window with the text "AviSource: Could not decompress frame 0 (E:\Temp\RipBot264temp\job1\getinfo.avs, line2)". I am not positive, but would assume these issues are related.

Depends which container you intend to use, MKV's support seperate subs MP4's do not, also depends on what you intend to playback with, not all devices support subtitle switching (Pc's obviously do, try VLC for simplicity)

I will leave it others with regard to AVCHD as I have no experience there...

@Atak,

suprip is telling me that I lost 2 lines of subtitle. Will investigate.

Hi guys! I'm trying to convert an mkv file to an AVCHD disk. The mkv contains 5 channel AC-3 (codec A_AC3). I'd like to retain the 5 channels at a lower bitrate but Ripbot only displays options for downmixing to 2 channels or stream copy?

@Markanski

Hi!

If "RipBot" can't do this for you, you might try "AVCHDCoder"...
