View Full Version : audio default issue after stripping many audio streams

I'm stripping and disabling 3 out of 7 available audio tracks (tracks #1, 3, 4) from a dvd. The dvd has two audio menus: one regular screen of all 7; and a screen list of just 3 of them with ON/OFF options. OFF means the dvd should go back to the Default audio (originally track #1, but after stripping, should be #2).
I tried 2Cool's "Stripping Non-consecutive audio" guide (strip with Shrink, adjust with Ifoedit, delete buttons in Pgcedit) and the video plays fine in the computer, but if I burn a dvd, my Dvd Player sets the default audio as the last audio 7of4, not 2of4. However, once I click on the 2of4, that seems to become the default.
I redid the stripping in Vobblanker and had same results (Ifo's in Infoedit looked the same as 2Cool results).
After stripping, I tried someone else's "Setting Default" guide by shifting the first available audio (2of4) up to the original default 1of4 position, but again, that didn't work consistently with the menues.
In Pgcedit, I tried setting a Setsn for the default =2, but the only place to put command is in the movie vtm, which means every time the main menu is called, the audio goes back to 2. Normally, going to the main menu shouldn't reset the audio, so this isn't a good fix.
I also tried shifting all the remaining audio streams up to 1of4, 2of4, etc, but then I'd have to fix the streams, and they're gprms, not an actual value, and I don't know how to figure out their contents.
Pgcedit says I should not use Shrink with "logical remapping" on. I tried it anyway, but didn't help.
I posted this at Videohelp but no replies.

If you don't need to see the stuff that appears when you insert the DVD and before you reach the main menu (usually logos, FBI warnings, previews and the menu intro), there is an easy way to pre-select your preferred stream: Jump to PGC upon DVD insert.

Use the method explained in this guide (http://download.videohelp.com/r0lZ/pgcedit/third_party/blutach/How_to_use_PgcEdit_new_macro.htm).
IMPORTANT: Before applying the Jump2PGC function, be sure to go to the audio selection menu (and the subtitle menu as well if needed) to select your preferred stream(s), and go back to the main menu. Apply the Jump2PGC function now.
After that, your DVD will start directly at the main menu, with the right streams already selected for you.

it worked! Thank you!!!
One small glitch - if I toggle the audio manually on the remote to the last audio track (7of4), it will become the default.

IMO, that's a good thing. If you select it, it's because you want it, no?

For simplicty sake, I'll refer to the now-available audio as 1,2,3,4.
On the second audio menu, which has ON/OFF options for 2,3,4, selecting OFF for any of them should set audio to #1 (the default).
But while watching the movie, if I manually toggle to #4, that becomes the menu default. That is, selecting OFF in the 2nd audio menu will set audio to #4. If I manually toggle 2 or 3, they do NOT become this default. When I toggled back to #1, it did NOT immediately become the default (it seemed to eventually, after running the menus afew times).

It seems my player would prefer the last audio to be the default. I don't know if this is relevant, but the Hex number for audio 1 and 4 were the same, so possibly that's what's confusing my dvd player?

There is no way to turn an audio stream off, except by selecting another stream. Therefore, I suppose that it's programmed like that.
However, it is also possible to erase any previous setting (with the Not Set option of SetSTN.) In this case, the player should select automatically the first stream matching your preferred audio language (selected via the player's configuration menu.)

I thought about that - maybe changing the attributes of #4 to a foreign language so my player would be less likely to select or keep it as default.
#1 is english stereo, #3 & 4 are commentaries, #4 is a music-only track designated as "unspecified".

Hum, try it, but if the player is configured to use preferably english, that will probably not help.
