Hi all,
I just bought Sammy HD 870 last night on discount promo. After finished some installation, i try to test with include HDMI cable, connect to my Acer 32 inch LCD HDTV. First everything seems good with Superman movie, but after went into Casino Royale, its always loss signal every three minute play. I am not sure this due to misconfigure in Video configuration or because this is new Sony DVD (that rumours have more complicated protection) or because HDMI cable it self. But with Miami Vice at 720p it seems quite stable and have very clear vision and sound.

Now I know where the problem is,
Auto detect in HDMI mode did not work smoothly with manual video set up in Progressive - Interlaced mode. Have to be set up at interlaced video output then can be play on 1080i smoothly. And included standard HDMI cable seems not help too much, have to use much better cables, it is very sensitive player I thought. But result from it's 14 bit 108 DAC video processor with enhanced video playback processor give very detail and clear pictures. The Immortal movie give high result during 720p and 1080i playback, almost looks like in Digital 2K Cinema.

There is one confusing,
when I insist using Progressive Scan mode, and switch HDMI mode into 1080i but using Sony PS3 HDMI ver1.3a cat2 high speed cable, this Samsung player still play very smoothly without any loss signal in Casino Royale DVD disc. I think the real problem lies in the cable quality.

Do you happen to know if that player is capable of handling xvid at more than 720x576?
It's powered by a Zoran Vaddis 888 chipset and in the product briefs it's stated that the chip can handle 720x576@25 fps or 720x480@30 fps at 10 mbit per second.
So I'm wondering what's the difficulty of handling 960x544 at a miserable 2 mbps rate?
Or 720p at relatively low rates as well

Nope,
It doesn't support High resolution over than 576p (720x576), even it does not play DivX over than 4000 bitrate, will skip some part / scene that have bitrate over 4000. So it can not play my DivX collection that record at Standard Resolution but at HiDef profile. Only Pioneer does play at 4000 up a little bit (MF5DVD and DV696AVS).
