I have found a VOB->Mpg program that would probably work great on movies that I only want to store the Main Movie. However, sometimes I may want to store the whole movie. Normally I would just use ISO's, but windows media center or vista will not support ISO playback.

I cant find a plug-in for Windows Media Center and Vista that will list ISO's as video files, only to mount them using DVDDeamon or Alchool. If such a plug-in exists, that would be great.

Usually people recommend using WMplayer Classic or one of the open source video playback programs however this isnt a good solution since it would require a keyboard and some work on selecting and play back of movies. I want simple click and play of these files within media center, and using the media center interface. Reason is that this integrates well into Media Center, and Media Center does an amazing job at controlling the Screan Saver needed for Plasma TV's. For example Pause or Stop enables the Screan Saver and disables it when playing.

Therefor I am left with 2 options. 1 is to simply encode the movie using VOB2MPG, and the other is to use DIVX or another codex to recompile the disc.

I am not totally familiar with the DivX encoder or what and how it works, nor am I familiar with the quality of the resulting files. Does DivX do a good job at this without Audio delay issues, and while maintaining the original DVD menus and extras?

What is the best Mpeg4 solution available considering that I have the budget to buy a commercial solution?

Is there any other options that will support Vista and will also fully integrate into Windows Media Center?

Thanks
Mike

What is the best Mpeg4 solution available considering that I have the budget to buy a commercial solution? You can't ask what's best per forum rule 12. If you edit it fast you might get away with not being struck.

Also, this has nothing to do with DGIndex or DVD2AVI, so I'm moving it out of here.

Ok, if Im not suppose to ask whats best, then can I ask if my statements above are correct?

What formats and programs will convert a collection of VOB's to a avi or other playback codex Dependant standard which will also include the menus and extras without time delays on the sound track that often occur when you convert these files?

What standards and programs do a good job at image encoding?

According to Doom9's Codec Shootouts for three years running, Xvid has been the most efficient MPEG-4 ASP codec. I can say that, right? Just stating a fact.

dvdx (http://www.labdv.com/dvdx/) might be what you're looking for.
