Hey there,

Can anyone recommend a good alternative to TSCV for doing authoring of VCDs and SVCDs? I need something that does intro movies, menus, and chapters. The VCD that I produced with TSCV will not play properly on my parents Philips DVD701. It plays the intro movie and just stays there.

I've looked at VCDEasy, and EZCD Creator 5, but neither of them do all three of the things I need.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris

I am not sure of the problem with your VCD, perhaps something that the menu waits infinitely.
If you are not among the weak-hearted, I suggest you study the XML that TSCV generates with the guides on this site http://www.geocities.com/medinotes/vcd
Although TSCV is really powerful GUI for VCD Imager I dont exploit it fully, I save the XML and make modifications manually to it.
I would suggest also that you make the BIN/CUE and test it on your computer using a Virtual CD-ROM drive like DAEMON-TOOLS. Use your Software DVD player to run the VCD and check if your requirements are satisfied and then burn it.

Hi dinesh,

I'll check out that site, but I'm probably not going to have the time to learn how to read XML. I was really hoping to find a good alternative that had all of these features.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi,

maybe you should check out Ulead Video Studio or Mediastudio with the DVD-PlugIn. It can be used for authoring VCD and (X)SVCD.
BUT (!!) it's not very flexible ... Features are intro sequence, still menus with chapter thumbnails ... fixed positions ... selectable background pic ...

Another alternative for authoring (providing more complex features) is the new Roxio Video Pack 5. It even supports digital satellite PVA streams ... But due to some major bugs (check out the homepage) I DON'T recommend to install it under WinXP ... this might crash your OS ... I know what I'm talking about ...

Hi,

Thanks, I'll check out the Ulead products. I hadn't even heard of the Roxio product, though. I'll run over to their website and see what it's all about.

Regards,
Chris
