well, i've been trying to convert this file for a long time, it's a dvd rip. i open it up, use the DivX codec, have it at 720x400, set the file size for 1400MB and start it. except, when i play the video, the quality is total shit. i've got blocking, lots of those dots around the edges. the quality is just pure <<deleted>>. and im wondering how people get pretty good quality with a file size of 700MB (like when you download movies)

Hi!
1) What is the title and region of the DVD?
2) What software/procedures did you use to rip the DVD?
3) When you play the original, commercial DVD, does it exhibit the same problems?
4) When you play the ripped version of the DVD from your hard drive, does it exhibit the same problems?

Try AutoGK and Xvid. Don't use exactly 1400 MB for the output selection, otherwise it will auto-split.

@Speediakal
the quality depends on compressibility test.
But i'm sure you already know that...
keep it between 50 & 80 %, than it's all good m8.
cheers :)

o srry, it's Blood Diamond, but i deleted that and am trying Pirates of the Caribbean 2 now.
@den78, ya, it said it was compressing it at like 24% but like, i don't want it to be like 3-4GB. because everytime, i do the conversion in Vdub, i put in like 1400mb, but it comes out with 3.8GB.

Your movie has a very bad compressibility, so your only choice is to lower the resolution or go for a bigger file.
...But i think you have better chances with 1 pass encode.
cheers
