View Full Version : Distorted Audio

When capturing with VirtualDub I get real good video quality from VHS tapes. However, after encoding and burning the DVD, I note that loud audio passages sound distorted. On soft or lower audio it seems OK.

I obtain the audio with the ATI capture card connected to the audio line input on the sound card. I have adjusted (lowered) the volume on the line input, but it still does this.

Can this be corrected?

I've found that some audio inputs have to be put right down to 0 to record at the right (line) level. If 0 mutes it, you can knock it up a single notch with the up arrow key.

In Virtualdub capture mode, start your VHS (to get signal) and hit V to display volume meters. Then choose Audio - Windows Mixer from menu and adjust volume/balance to see volume meters topping (red lines) at about -1dB.

This seemed to work the best. Thanks for the tip.
