I want to make an audio-dvd and use winamp's visualizations for the video instead of just a black screen. Is it possible to somehow record the visualizations off Winamp?

Screen-capture program?

Screen-capture program?

I was thinking that but I remember using HyperCam once before and those applications struggle capturing at frame rates like 24 or 30fps... I've only ever been able to get around 10fps choppy video. Also looking for a freeware solution...

Doesnt winamp have a plug-in for that already?

and just out of curiosity which visualization?

I'll have to check Winamp's site to see if there is a plug-in that can allow export like that.

I actually haven't played around with the visualizations for a long time. I was just going to use some of the built-in ones.

if those visualizations are made with open-gl then maybe fraps can snag it :)

else, maybe the tools mentioned in this topic help:

I was trying for a couple of weeks to get a capture of a winamp vis. But no dice. It was for an assignment.

While I've finished that course, if you find a way let us know. I'm curious.

I did it by plugging the S-Video out on my LapTop into my Hauppauge PVR USB2.

Milkdrop: FRAPS or some other fast screencapture program. AVS: No chance at high resolutions unless you got dual-core!

Wow, it really is that simple. I never even thought of that. By the way guys, I tried using screencapturing programs and could never get them to work. It wouldn't capture the vis and or crash winamp.

Yeah, failed to mention it but I capture on the laptop too. If you have the Capture program dislaying in the captured area it adds some interesting 'video feedback' into the picture...

If you are trying to capture video from the AVS visualisation system, have a look at the avs2avi plugin made by unconed for it. It's basically a vfw compressor.

check, it appears that plugin by unconed isn't being made any more. The link is re-directed (http://avs.acko.net/) also.

Have you tried looking in the Winamp Forums at the AVS FAQ?

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=82567
Question #12: How can I capture the output of AVS as a video/movie file?

AVS doesn't have this function built-in, but there are currently 2 APEs (AVS plug-in effects, see Question #5) that can capture the video of AVS to an .AVI file. After inserting one them at the end of the preset you want to capture, you can configure and control it through the component's configuration dialog (on the right hand side).
Note that these will only allow you to capture one preset at a time and will not capture transitions. If you have a problem with one of these, you should probably contact the author of the APE rather than posting your question in these forums.

UnConeD's link should now be: http://acko.net/design/avs. And the second one now gives a 404.
