Hmm,
Question.
Is there any consideration of adding say x264 in to a program like autogordian knot or a similar program for dummies that know little to nothing about video encoding?

I am one such user!. I transfer a hep of DV off my cam corder and want to encode it. At the moment I use AKG because it gives a really good result and automates a lot of the stuff I have very little clue on in one fab program.

Is there anything around that is like AGK for x264 and if not, any hope of getting the x264 supported in to AKG
I don't care if the program is different, I just like how it works for someone who has a lot to do and not a lot of knowlege in codecs muxing etc.

You can use Nero Recode to encode DV footage into MPEG4 AVC (which is what X264 is all about). It's pretty straight-forward to use, and there's a free trial at Nero.com if you're interested.
