View Full Version : Green screen on playback!

I've needed to install Quicktime and having done so I started getting green screens on playback (seems to be a widespread problem!). I tried uninstalling all my codecs as recommended on another forum, and installing 3ivx. For a start, I couldn't uninstall all the codecs (they appeared to, but didn't). Also, I'm still getting green screens with Quicktime and other players - even with 3ivx.
How do I clean all my codecs out and start again with something that works, please?
(I've got a Nvidia FX5200 card)

Hi!
Have you tried uninstalling Quicktime - to determine whether it is, in fact, the cause of your problem?
BTW - Is it simply the free player or a purchased version of Quicktime Pro?
Sound like you're just missing a codec. Download a tool like "gspot" and find out what codec the video uses. Reinstall this codec and you'll be fine !
Let me know how it goes....

Thanks for the replies.
I downloaded Gspot and it told me I didn't need a codec for the Quicktime mov files. It also says that some of the other H264 files I have that don't play, have the codec installed! As I uninstalled all the codecs I was able to, the divx and xvid files,as expected, won't play.
If I right-click on a quicktime mov file and ask it to play with quicktime, it works - but this isn't an option because the files I want to play, are on a DVD training disk for Photoshop.
I'd really love to rip all the codecs out and start again with known good ones, but I've removed all the ones that are removable.

I've checked files with both gspot and videoinspector. Gspot seems to be reporting some codecs as installed, whereas videoinspector says they're not!

OK - it seems graphics card driver related (Nvidia FX5200). I've installed the latest driver, but it makes no difference. If I disable the driver and let the display revert to the default Windows, the files play OK. The Xvid and Divx files will also play on Windows Media Player, even though gspot and videoinspector say there aren't codecs installed. (Wish I knew more about video!)

Since your primary concern appears to be playback, installing the FFDShow filter should handle virtually any format you throw at it...

Does ffdshow integrate with Quicktime? Because I'm viewing a training DVD that uses Quicktime, I don't have the option of using a separate stand-alone player (I already have the vlc player).
