View Full Version : WindowsMedia AVI to MPEG using DirectShow input: TMPG eats RAM until it crashes :-(

So, hello everybody.

I have this Windows Media AVI file which every program on earth refuses opening.
I've tried lots of encoders, converters, tools without any result, escept from TMPGEnc.

Last version of VirtualDub says it'a a Windows Media AVI and it refuses to open it, so I tried that 1.3c one, but it says it's unable to open the file, reporting some 32-bit number from the AVI header.

TMPG is the only program (apart from media player) that actually succeeds in opening the file (I suppose it uses some DirectShow hack) but when I try to convert the AVI to an MPEG it's terribly slow, it eats lots of RAM in a linear fashion (120Mb, 130Mb, 140Mb...) until it eats all disk space and crashes, nearly at 4% of the file (4% = 3 minutes).

Does anybody have an idea?
Any help is appreciated!
