View Full Version : LAVF integration with FFDShow?

Has libavformats integration ever been considered for addition into FFDShow? Undoubtedly, this would make an already great directshow filter even better. It'd be nice to have an all-in-one splitter to complement the all-in-one decoder that is FFDShow. Maybe a good idea for the new FFDShow-tryouts project? Thoughts?

I've mentioned it several times, but it's been swatted by the developers so many times I don't bother anymore. ;)

Well, anyway, with FFDShow-tryouts, we have a new batch of developers to bug with it, so we'll see what happens.

Well, it's those developers who've nixed the idea, not just Milan. =p A FFSplitter project would have to be separate at this point, or a fork, just because there's not much interest. After all, Haali's and Gabest's splitters work for the vast majority of formats now, only things like game videos and obscure audio formats are out of luck.

What I never understand with those requests is why everybody wants to also cram all kinds of stuff into ffdshow just because it's somehow related to decoding video - this is DirectShow, after all, so stuff works just as well on it's own, in a separate filter...

It's not as if ffdshow as de-/encoder isn't complex enough on it's own, and it's not like everyone interested in libavformat as a splitter filter is going to want to install ffdshow along with it...

What's up next, ffdshow the video renderer? ffdshow the TV card driver? ffdshow the media player? ffdshow the flame thrower? ffdshow the Kitchen Sink(TM)? :D

(I would have said ffdshow the operating system, but you have to draw the line somewhere...)

:stupid:

It should be a separate project.
