I have a DVD with 4 episodes on it I want to rip, the first episode went fine. I got the video, main audio, commentary audio, english and spanish subs, no problem.

Also on the DVD is season 1 recap, its 1:02 min and has 1 vid, 1 audio, and the english spanish tracks, I decided to rip that also, but this time things didn't go so well.

The process thus far was: throw the DVD through DVD Decryptor in IFO mode and get the IFO and a VOB files of the current section I was working on. With the first episode I just put the resulting IFO into VSRip and out came the IDX and SUB files, beautiful! But when I load up the IFO for the Season Recap video, I get this:

Indexing...
Counting timestamps from 0ms (v01c01)
Indexing mode: File
v03 c01 lba00000000, skipping
v13 c01 lba00035176, skipping
Indexing finished
Saving files...
Subtitles saved
.chunk file saved
Done!

However, it does leave a .chunks file behind, but no IDX or SUB files. Attempting to run the same process again WITH the chunks file still there give me this error:

Indexing...
Counting timestamps from 0ms (v01c01)
Indexing mode: File
.chunk file loaded
ERROR: Could not find any system header start code! (0x000001bb)
ERROR: Make sure the ripper doesn't strip these packets.

Now I know the subs are there, it plays fine on Videolan (I wish it played fine on MPC also but that's another topic)

I'm open to other programs, but I have found none so far except one where it expected me to manually OCR them, and that still didn't export to IDX. The push on idx files is because that is what StaxRip likes, I've tried SRT's via mpeg2srt (Witch btw only exports the english sub), and the subs didn't display....

UPDATE: It appears its not only the Season One review, its every episode after the first that the subs wont rip. VSRip has a problem with something DVD Decrypter is doing...

Hi,

try to delete all the .chunk files you have in the folder where you try to extract the subtitles and re-do the process.

I have already get an error like this where the .chunk file was messed with the second subtitle i was trying to extract.

Good luck.
Bye.

...have you tried to extract subtitles with DVDSubEdit (http://download.videohelp.com/DVDSubEdit/)? then you could convert them (from .SUP) to IDX/SUB with SubtitleCreator (http://sourceforge.net/projects/subtitlecreator/).

How do you convert SUP subtitles to IDX/SUB with SubtitleCreator?

How do you convert SUP subtitles to IDX/SUB with SubtitleCreator?

Very easily. Just open your subtitle (Tools->Manipulate SUP ...). Then Save as and choose the VobSub format in the save drop-down box. However there is a timing bug if your subtitles are NTSC but a fix exist, search the forum if you need it. For PAL subs it's working fine.
