Hello, i'm looking for some help or advice on a little project i've started. I'm looking to pull multiple clips from dvds, and merge them into a single file for playback.
I've used dvdfab HD decrypter to rip the dvd's to harddisk, and then used ChopperXp to rip the actual clips/parts from each that we want.
I'm now looking for an app that can join them, and then produce a dvd quality file for burning onto a dvd5.
We have a 1080p (1920x1080) lcd tv, and anything less than dvd quality looks terrible on it. Is there a way to do this and not sacrifice any video or audio quality? File size is not a priority.
Thanks in advance!

No one interested? I did try dvdhd fab platinum, but it won't recognize the files chopper spits out. Nero will do the joining, but no sound?

Hi!
If you want to create your DVD with a menu, you might want to examine TMPGEnc DVD Author v.1.6. You can obtain a FULLY functional free 30 day trial version of this commercial program at:
http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tda16.html
Otherwise, check out the wonderful (freeware) DVD Flick program...

1> Ripping ... done!
2> Create clips ... you can try DGIndex to select and demux video (i dont know anything about chopperxp).
3> Those m2v files will be accepted by any DVD authoring program (for eg DVD-lab pro).
4> You can set approriate options in the DVD authoring program so that the clips are played one after the other.

I remember doing something like this using dvdauthor (http://dvdauthor.sourceforge.net/).
The main advantage is that dvdauthor can produce a basic dvd in one pass from vobs, meaning you don't have any further processing to do on the extracted clips, just add them to your dvdauthor project and run it.
But beware about the "single file" (if by that you mean single pgc) approach:
After using chopperxp the altered vobs are not "clean", the sound and video tracks may not have the exact same length, and if you concatenate them just as if they were some vob/cells extracted from a dvd there're chances the final file will get out of sync.
(at least it happened to me once using this process:
- demux by cell id
- remove unwanted cell files
- trim useless begin/end on some vobs with chopperxp
- cat the vobs with vobedit)
With dvdauthor you can produce a dvd with one clip per pgc, but all in one vts...

I have had the same thing: you might..
have dirty discs/player
have low quality media
have an incompatable rip (ie not properly re-authored)
real picky upconverting dvd player like I do.
Btw thaks for all the replies. The trial of dvd author worked exactly as I need it too. I used chooper xp to quickly and easily take out teh 5 minute clips we wanted, dropped them into dvdA and bang, it even opened a dvd burning app for me lol! Wonderful software. Is there anything else that compares for the $$ It's almost $70usd for the full version.

Glad to hear that TMPGEnc DVD Author" worked well for you!Is there anything else that compares for the $$ It's almost $70usd for the full versionAs I also mentioned, you could try the excellent freeware program, "DVD Flick" (Does chaptering, etc., but no menu capability)...

You know I did try it (briefly). I kept getting errors. I did spit out a log, and it said dirve E: not responding (that would be my dvd burner). I tried with and without disc's in it, but this was in the encoding stage it failed, nothing to do with burning.

Sounds like you erroneously had your burner set as the location for File Output...

I'm not sure. It gives me an error everytime it gets to the "combine audio and video" part. Also, does this program want to work with vobs? I have to drop down to "all files" to see the stuff chopperxp spits out, as there is no option for vob. Maybe i'm loooking over the obvious here?
Thanks for all that help!

as there is no option for vob.Enter "*.*" (WITHOUT the quotation marks) in the "Filename" box (The box above the "All files" box) and press the "Enter" key - Then select the .VOB...

Yes even when I use the wildcard to pull in all the files, once I start "combining" I get errors. The log states
E- not ready [/code]

Again, is the E:\ drive your burner?
If so, at the bottom of the Flick opening screen, go to the bottom left and click on the "Browse" button - and select the hard drive folder you want the to-be-created files to be written to...

Yep written to a folder on the hdd, even tried forcing it to rip it to an iso. It must be po'd about the files chopper Xp is spitting out (i'm guessing).

I'm afraid I have no further suggestions - because if these files worked under "TMPGEnc DVD Author", they should certainly work under Flick...
You're not trying to merge them into ONE title rather than a series of titles, are you?

Well by merge if you mean select multiple files at onece then yes.
Strangely enough, if I change the size to 700cdr, it works?
I will definately keep playing with this as it seems perfect for what I want.
Now i'll just need to find a way to normalize all the audio so they're the same. I can't believe the difference in bitrates from one dvd to the next!

VOBMerge is this tiny little perfect jem for joining VOB dvd files.
