View Full Version : HD rip tools & HDCP
Am I perhaps missing something here -?
If you remove the protection using one of the tools mentioned (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=123282)... then doesn't HDCP become irrelevant?
IE, without the protection/encryption, can you not simply play the movie back as you would any other video file, without using something like Cyberlink, etc, and without being downscaled to 540p if your video card doesn't support HDCP ?

If you remove the protection you can play your movie without any restriction (on a non-HDCP capable system too).

Part of the problem is that even if you remove protection, current generation of playback software for Windows, such as WinDVD 8 JP and Cyberlink PowerDVD 6.5 - 7.3, forces your output to be 540p if you don't have HDCP. In other words, the software player manufacturers are over-zealous in their implementation.
Hope this helps.

This is not true! It's working for many people.
The problem (downsizing) happens only when you use dual link dvi connection with the screen resolution is bigger than 1920x1200.
But can't you play this stuff in MPC or VLC?
Like couldn't the TS files from an HD-DVD be demuxed and put into an MKV, and then played in media player classic or something? (no re-encoding needed)
