View Full Version : Question about reigion specific dvds

Hi all, I recently moved from the states to Europe, and sure enough, none of my DVD's work. I tried to rip a few dvd's and then reburn them with the Europe reigion code (2 I believe), but when I do that and plop the dvd into the dvd player I get a screen (one that is loaded from the dvd, because it changes depending on which studio released it) saying "Sorry, but this dvd is not coded for this region" (or something to that effect). Is there anyway to get around this? It's irritating to have brought numerous box sets of US TV shows (knowing that they wouldn't be on here), and still not be able to watch them.
If there is already a guide around the net for this, and you know of it, just paste a link here. otherwise any explanation of how to do this would be appreciated. Thanks

use dvdshrink and make it region free or change to region 2.
you could buy a region free (or switchable) SAP. guess you did
buy one and its just a region 2 player. maybe you can switch
region codes with it. some players can do that if you enter a code
via remote controll.
sorry, cant help more..
oh and welcome to eurotrash :/ lol
ps: btw. german region code 2 isnt the same as UK region code 2. just FYI.

I changed it to region 2, but the DVD (it is something on the DVD's themselves, not in the firmware of the player) has some extra protection on it, so that When it recognizes that its Region 2, and supposed to be region 1, it brings up a screen (once again, it changes depending on which studio made the disc) saying something like "This dvd is not supposed to be played in this region" a.k.a. some software on the dvd recognizes that the region is different then when it was first made.
p.s. what is the difference between UK region 2 and German region 2?
p.p.s. I used DVD shrink to do this, and I got the error of "This dvd is not supposed to be played in this region"

i guess thats the RCE protection introduced by sony back in 2000.
charlies angels were one of the first dvds to have it IIRC.
it was made against code free players. :/
i made myself a codefree dvd with dvdshrink and it played a original code 1 disc in a code 2 player. maybe try that :)
the german dvds just arent the same as the UK ones. there are
german dvds like e.g. Studio 54 that are only german, no original english audio track.
there are german dvds like "the jackal" which you cant watch
in english without german subtitles. most of all, they dont put
it onto the cover, so you never know what you get. thats one
of the main reasons why i dont purchase any dvds anymore.
then of course all the crap arse cutting they do. god forbid, theres
some gore in a movie. the tards released blade on dvd and my
friend bought it. it was heavily cut. three weeks later he sees
a new version in the store and this one is rated 18 (you have to be 18 to buy it).
the one he bought was rated 16, but in the theatres, the uncut
movie was rated 16.
Just some thoughts,
What is the brand/type of your SAP ?
Lot's of devices have "secret" codes to make the player itself region free !
Look what I found on the hardware forum !
Most players have some kind of trick or hack to set them region free. Before buying, be sure to look up your model in the VideoHelp Database: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.
I edited the post a bit (I took out the "rock" LOL) just look at the end of the first post under "Region Free support" overhere:

Hope this helps.....
