View Full Version : What software for editing x264 videos?
What softoware is the best for editing videos, cuting etc. Similar to VirtualDub(Mod) but it's not working anymore with latest e.i mkv files.
Thanks in advance.

Sony Vegas 7 for h264/mp4.
If you need only cutting you can do it with Yamb/mp4box.
For h264/(mkv or mp4) files you may also try avidemux.

In the pay arena, Nero Vision, Ulead VideoStudio, and Canopus Edius & Procoder also offer AVC editing. (Videostudio is my favorite, Vegas is also quite good. Vision.... eh.) FCP still doesn't have a plugin, sadly.
Avidemux is your only good free VD-like software; VDM doesn't support native AVC at all.
Hi there. Thanks for help. I've got sony vegas now, but I can't open any mkv (x263,H.264) files. Perhaps I need some kind of plugins/addons? Any ideas?

Practically nothing can open mkv, particularly commercial tools. You have to mux into MP4 before you can start editing with the big suites. Avidemux can do the muxing, if you have compatible audio.
Actually, I take that back, ulead can handle mp4 but sony can only handle avi, mpeg-2, and wmv.
Hi there. I also need something to convert WMV to MKVas WMV does not play smoothly on my comp.
Thanks.

MKV is only a container. Muxing the WMV stream into an MKV conatiner (if possible at all) won't improve playback performance...

That's what I thought, I was just going by the site since I don't keep it handy - my memory's not very reliable. I can't figure out why they wouldn't parade that feature then.
