View Full Version : DVD Recorder and Sky+ Copy Protection?

I have been having trouble recording TV programmes using my DVD recorder, editing them and then burning them to DVD. I will describe the process below:

Using my Philips DVDR 3380 DVD recorder I record a programme from my Sky+ box (satellite PVR). Then I ripped the DVD using IFO mode of DVD Decrypter, edited and created an mpeg using Womble MPG VCR. Then I made and burned the DVD Video using Nero Vision.

The problem I am having is that some of the DVDs that I make from TV programmes have a weird jittery look that happens when there is motion on the screen. At First I thought it was something to do with interlacing and field order, but because it doesn’t happen with every recording I’m wondering if it is some kind of copy protection on certain TV shows. Also the original Recording by the DVDR 3380 plays fine so it's just when I rip, edit and burn a new copy of the recording.

I am hoping someone here will know how I can solve this problem, thanks.

Best if you provide a short clip that shows the jittering problem so people can see what you are talking about.

OK here is a very short clip which should show the problem. NOTE: the jittery motion is NOT visible when played on a computer so put it onto a DVD and watch it on your TV.
Strangely, during the clip the jitter seems to stop briefly in the middle and then start again. No idea why this is.

Please email/PM me for the link to the clip.

That does sound like a field order issue... Load it with DGIndex/DGDecode in AviSynth and step through with Bob() or SeparateFields(). The motion would jump back and forth if the field order is set wrong.
