View Full Version : x264 GUI without .Net Bloatwork???

I'm looking to replace my venerable AutoGK DivX/XviD with a newer x264 GUI which is equally friendly in terms of no-muss-no-fuss squish-to-the-size-you-select, and would like to do it without needing .Net Framework (since AutoGK worked fine without it). Anything out there do that, and which has a good 'rep?
(Also: For me, "GUI" means more than just "not DOS command-line". I.e., I shouldn't have to mess with script-strings unless I actually want to, or even know what most, or any, of them mean. I'd rather use a simple program with "generic" settings and rip a cartoon to 233mb than break my head spending a lot of time learning new arcana so I can squeeze out the same quality at 175mb.)
I'm using XPpro.

Just tell me you write all your software using plain old W32 API.. if not, you have no business bashing frameworks (especially in the light that most Windows apps use one and you just don't notice).
And a little looking around hasn't hurt anybody yet.. it took me all of 5 seconds to find Bencos (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=119754)It's Freepascal based - while I'm not familiar with the language, it most certainly won't require the .NET framework.

Imagine a bittorrent client more efficient than uTorrent. Well, it exists! And guess what, it's written in C# using the .NET framework. Also works on linux, macos and PDA's. Don't bash the framework, bash the programmer.
In other words, why not use the .NET framework.

what??... I can't believe you - uTorrent is such a nice piece of software.
Please share the name of "ur dotNET client"

mike18xx: I have good news for you. I've been working on my own GUI (RipBOT264) for long time. It's written in Delphi (win32) so it does not require .NET. It's almost finished. I have to add gfx and fix some known bugs. I started this project because I needed something simple with only necessary options. Be patient

Ok, so i may have exaggerated slightly ;) In certain circumstances MonoTorrent (www.monotorrent.com) is better than uTorrent, in others uTorrent is better. On average though, they're equally as efficient. The big difference is that uTorrent is unmanaged code, MonoTorrent is fully managed code, i.e. C#.

I looked at your screen shots, very impressive. Are you going to support constant quality (CRF) mode? I did not see it from your screen shots. Plus I am a big Delphi Fan.

At this stage my gui has only three video profiles HQ -> PSP,PS3,PC.
HQ-PC is based on HQ-Slower from Megui but with one small change .Deblocking is set to default values (0,0) instead of -2,-1. I will add support for CRF if you wish. It's not a problem.
Edit: weaver4: I've just added CQ-PSP,PS3,PC profiles. From now on CRF is supported. Time to finish gfx and do something with bugs.
