View Full Version : How to get/demux sound off .MTS files

Hi,

well i'd like to demux MTS files (from a Sony AVCHD Camcorder with HDD) so more programs can cope with them. The only editing suite that works right now is Sony Vegas - in my opinion a piece of crap. And the prog Sony ships with the cam to convert MTS to mpg is a screwup too, it's fast but cripples image quality.

Using TSRemux i've finally been able to convert MTS to _SHARP_ ts files which are accepted by most Programs, but it fails at getting the sound out of the files. (It displays it all right though, Dolby 5.1)

About the sound, anyway: I can play MTS using ffdshow, but without sound. VLC gives me sound, but does unspeakable things to the video and crashes a few seconds into playback.
Nero Vision/Recode offers both Video and Sound, but it doesn't allow me to demux the audio track only.

Ideas, anyone? Help is appreciated greatly
Thanks in Advance

Hi!VLC gives me sound, but does unspeakable things to the video and crashes a few seconds into playback.Since VLC recognizes the auiostream, try using the VLC "Wizard" to extract and save it...

Why, thanks a LOT

Odd things:

- While VLC cannot play the .mts video, the resulting file (target format .ts / no transcode) is perfecly playable - Video AND Audio - by ffdshow. VLC still crashes on the video part

- the resulting .ts has exactly the size of the file that tsremuxer returned, but the sound is working unlinke in the tsremuxers one

- the resulting file can be used in Premiere, but without sound again

- i can get the sound by transcoding into an .ogg file (not usable in premiere :( ).. the mpeg transcoder crashes, the raw transcoder screws it up .. ahh finally the wav transcoder works and i can USE the sound at last

Why, thanks a LOTIf this means that my suggestion allowed you to successfully extract the audiostream, you're quite welcome ;>}

TsRemux sound PES pakets follow the blu-ray standard, which some of the older programs can't cope with. I'm changing the next version of TsRemux to follow the "old" standard except when output type selected is blu-ray.
