check write quality?

I get error when I use Nero cd dvd speed "Disc quality" tab: "Unit does not support this funcion" (translated from swedish). I use Nec 3500ag burner. I really want to know the quality of my burns. I can perform the benchmark test but not check disc quality. I have done 3 benchmark tests of the same dvd and got 3 different results. The first with 1 dip, second with 2 dips, and 3rd with perfect result...

My media is Verbatim dvd-r and I use Imgburn for burning.

I burn the audio, video_ts from external drive at 4x speed.

I also have Pioneer 111d burner that I can use instead.

Shall I change settings, burner and/or testing software to improve quality and know more about how my burns were made?

Please post at cdfreaks (optical media testing sub-forum). You'll get better replies.

Quickly:

- Nec drives since nd-3520 have supported quality scanning (via CD DVD Speed), nd-3500 is not supported
- Pioneer 111D supports quality scanning, but with caveats (and you need to edit registry to enable the feature)
