Hi Guys,

I have old Socket A Sempron based PC lying with me, I'm thinking of converting it to HTPC w/ Linux...

The Main Priority here is I should get good image quality and low CPU usage as CPU isn't powerful enough, it stuters with HD Xvid Rips in Windows...

I know there's VLC for Linux, but somehow it didn't appeal much(atleast in Windows), it absolutely is blown away by in features & image quality by KMPlayer...
So was wondering if there is anything as good as KMPlayer in Linux...

Also there are some dedicated MCE distro's in Linux..like geexbox, movix, videolinux, etc...are these any good/ worth trying...pls let me know..

could you kindly elaborate on what KMPlayer can do that VLC can't?
As far as image quality - don't they use pretty much the same decoder base (derived from ffmpeg) so why would the quality be so much better on one player vs. the other?
Finally, did you manage to play on-line mov trailers with KMPlayer? It crashes for me after about 1min of play.

^^Lol, i knew someone would say that but unfortunenately, it was the only thing said :(

But anyways, just try this, in the options(obtained by right clicking on video), goto video advanced and select preset as Quality and you'll the see the difference I'm talkin about, its got so many filters/ video enhancements built in and applying them, dosen't take any skill/knowledge...ofcourse you'll need a Medium-High End Rig for that though..
Also Subtitle Features like HQ Subtitles with customized alignement/size/transperency and FPS Changer, etc absolutely rock and are so easy to apply..

I wonder if you could do any of this in VLC, and i'm pretty sure even if you manage, it would take a lot of study/research/knowledge...

As far as your problem is concerned, I don't know about that, 'cause I don't play online mov trailers, However I suggest, you should report the problem at KMplayer forums, they are pretty good in replying...
