Hi !
I would like to encode some of my movies to VC1 for HD-DVD (during my friends work i got access to "Scenarist Standard Content Authoring").
My Source has the following specs :
1280x720 progressiv at 23.976 fps
Then i converted it to 59.940fps using ChangeFPS() in AviSynth.
After encoding with WMcmd.vbs the File is accepted by scenarist.
Is this the correct way to do the Framerate Conversion ?
I guess it's not, but i didn't find the right things using the search.
Anyone who can help ?

Definitely not :)
You should be able to encode at 23.976, assuming the source is at its correct frame rate. It's a movie, right?
At that rate, it might just work. You may have to apply soft-pulldown, but that would be stupid :)

Yes it's a movie. But Scenarist isn't offering 23.976fps.

Soft Pulldown Flags are applied at the encoding stage.
23.976 Source --> 29.97 (With 3:2 Pulldown) --> Scenarist
What are you encoding your file with?

I encode my file with a slightly modded version of this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=123812).
There isn't a pulldown function in it AFAIK.

Neither WME9 nor the WMV Encoder DMO support 3:2 pulldown. You can encode 24p as 24p, but you'd need to insert the pulldown flags with an external app. I'm surprised Scenarist isn't able to do that. A lot of DVD authoring apps will accept 23.976 fps MPEG-2 program streams and insert pulldown flags into the stream during the mux process - Scenarist ought to be able to do something similar for VC-1 (and MPEG-2 for that matter).

Error O:\test2.vc1
Error : Frame rate reserved is wrong.
Error : TV System should be NTSC, PAL, HD60 or HD50
It doesn't. So no using of VC1, that's bad.

Keep in mind that the WMV9 (and I stress WMV9 here) encoder was never designed, intended or tested to be used for HD-DVD or BluRay encoding. It was designed primarily to be used for local file playback and web streaming - any additional usage that you can get out of it is pure bonus benefit due to the WMV9 codec being VC-1 compliant.
