I'm using Mplayer Classic with FFDshow, with post processing + deband + unsharpen mask. Works great for standard definition material.

Regarding sound, I actually never messed much with it. When I finally got spdif out working ok (which was an adventure on its own), I never changed it. :)

Media Player Classic [using Overlay Mixer] + FFDShow [with Deband in some cases] + Graphicscard that does proper chroma upsampling + Good CRT Monitor @ 100Hz! :D

Hi everyone, i've been using these settings as above mentioned for a while, today i've transformed from CRT screens to LCD (yes i know i am a poor person), now i have a doubt, will these settings still be the best for the WIDESCREEN LCD which is really good at displaying 1280X720 resolution? am i on the wrong track? if there is antyhing else new in playing these AVI movies in top quality let me know people. Also i am still playing standard definition stuff, no HD needed so far for me. thanks a lot, take care everyone.:)

Yes, they are still valid for LCDs as well.
Though you might want to play around a bit with the color "levels" and brightness, to set a good white/black balance - as that will depend on your LCD.
But keep in mind some LCDs have dynamic contrast/brightness adjustments, so they'll change if you display a very dark scene, or a very bright scene - which might make it hard to calibrate.
