Under Windows you can use Overlay and OpenGL renderer with MPlayer. No VMR7, VMR9 or EVR support so far...
I like Haali's render much more than VMR7/9, so if Haali would make a renderer for MPlayer would be great.
But I don't have much hope this will ever happen :)

It may not be possible to connect directshow renderers without some modifications of mplayer for windows. And it also seems to be impossible to make haali's renderer compatible with mplayer as it is based upon direct3d which has no relation to mplayer.
ps. Overlay output of mplayer for windows is not a overlay renderer in directshow. It just uses directdraw.

I'm aware of all that. But (in theory) it should be possible to take Haali's code and change it's interface from DirectShow to whatever interface MPlayer uses internally for it's various renderers. Of course I don't think we will see that happen ...

Mostly due to lack of Haali's code, I guess... :)

Actually I have some old source somewhere.
Hmm, from Sunday, 29 January 2006.
