suggestions for subtitles in MP4

OK I'm about to pull out what's left of my hair after several months of trying to figure out how to work with subtitles. I am using MeGUI and I have great success with it and x264. But I am struggling to figure out how to remove subtitles from the VOB's, how to distinguish the differences between the different subtitle streams and then how to insert them into the MP4's I am making with MeGUI. Here is an example. I tried to find only the forced subtitles in Star Wars Attack of the Clones with subrip by selecting forced only and I never came up with anything. But I know that there are forced subs in the movie. So I am just looking for some suggestions about how to get the subtitles out of the movie and how to distinguish between the different streams. What are some relatively simple methods of doing this? Or are there any good guides I could follow?
