Hi!All I have to do is just click on __.avi movie once and pc restarts.
there are no viruses on my pcHowever, it sounds like the effect of the "Sasser" worm...

On the other hand, try performing a "System Restore" back to the last time things were working properly.

Im afraid u are all wrong. It was to do with the K-lite codec pack.

When I re-installed it ,this paticular avi file started playing again without any error. When I checked its created codec header it
said "DX50" ,some type of Divx. Also ffdshow has something to do
with it. I'm still learning what codecs effect different file types.

Well, you do have a badly broken sound or video driver (though it could possibly be almost any driver), or an overheating system, and you really need to get to the bottom of what's making the system crash. Applications alone can't do that. That way you might prevent the next round of crashes over some new game or video or codec, whatever.

Before you will be able to confirm those trying to help you as "all wrong" -- you will need to eliminate intermittent hardware problems as a possible cause. See http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=54130 and run both standard hardware tests as well as stress tests while monitoring hardware sensors.

Good points all round. If you determine your hardware is solid, then definitely reformat. It sounds like your Windows is shot to hell pretty badly :) Don't waste time troubleshooting software issues like this, just move over your data to an external or secondary drive, and nuke your Windows drive.. then rebuild, and stay away from codec packs!!! ffdshow, a directshow media player like media player classic, matroska splitter, and ac3filter is all you really need IMO. QuickTime and RealPlayer (or the alternatives if you're nefarious) can be added as necessary.

Or just VLC / MPlayer, and skip all that DirectShow silliness :D
