View Full Version : Resizing in megui

I'm learning a lot of new technology and terms of art here, so if my question doesn't make sense in some way, my apologies! If you are using megui to encode an anamorphic source, is it better (i.e. will you get higher quality encodes) to use the "clever anamorphic encoding" option, or should you resize the video? If the answer is to resize, why is it generally the norm to resize to a horizontal resolution of 640?

By the way, just to double check, to figure out whether a video stream is anamorphic, you need to compare the input DAR to the DAR of the video preview (which is displayed right next to the input DAR) correct?

Many thanks!

More pixels = more detail, assuming you have enough video bitrate. In the real world where you will be changing the resolution but keeping the bitrate the same, the optimum quality point is different for every video.

As for anamorphic, if the DAT doesn't equal the resolution width/height, it's anamorphic :). In other words, non square pixels.
