View Full Version : Differences between iPOD 5.0 and iPOD 5.5 profiles?
Are there any real differences between these two? I know that the quantitizer is higher or something and that with 5.5, you're allowed a maximum of 640x480 instead of 320x240 pixels.
But are there any other differences?
Ponder if I were to encode a video file from the same source in 382x176 with both profiles. Would the output file differ in any way?

This best describes the differences

Yeah, ponder that I encode a video file with the same resolution and same bitrate in both profiles.
Would there be any actual difference? That's what I want to know, really. I know general differences between the two.

The only difference between the capabilities with regards to AVC content is that the previous limitiation was baseline - level 1.3 with max res at 320x240 and bitrate 768. Now, the 5.5 ipod can do baseline - level 3 with max res of 640x480 and bitrate up to 1500 kbps. But, when the larger resolutions seem to work better if deblocking and the analyze functions are turned off in the encoder.
Yes, but what the heck does baseline mean?
