View Full Version : MPC drops frames etc. unless it's rendering to overlay

Hi.
Lately I've had some minor annoyances with MPC.
- I get mouse lag when opening video-files.
- I also ocationally drop frames for about a second, independent of how intense the video is(Cell-phones 3gp to 1080P h.264)
I use DirectX-rendering in WMP and OpenGL in VLC. Neither of those have any problems(same files)
This only happens if i output to anything other then overlay.
Could this have something to do with the AVIVO-part of my GPU acting up?, or am i completely wrong?

Upgrade your PC? AVIVO (or gpu acceleration) will only work under very strict circumstances.

Upgrade your PC?
Core2 e4300 @ 3GHz
2 GB DDR2 333MHz
It's plenty fast at playing video. It's just MPC that's bugging me. I was just wondering what MPC does differently to MPlayer, WMP, VLC that would make it behave like this.
In case it is of any help, here's my mplayerc.ini

MPC's been doing this since I upgraded to cat 6.5 or so, another symptom is that in VMR9 any right-clicks will make the whole system (mouse, menus, etc) stutter like crazy. For me, Casimir's mod totally fixed it. (WMP normally uses VMR7 and ogl isn't affected at all.)

I've tried Casimirs mod. It didn't help. WMR7 works flawlessly, but WMR9 or haali is still the same way. Do you think it would help re-installing Catalyst?

Have similar problem here with MPC/VMR9/Nvidia combo.
Try Casimir's build with EVR. Smooth as silk.

I'm a bit reluctant to install .net3.

I'm a bit reluctant to install .net3.
Why? You can install all versions of .NET in parallel, and .NET 3 isn't even a major change like 1 -> 2 was but rather some extra stuff piled on top of .NET 2 - they really should have called it .NET 2.5 at most.
Of course, why the EVR renderer for XP has to be part of .NET 3 I'll probably never know...

Don't think you need to. Only a couple of files needed.

It didn't really help, so I'm back to WMR7(and got rid of .NET 3.0).
My reluctance towards .NET is basically that 1.1 and 2.0 are currently taking up almost one third of the used space on my C: drive. It's a mammoth of a runtime, and i didn't want to make it ever fatter :P

*boggle*
My Microsoft.NET folder is 300MB, with 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0 + Managed DirectX; can't say it makes much of a dent into my 60GB C: partition... :D

My entire C: drive is 3GB, total use: 0,99GB
300MB for a runtime that i only use for 3RVX(3MB app) is really a bit stupid, but hey I'm addicted to 3RVX for my volume-monitoring needs.

you have Core2 e4300 @ 3GHz, 2 GB DDR2 333MHz and a 3GB HDD?
Since 3GB HDDs don't exist anyway, get gparted or partitionmagik and expand it...
Partitions is so a linux thing ;)

Ugh... even half of Neverwinter Nights 2 or Jade Empire wouldn't fit on that partition...
That, and all the various stuff I've got installed for developing C/C#/C++ and Java uses over 7GB total...
Well, nobody's forcing you to enlarge your system partition, but still... why?!? :D

Sure... who else but Linux users would want to reformat their system partition and still have their data safe? ;)

What about we get back on topic? That is unless my problem is unsolvable, and you want an explanation of my setup.

I have some ideas to check to see if anything changes
1 check to make sure that mpc is *not* running at higher than normal priority - and also check that your filter chain isn't running at anything other than default priority.
2 any updated video drivers available? or try reinstalling the same one to cause ur video driver settings to revert to default
3 try haali's renderer as an alternative to both evr and vmr
