Quite a lot of mpeg4 such as divx etc. videos that otherwise play fine with VLC and mplayer2 (with ffdshow) are either gray, or desaturated color with weird bands in WMP11. What's going on? How do I fix it? This is the case even if WMP11 is using ffdshow for decoding...

Heh, enabled Use Overlay Mixer in ffdshow and disabled YV12 and it's fine now.

This is usually a video driver issue in 99% of such reported cases. Check if there's an updated driver for your video card. If not, go ahead and report a bug to your video card manufacturer.

You might want to disable "high quality mode” in WMP.
