View Full Version : Make it simpler - how do I get this HDDVD onto my HDD and play it from there?

I have an ATI X1900XTX so powerdvd doesnt let me play straight from the dvd. plus the 360 drive is noisy.

I have King Kong

I have wasted numerous hours on this forum now, originally starting in January. I only say "wasted" instead of spent because I have never played this HDDVD on my computer yet in any capacity.

Most everyone here talks in very technical language, and most or all programs I'm shown or led to are bare bones with no user interface OR worse yet, no documentation on how to use them. Programmed in various languages and I don't know what to do with them.

I have downloaded many different "decryptors" that come with several files and I don't know what they're all supposed to do or how to work with them.

Please make it simpler for the rest of us.

What I CAN do is follow clear directions and step by steps. However there doesnt seem to be any comprehensive set of steps out there. It's all bits and pieces and you're expected to fill in the gaps with knowledge from who knows where.

Now if you have to leave out certain steps because of certain legal issues, that's fine, but then point me in the right direction so I know what to do " by myself."

I have everything hooked up, I have the file structure thing for the 360 add on drive and can see the files.

Next I download what and do what.....? I know there are choices for programs, just choose the easiest for people like me and walk me through it please from start to finish.

If you need any preferences, I'd like the whole disc working from my HDD or at least the main feature, no subs turned on, working in 1080P with HW acceleration, and 5.1 audio. I have an X-Fi plat and Logi Z5500 set if that matters, and a rig to handle everything.

I'm sorry if you think I'm stupid, but maybe some of you guys forget everyone else out there isnt as well versed in all the technical or programming world as you are. I'm not saying "do it for me" - I'm saying "show me how to do it from start to finish each step and I'll learn".

Thank you in advance.

Hi Deusfaux, welcome to my world! lol.
I get the same tumbleweed effect when I post too, I may be able to help a little though. I have purchased a program called WMEA, http://www.wmeassistant.com/ now I have a small problem with it at the mo but i think its my pc configuration so it may work for you. Judging by your questions i reckon we are prob on about the same level of understanding this stuff so I can say with confidence this program is quite straight forward. I have managed to convert .mkv files to wmv so they play straight off a HDD conected to the 360 or in windows media player. How far have you got with king kong? Have you extracted it to your pc? I used slysoft AnyDvd to rip my HDDVD's, this leaves you with evo files. Then I have used EvoDemux to get my MPV/MPA files, this is a fantastic prog that as far as I can tell lets you remove the annoying subtitles that you cant turn off once you get the final WMV.
This is where I get stuck, wmea supports loading the mpv and mpa then its suposed to encode into an wmv but I get a drm error. I would email support but they are just going to say I havnt got the codecs installed because the mpv/mpa wont play in wmp, (thank god for abriviations!) I can tell you what codecs you need and how to install them if you get stuck but you would first need to commit to wmea as the trial is no use. Acording to the company it should be the answer to our probs if it does exactly what it says on the tin. I know people are going to read this (maybe) and say you dont need to spend money but If you are like me and would like a friendly, simple GUI then its the only thing I can find that supports everything including 5.1, corrections more than welcome guys.

Have you guys looked at the HD-DVD (and Blu-Ray) decrypting tools Sticky (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=123282) from the Decrypting Forum? The fourth bulleted list in the initial post to that thread details HD-DVD players, too.

Thanks for the info ammck55, I know its a pain when people just keep asking questions to answers already available. Ive had a look at the thread and I am going to start a new one to see if i can get to the bottom of this DRM issue...
