Hi!
Hope you guys can help me with my problem as Xmpeg doesn't run faster than 10 fps on my athlon xp 1800+, which I don't suppose to be normal, as there has been a test on tomshardware.de saying that more than 30 fps ought to be possible!!
I'm using a 640x480 resolution and have already tried several idcts and filters included in xmpeg 4.2a, but i never reached more than those 10 fps
Furthermore, I use the rhadium codec and divx 4.12
Can u help me?
Thx!

The Athlon XP 1800+ ROCKS at this kind of work. A couple things to check.
If this PC originally had another processor, you may need to reload Windows and update the motherboard BIOS. The reason: XMPEG can take advantage of the SSE capabilities in the Athlon XP processor. However, in order to use the SSE instruction set, two conditions need to exist:
(1) The BIOS enables the SSE instructions. Any recent BIOS should support this.
(2) Windows decides whether or not to support the SSE instruction set at the time of installation. Therefore if you upgraded the CPU later, the SSE instructions may not be enabled until Windows is reloaded.
Another thing to check is your disk drive interface. You want to make sure that your disk drives are being used in DMA mode, not PIO mode. You can see this during the bootup process when many PCs flash the drive settings on the screen. You can also check in the control panel. (Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> Disk Drives -> (Click on you hard disk) -> Settings).
These issues exist for both AMD and Intel. In general, my own experience has led me to believe that once you're up and running the AMD-based PC is the better one for this type of work.
Hope this helped.
