Playing SVCD on Philips standalone

My Philips 725 plays SVCDs made with TMPG easily, but those I have made with DVD2SVCD do not run. The MPG file is OK as burning that seperately with Nero (i.e. not using the bin/cue files) works. But I would like the chapters..
Any tips?

Don't burn the MPG file, rather burn the CD-Images made by VCDXBuild (the bin/cue files). For this I always use Fireburner (http://www.fireburner.com)

I have tried the bin/cue files with cdrdao and vcdeasy, but the resulting disks, although playing fine on the computer, do not on the Philips. I am about to try the most recent nero to burn bin/cue, and failing this will try fireburner.
I have only done one movie so far with DVD2SVCD, and it certainly looks good, but the 2 files are slightly too big. Not a big issue as I can overburn. Is this common?

If your images are to big, just selcet a smaller CD-size in the bitrate tab. You can enter a value instead of using the pulldown-menu. I use 795MB to prevent overburning.

I have doen a few more tests:
Nero 5.5.6.4 will not burn the Bin/Cue files. Not sure why, I can usually overburn with ease.
Fireburner makes an SVCD that will play on the computer (PowerDVD XP) but the chapter function does not work, but the disk will not play on the Philips.
So I am beginning to think that the Philips 725 does not like the SVCDs that DVD2SVCD produces?
In know that there are many models made by Philips, but most share the same firmware.
Question: Anyone got these SVCDs to play on a Philips standalone? If so, do the chapters work? And which model of player and firmware do you have?

I own a philips standalone DVD player (type 701). With this player I can view SVCD created with DVD2SVCD (4 pass vbr - 48 Khz sound)
I'm wondering how I can see which firmware I have ?? Can you tell me how to check this ??
Cheers

Go to setup, and move down to the last option (language I think) then arrow right..it should show a number. My 725 has firmware 9.28, the most recent I could find. Upgrading is by burning a CD with the files on it, it takes 5 minutes.
There seems to be only 2-3 different firmwares for all the Philips DVD players.

I'll try that. Do you have an URL or site were these firmwares can be obtained. It would be nice if my firmware is old or problematic to upgrade it.
Will get back to you :p

I tried to find the version of the firmware in the setup of the DVD player but no firmware kind of number appeared. I didn't look in the manual, but i'm pretty sure it's not in there
any suggestions ?

Not sure how you'll find your own firmware version.

i have no problem burning the .cue .bin files with nero... just choose burn image and select the .cue... not sure why you would be having a problem. i also have a philips DVD701 and it plays everything i can give it... even if i go over 3000 bitrate. but not by too much :) also the 48 Khz is no prob either. GOOD LUCK! :D
