Finally got around to using DVD2SVCD (used to be one of those 'do eeverything by hand' users) and find it is indeed quite powerful. It also finally allowed me to mux in non-permanent subtitles for my standalone. (I actually also like the intro and 'Change CD' picture).

However, I'd love to use SUBMUX standalone as well. I see that DVD2SVCD extracts the subtitles and generates the script file. Is there any way to let it do just that?

Not that I know of becuase DVD2SVCD extracts the subs at the start of its operation, but doesnt create the .sub files until the submux executes (after audio/video encoding). But I have outlined a method using SubRip and submux in a reply to this thread (http://rilanparty.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12268) (post 12 I think).
