Nero Recode2 And N95!!!

excuse me...I have a problem with nero recode 2...I want convert my movie in h264/aac with nero recode 2 using a custom resolution(for example 400x300)to watch movie in phone and also in tv with n95 tv out!unique profile that generate a n95 compatible file and in which I can choose 400x300 resolution is apple ipod 5.5 g avc but in this profile I can't set audio aac HE(but only LC...I want HE because also in 32 kbit/s it is very good!)...in standard nero digital avc profile I can choose a custom resolution and can set HE aac but it generate an incompatible file on my n95..other profiles(mobile-portable avc) have a limited resolution and I can't set 400x300!!..I want a profile similar to ipod 5.5g avc in which I can set audio aac HE!!!thanks

The Nokia N95 only support 320x240 with H.264/AVC, AFAIK. With MPEG 4 a resolution up to 640x480 is supported.

You want both the video specs and the HE-AAC audio, but Nero Recode will not give them to you at the same time. This is because the iPod does not accept HE-AAC audio and actually Nero is doing you a favor by preventing an error. However, if you're sure your phone will accept this combination, then no problem. Here's a solution:

Just encode with the iPod video specs you want regardless of the audio. Put any audio it will let you put in there for now. Result: Video1

Then re-encode the source with video specs that accept HE-AAC. (You'd be better off encoding with very fast video specs here:very low rez and framerate, because you're only doing this for the audio.) Result: Video2

Now use YAMB and mp4box and:
-Extract the video from Video1
-Extract the audio from Video2
-Mux the video from Video1 and the audio from Video2 into a new mp4 file, and voila, now you have both in the same file.

For what it's worth I use 320x240 or 320x176 (sometimes I'll crop and find a resolution between those for widescreen stuff) which is the native resolution (so avoids any rescaling). I've been using CRF20 and for the most part it looks pretty awesome. I've also been using LC-AAC (because then if I wanted to put the encode on iPod, it would work there too in theory), and muxing with MP4Box.

No problems at all, and quality is great.

I disabled features to give me a baseline encode, and I haven't checked to see if the N95 does support any Main profile features.

Profile for N95 is a good idea cause of its TV-out etc. Though I'm not sure how it does 400x300 AVC with AAC-HE, since HE takes more power to decode than LC.
I have suggested specific profiles for new smartphones, but it needs testing what they are capable of decoding.

Or is the command line audio encoder the only way to do a 2 pass audio encode? If this is the case, is 2 pass audio encoding a planned feature for recode ?

Because now I always re-encode the audio with the cli encoder separately in 2 passes and remux it with the video manually. Just wanting to know if recode already does this, so I won't waste my time anymore :)

in an italian forum me and others users have doing test to get an optimal quality of video on n95 and tv out...in n95 32 kbit/s HE audio works very very very good!!!
tomorrow or friday i will post final test ;) (better setting to excecute only in n95 and better setting to excecute in both n95 and tv out)
this is a movie converted with nero recode..resolution 320x240,audio aac he 32 kbit/s 32000 hz,video bitrate 199,7...test it on n95(not in PC!!!)

Yes, you need cli for 2pass audio. Recode does only 1pass audio. 2pass audio for Recode may happen, but it's not decided at least yet.

Thanks a lot. I forward your findings and request. N95 seems to be highly popular phone, and especially interesting for video playback because of TV-out, so hopefully such profile will be created.
Does the non-tv-out setting look better in the phone screen regardless of lesser reso and bitrate? Scaling the higher settings to n95 screen resolution is not as good?

better resolution is 320x240(not very good for tv out) for watch in only n95 and 400x296 for watch in both n95 and tv-out...lower resolution in both cases produced a not very good watch as 320x240(perfect for watching in only n95!) and 400x296 for those cases...in tv-out mode higher resolution than 400x296 and higher audio bitrate than 32 kbit/s will be produce an async movie ( i tryed for esample 450x336 but video has problem because n95 h264 decoding is insufficient to decode a 450x336 h264 movie..then I tryed also 400x296 and audio 56 or 64 kbit/s but n95 aac/h264 decoding ON MEMORY CARD is insufficient too...n95 can decoding 400x296(good in tv out) h264 audio aac 32 and for this reason i choosed aac HE because it produce a very impressive quality at lower bitrate and on n95 and tv out I don't hear significantly differences with higher audio bitrate!so the best setting for n95 are 320x240 for watch in n95 only and 400x296 for watch in n95 and tv-out and in both cases audio 32 kbit/s HE not LC)...for video bitrate it depends from original movie..for this reason I choose high bitrate for video (for example in a 700 mb original divx movie I must choose an higher bitrate than a dvd original movie)..so video bitrate you can set in a better manner than my suggested,but resolution and audio bitrate must be as my settings to avoid async!changing video bitrate don't produce async,but a different resolution and audio bitrate could cause async!) ;)

There's a few options:
- use a player which can override the aspect ratio and display in 4:3 (distorted proportions)
- use a player which can zoom-in (you will lose lots of the picture)
- change the already encoded widescreen movie stream, so that aspect ratio will be 4:3 (distorted proportions)
- crop pixels before encoding from sides until you can have 4:3 with square pixels (keeps proportions, but you lose lots of the picture)
- find a pan&scan version of the movie (pixels already cropped in "intelligent" way following the motion/main target, still you lose lots of the picture)

Personally if I wouldn't get a pan&scan source, I'd just watch with black borders and with correct picture proportions seeing the whole picture.

Did somebody noticed on a mp4, using the Nokia N95, that the colors are kind of saturated?
I did a backup of Ocean's 13 for my N95 (resized: 320x...) with MeGUI (h.264/aac) and the colors looked very intensified...
I think it's the Real Player, isn't it?
