View Full Version : Cover up\Remove hard subtitles in MPEG2?
I have an MPEG2 video file that has hard subtitles , the good news is the video is letterbox and the subtitles all are in the lower black bar but not sure if I can cover them up in MPEG2 file? I could only find solution to AVI files using VirtualDub.

You can use program like TMPEnc Source Creator to trim away the black bars.
Won't that cause the aspect ratio to go off?
I still want the video to be letterbox because I am going to add my own subtitles.
Well I kind of figured out how to do it, not sure if there is an easier way.
In Canopus Procoder I tested a small segment & cropped out the bottom section which removed the subs but the video was then shifted down, so I simply re-encoded again this time cropping up and no subs!

AviSynth's Letterbox command:

or, alternatively, Crop (or CropBottom) followed by AddBorders:
