Does anyone know what the industry (commercial) standard is for the following setting in DVD-Lab, when creating a 6:9 menu & movie?
Widescreen movie display on 4:3:
1. Automatic - Set By Player
2. Letterbox
3. Pan & Scan
I'm guessing (1) but I'd be grateful for any suggestions...

For movies, I think it's normally (2) - even if the player is set up to display 16:9 as pan & scan, no-one ever bothers putting int he "vectors" (?) that tell the player which bit of the widescreren picture should be displayed, so it's better to always force it to letterboxed.

Yeah, I would go for letterbox too. That will produce black bars on 4:3 TV sets by default.
PS: you could always switch to Pan&Scan in your player even if you set letterbox. But, as stated above by Flimsy, this will do you no good as the player will dumbly cut 12,5% of the picture on each side. This is especially bad w/ 2.35:1 movies where almost half of the picture gets lost.

Hi!
I'd suggest that you use "1", as it will allow you the option of choosing from amongst your standalone player's available format settings - some people prefer having "the entire screen filled" (The frequent result of setting the player to "16:9" for a TV with a 4:3 display), even if the image is distorted...
