I don't see any Blu-Ray/HD DVD player FAQs on the site. I believe that I have a working image, but I need to know what software player to use or if there is even a player that works with Windows XP.
This will be my first hi-def backup if successful. I checked the web sites for PowerDVD and Intervideo WinDVD and neither mentioned DVD/BR playback in their downloadable demo versions. I don't have any clue what player to purchase.
I created the ISO from my original Pirates of the Caribbean Blu-Ray disc on a PS3 game console running the Swiss Army Knife Linux kit for dumping Blu-Ray to a 500GB FAT32 external USB hard drive. Connecting the drive to a Windows XP MCE 2005 machine, I used the command "COPY /B Blu-Ray.a? F:\Blu-Ray.iso" where F:\ is an empty 120GB NTFS partition on another external hard drive. The files all copied in the correct order:
Blu-Ray.aa
Blu-Ray.ab
Blu-Ray.ac
Blu-Ray.ad
Blu-Ray.ae
Blu-Ray.af
Blu-Ray.ag
Blu-Ray.ah
Blu-Ray.ai
Blu-Ray.aj
Blu-Ray.ak
Blu-Ray.al
Blu-Ray.am
Blu-Ray.an
...resulting in the single concatenated "Blu-Ray.iso" file.
I understand that I need have AnyDVD HD installed, so I installed the latest demo version last night and mounted the ISO with Nero7 ImageDrive (done). I do have Daemon-Tools installed, but I hear it does not yet support image files for the HD formats, so I disabled all virtual drives in Daemon-Tools before installing AnyDVD HD.
Windows XP MCE 2005 cannot read the file system.
-Is there a software player for Blu-Ray? I recall a while back that there was not.
-Do current software players require Windows Vista?
-If so, do software products such as Slysoft AnyDVD HD work around these DRM limitations?
I have HDCP-capable LCD displays if required, but I'm pretty sure that my EVGA/NVIDIA 7800GS AGP is not HDCP-compliant.
Missing:
Windows Vista
Software BD player
HDCP-compliant video card
At my disposal, I currently have the following...
HDCP displays:
Sony KDL-52XBR2 1920x1080 16:9 LCD television (HDMI)
Sony KV-30XBR910 1080i 16:9 CRT television (DVI)
Dell 2007WFP 1680x1050 16:10 LCD display (DVI)
Samsung 225BW 1680x1050 16:10 LCD display (DVI)
Other displays:
Dell 2005FPW 1680x1050 16:10 LCD (DVI)
Starlogic 20" 1680x1050 16:10 LCD (DVI) (not sure about HDCP)
Blu-Ray Reader/Player:
Sony Playstation 3 60GB w/HDMI cable
I have more HDMI and DVI adapters than I know what to do with, so I'm flexible.
