View Full Version : Keeping original size

I have a file and it's original size is 720 x 480 pixels. The aspect is 4:3. Is there a way to make the output file be 720 x 480 like the input ?

Using ctrl-F9 and looking at .aspect the default is:
Override input AR - not checked
AR 16:9

When I ran it that way I got 720 x 544

I changed those to:
Override input AR - checked
AR original

Those settings got me 720 x 496

Any suggestions ?

load the file and dont go into the crtl-F9 menu.
if you dont want the resolution to change, then dont enable AR override nor cropping.

the next thing you have to do is set the minimum width or fixed width to 720, so
agk wont lower the resolution for the sake of compressability.

hope this helps :)

Hi,

It has always been tricky, from the MoreFAQ 4.6.1:
<<In the hidden options, check "Tune auto crop parameters," set Threshold to 0, and set all cropping to 0>>

That got me 720 x 544 again.

4:3 would be 720 x 540.

I'm a novice at this but the original dimension being 720 x 480 seems to conflict with the original's 4:3 aspect ratio. That confuses me... perhaps it is confusing agk also ?

Hi,

It is tricky, and NTSC, try unchecking the
" Detect and force 4:3 AR"
play with "Override input AR to original or 4:3"
search old threads for "no cropping with AGK" "Keep original aspect/AR with AGK" or something related ...

I don't use NTSC nor keep original, so I have no direct feedback but will use yours to update the MoreFAQ once successful :)

Two things are confusing you:

1) 720 x 480 is not 4:3. It is 1.5:1. The DAR of the original file may be 4:3, which is what AutoGK is outputting.

2) 720 x 540 does not comply with MOD16 (output in pixels evenly divisible by 16). It is correctly outputting 720 x 544, the closest divisible number. If that does not fulfill your needs, you will have to use another application, or another resolution (such as 640 x 480).

Thanks for the helpful information. I believe I'll just accept what I have now and probably use the 720 x 496 that I managed to achieve.

So you don't notice that people are a little bit fat at that resolution? Is there anything round in your video, like a sun, moon, or a ball? If so, you'll probably find it's not round at all, but a slight oval.

Why do people that don't know what they're doing insist on messing it up by using the Hidden Options? They're hidden for a reason. CWR03 gave you a very good explanation of what was going on, which you either didn't understand, or chose to ignore.

AutoGK is doing it right. The only one confused is you.
