Maybe look to chkdsk your comp first and try clean-up any windows issues first.

Without specifying what program you used, this is of course a shot in the dark, but if i re-interpret you "unuseful" as "unsuccessful" (it doesn't make sense to me otherwise, sorry) it sounds a bit like a DVD copy program that cannot copy CSS-encrypted DVDs - that means it will not work with like 99% of the commercial video DVDs, but such software exists (especially from large companies that try to sell something people want, but then cannot afford to be affiliated with copyright violations or similar).
