Hi

I have an AMD Sempron 3400+, 2GB and SATA2 drives, running winXP.
And just upgraded from Nvidia 6200 128MB TC to Nvidia 8600GTS 256MB.

I installed the latest driver (and extra power). But no improvement with HD-DVD play back. It's still a bit jerkey.
I have tried PDVD 6.5 and 7.3.

Does anybody have a clue about what I'm doing wrong?

regards qub

I mention this only because your post doesn't specifically mention it and if you don't know about this, it could make a big difference. PowerDVD has a configuration option (off by default) that turns on hardware acceleration. If you don't have this turned on, it could be why you are seeing what you are seeing. Hardware acceleration uses your video card as much as possible to decode and play video and it makes a huge difference in playback on PowerDVD.

Current XP drivers for the 8600 have no acceleration, so it's no surprise a Sempron can't cope.

thanks alot.

I guess it's time to switch to vista.

Shouldn't be too long for XP drivers - they were promised for June, and betas are out that work (although a lot of people say they're completely unstable so I wouldn't touch em).

Hi Arfster

do you have a link for the beta? I couldn't find them.

Hmmm... I read that XP actually has HW acceleration with 8500/8600 series and latest Forceware. PowerDVD 7.3 latest build can do the job as far as I know. :)

yes. I found v. 165.01, which is very beta. It crashes the machine sometimes.
