so i am finding that for some reason i cannot seem to rip a dvd file on xmpeg, be it divx or mpg or avi or any other format, more than about 30,000kb. at high video settings, this means i am limited to like 30-45 secs of video, which is annoying, b/c it forces me to chop a scene up into little portions.
i have messed around with the settings in xmpeg, but nothing seems to fix this.
can anyone give me a solution or good advice here?
thanks.

You might want to try something a little newer. xmpeg is pretty much a dinosaur compared to modern all in one apps like AutoGK, MeGUI, StaxRip etc...

thanks- are all these you mention equally good, or would 1 be better than the rest?

Give it a shot, you will like it. Its not exactly "all in one". You need to use DGindex first and then Megui.
Find more about DGindex here (http://neuron2.net/dgmpgdec/dgmpgdec.html) and Megui here (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=156112)

Try MPEG Mediator, it's similar to Xmpeg.
