Hi everyone,

I've converted a MKV file to H264 using Megui. I've done this lots of times, and never had a problem.

I use the CE-MainProfile which I created for the 360, and it works fine, either streaming the file using TVersity or burning to DVD.

Now, I've tried converting a file, and it simply won't play on the 360. I get a message saying "69-04-COOD36C4" or similar. This occurs whether I try and stream it or play from a DVD-R.

I then converted the file to a smaller file size (1gb rather than 4gb), and this works.

I've attached G-Spot shots from the

4GB File

1GB File

Can anyone see why the 4gb file won't play?

Interestingly, I tried splitting the 4GB file (using YAMB) into 3 equal sized parts. Parts 1&2 wouldn't play, but part 3 would...

Like Sony and Apple, Microsoft insists on putting artificial limits on its decoder. The 360 will not play mp4s over 4GB. It's on their site somewhere. It also has to conform to High Profile 4.1 or below. Maybe when you split the file, it breaks something.

If it isn't obvious, Microsoft wants you to encode to WMV format if you intend to view it on the 360. Everything else is not guaranteed to play.

do the parts 1&2 play in software players?

Yes, they play fine.

Also I'm aware of the 4GB limit, hence me splitting the files. And the profile I use for (re)encoding is suitable for playback on the 360.
