View Full Version : Nero 5.5.6.4 SVCD Still Image BUG ?

I wasn't entirely sure where to put this post but I hope this is the best place. I'm having trouble using nero to make still images on my svcd.
The way i arranged my cd was like this

1. Introductory still image
2. Main video track
3. A bunch of other "extra" still images.

The CD burned fine without any problems, but 2 of my images were corrupt. Now the strange thing is, they both were screwed up in exactly the same way, there was a green stripe in the bottom right, just like a corrupt jpeg. (Of course I checked my original images and they look fine in photoshop/acdsee and any other program you would care to mention.)
Also, the only two images affected were the VERY FIRST still image, then the FIRST image AFTER the video. The rest were fine. I'm not sure, but I think nero has a bug in creating the initial still image in a series of images.
I wonder if someone could confirm this problem for me? In my case I was using jpgs at 768 x 576.

PS I'm using PowerDVD to test my burns, it *might* even be a powerDVD problem. I'll try it on a proper player as soon as possible.

Well I found that the order of the images doesn't affect anything. It seems Nero just doesn't like dealing with certain jpgs. I have no idea why. I re-encoded one of my images with ACDSee and managed to get it to look normal. No success with the other one.

I've had problems with nero and still images ever since they introduced the vcd menu options (something I tried but which is quite useless.) Nero would create discs where a certain image would crash my pioneer dvd player and which windvd would choke on. I tried opening the image (created exactly the same way as others which work)in another program and resaving, etc, but some images wouldn't produce a working disc.
result: i stopped trying to put still intro's to my svcds which is a bit of a shame.

Hmm I see. Perhaps the corruption I see in PowerDVD could possibly crash a standalone player.
Anyway I did a lot of test burns to try and overcome the problem, and the best solution I seem to find is to save the jpg as a progressive jpg using ACDSee 4. Dunno why, but that fixes all the problematic files I have had so far. I also choose not to use the optimised Huffman codes, and used 100% quality. What's stranger is that saving a progressive in Photoshop doesn't work!
Give it a try, it might work for you. (BTW if you can get a copy of powerdvd, try one of your discs with a bad still image, and see if you get green blocky corruption down near the bottom right. If that's the case, you're probably getting the exact same bug as me, and using ACDSee might help.)
