Can anyone explain why when I use VMR9 renderless in MPC I get a grey bar below the picture? Using Haali renderer I don't see this grey bar. See screen shots below.

because vmr9 sucks, it has a problem with the luma levels or something.

Do you have an nvidia? On those, it can be fixed by following these instructions: http://forum.inmatrix.com/index.php?showtopic=5661
ATI and Intel users are stuck with fixing in ffdshow or using another renderer (I don't think EVR has the same problem).

So since I have an ATI video card I'm stuck in ffdshow or using Haali? What is the fix in ffdshow? What cause this problem?

The workaround in ffdshow would be, to let ffdshow put out RGB instead of YUV.
Go to the "Output" site and uncheck every colorspace, except RGBxx.

Since few catalyst version, this problem seems to be fixed.
try to update your driver.

Well, it was working correctly for me for a few 6.x releases, hasn't since then. I think it's also card-dependant, so you might get lucky. The release notes haven't mentioned anything about video playback in a while though. =\
BTW, besides the RGB trick, you can also use levels (16/240->0/255 with fullscale checked), but RGB leads to less banding.

I don't know if it makes any difference but I'm using a 9800pro with Cat 6.9 drivers.
